By wearing a 'blue ADIDAS' you'll blend right in; no one would suspect you being a foreigner! Anyways, you should always buy one size larger of anything in Serbia as you are going to gain some weight there by eating the tastiest food on the planet. I've visited 13 different countries and Serbian food 'takes the cake', so to speak - the best by far!

Keep it up :) Ćele kula (skull tower) is also nice representation of Serbian mentality, or Serbian "Inat" (doing sth out of spite - "I'll show you" mentality).. Purpose of Skull tower was for Ottomans to show Serbian resistance what will happen if they keep resisting. And as you can see, Serbs made monument out of it, out of spite. You want us to be afraid, we'll celebrate it instead, and we'll never forget.. :)

@danicao.6778 10 месяцев назад
@@kinggidorah6910In Serbian language "ljepo" is "lepo"!!! "ljepo" is in Bosnian or Croatian language!!! These are the small differences, but they are all rooted in the Serbian language!!! These are all words from the Serbian language so they appropriated them later!!! Actually Croats are Serbs who were baptized by the Vatican and Bosnians are Serbs who were forcibly converted to Turks by the Ottomans!!! It was called throughout history "danak u krvi" on English translation "tribute in blood"!!! Ottoman soldiers entered in Serbian houses and captured Serbian children for the military service and so for the whole 500 years slavery!!! And thus artificial nations were created to the detriment of Serbian people which proved throughout to 20th century!!!
@knin1975
@knin1975 10 месяцев назад
What is also interesting is that not long before the Ottomans were forced out of Nis, they wanted to tear the tower down as if it did not really ever exist. Serbs decided otherwise, kept the tower and got three things out of it: 1. Remember what Serbs went through during hundreds of years under Ottoman rule. 2. Price that Serbs paid for resisting Ottoman rule and that it never happens again. 3. As you mentioned, there is always that "inat" issue, which foreigners, even up to present day, will never understand about Serbs and their love for freedom and Orthodox Christianity. I have been to the Skull Tower and would recommend everyone to see it.

@@TravelLordOnLoc The salad was created as a culinary product in the state tourist agency "Balkantourist" in 1955. Despite the fact that the salad's name comes from the westernmost