Hey guys, it’s Amanda. I’m back with another reaction video and this one has been on my to do list for ages so I’m excited to finally watch it, it’s the most iconic british tv moments.
There’s quite a few of these on RU-vid so I just picked one at random, if theres another one you’d like me to do, let me know. Also for anyone that’s new to the channel I choose my reactions based on the recommendations I get from you guys, so make sure you leave any ideas in the comments or head over to my instagram. I usually post reactions on Thursdays and on Sundays I post about my life and experiences living in the UK as an American so if its something youre interested in make sure you subscribe so you dont miss out.

I love the 'subtle' put downs by the experts. We learned today of the very sad passing of the comedic genus Sean Lock - Sean was a stand-up comic and had an amazingly brilliant 'dry' sense of humour. I unfortunately never got to see him perform on stage, but I watched his shows on RU-vid and comedy panel shows like 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. He was truly one of the best and deserves worldwide recognition, especially 'Carrot in a Box'. x

Nice comment, Amanda. Sean Lock was brilliant and will be sadly missed. I never got to see him because he had a minor car accident while driving to the gig I was going to. He was fine but a little shaken up, apparently. A few years ago now. I had no idea he was even poorly so it was a bit of a shock seeing the headlines this evening.

None of these are what I'd call iconic, let alone the MOST iconic. Iconic moments in British tv include Morecambe and Wise with Andre Previn, the end of the final episode of Blakes 7, BBC News interrupting the snooker to bring the nation live coverage of the SAS assault on the Iranian Embassy and so on.

You need to check out Spike in general but that speech... oh yes. Peak Spike would have been Q or, even better, in my opinion, The Goon Show. The Goon Show was mostly on the radio but you'll find loads in podcast form or many on RU-vid. It is no understatement to say that without The Goon Show there would have been no Monty Python or any of the surrealism that followed. Spike Milligan at the top of his game, Peter Sellers before he became a global megastar (and funnier than he was in film), Harry Seacombe who could have been an opera singer but also had the face and body to be a great leading man... on the radio. Just stunning work. Lots of other radio comedies from the time were okay too, Round the Horne had some great bits from Jon Pertwee, for example.

These are querky, rather than iconic tv moments. For iconic TV, I'd expect to see The two Ronnies 'Four Candles' sketch, Only fools and horses 'Chandeliers' and 'Batman and Robin', Faulty Towers with German guests, and Top Gear with Clarkson in a Robin Reliant. See also Blackadder, Absolutely Fabulous, Porridge and Dad's Army.These are some examples of iconic UK TV.

to me, 'iconic' means a moment in TV history that has resonated and is memorable for the right reasons, like when the tv audience watched England win the world cup in 66, or the final scene of Black Adder Goes Fourth, not these moments involving celebrity panels, game shows or wannabe pop stars

@@Frank75288 Nope. Who is that and why should I care? :/ "Iconic" to me means everyone knows about it - it's part of the culture and replayed constantly, even if you never watched the show. You know it for 'that bit'. Everyone knows of the Parrot sketch even if they never watched Monty Python's Flying Circus.
@daviddieudonne7829
@daviddieudonne7829 3 года назад
@@StockportJambo it all depends on what you mean with iconic, I agree. But also on what you mean with everybody. As a Belgian, the England 66 win isn’t iconic, we don’t care. The parrot sketch isn’t well known either. But that’s more an age issue I’m afraid, as monthly python isn’t that known by the youth at least not here. These clips went viral worldwide when they occurred, that doesn’t mean they’re better or funnier and definitely not more iconic for British people, but these are probably better known worldwide, as they’re more recent and were shared on social media. If you ask me, carrot in a box or the four candles sketch are iconic British tv, but that’s for what I’ve seen of British tv.

I think it was John Cleese who identified 1950 to 1980 as a golden period of British comedy. I have included films in this such as Peter Sellers as Inspector Closeau of the Surete, Arthur Haynes and Nicholas Parsons, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, Benny Hill, Terry Thomas, as well as Morecombe and Wise in the Andre Previn sketch, Norman Wisdom in the London Palladium sketch with Bruce Forsythe in the early v1960s plus many others. Also remember John Cleese in the four yorkshireshire men competing with each other with respect to the toughness of their upbringing.

I got what she was trying to do, it should have been obvious to anyone, and while it was a bad audition piece for the show (it shows technical ability, rather than an ability to engage an audience emotionally), it deserved more respect than the sneering faeces in human form gave it.

@@LADYRAEUK I don't know how many of them would work without context. There were moments in the old Robin Of Sherwood series that redefined the way the story was told (most versions since have included a Saracen in the merry men), but they don't work in clip form. The first lesbian kiss in Brookside is historic, the first million pound winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is maybe less memorable than the bits that Chris Tarrant did which were copied worldwide... Drop The Dead Donkey was a remarkable show in that they shot I think up to the day before transmission so the characters in newsroom could make topical references, but how do you explain a joke in a clip that referred to a small story from 25 years ago +? Sadly, what you get with these 'iconic' videos is a lot of car crash clickbait. The best way to react to iconic TV would be to watch a whole episode and then give thoughts about what worked well or not, but editing those is a whole load of faff I'd imagine and much less immediate. With that said, there might be a good set of clips about Damien Day from Drop The Dead Donkey - his running gags were generally about unethical things he did to get a better shot in his news reports. Sadly I've only found isolated scenes rather than a collection of them

For example, the only programme I could even definitely identify on this one was The Chase (I think another was Britain's Got Talent, but that's just a guess as I never watched it). For me, for example, 'Iconic TV moments' brings up the last scene of Blackadder Goes Forth, Morecombe & Wise making breakfast to The Stripper, the final scene of Blake's 7, "Don't tell him, Pike" from Dad's Army, etc.

@@LADYRAEUK but to back you up, these are YOUR iconic moments on TV and not you're keyboard critics who can't sit in front of a camera, or in front of a crowd of their peers and screw up. Now that would be iconic, tear streaming down my cheeks moment.

@@davidpage4005 I agree the piano playing the Blackadder theme like a dirge and the fade to the poppy fields and the sound of the bird chirping brings me to tears as well. Stay strong from an ex engineer.

2007-2009 X-Factor was truly insane. Sadly that Ariel took her own life almost two years ago. There's probably a few compilations still kicking around of that particular era with all the singing cats, well worth a giggle over!

You should do a react vid to British comedy shows. Shows like Inbetweeners, Him and Her, Red Dwarf, The IT Crowd, Peep Show, Spaced, The Royal Family, and The League Of Gentlemen. There are some funny older British comedy shows too like Rising Damp, and Till Death Do Us Part and In Sickness and In Health.

TV’s most iconically cringey moments! The German names for Andy Capp was the best! Anything translated from English to German and comes out as an innuendo cracks me up. Watch a few episodes of “Allo ,Allo” they have great fun making innuendo out of everything.

Perhaps for the next one find iconic moments from classic british tv shows (not reality shows) as there are some fantastic classics out there. The bar scene from only fools and horses comes to mind. (and the batman and robin bit, and.. well, you could probably do an entire one with just only fools and horses but still..)

A great reaction would be to an episode of “Come Outside”. It was an iconic British TV show which was made from 1993-1997 but continued to be aired right up to 2012; so literally educated generations of children. They all follow a similar format, but some Aren’t as interesting as others, might I suggest “Boots” or “toothpaste” or “bread” as these feature interesting industrial processes. Despite being a show for pre-schoolers, you can learn a bit from an episode.

I reckon a good 90% of these funny X-Factor contestants are on the wind up. If you were in front of the judges and genuinely giving it your all and they started laughing and giggling, you'd be thrown off. But they just carry on. They know what they're doing I'm sure of it lol.

Bradley Walsh is amazing and has a great juvenile sense of humour and will laugh so hard, so the people who set questions on The Chase will stick him up at every opportunity. So infectious once he gets going. I'd recommend you check out a compilation of Bradley Walsh losing it on The Chase.
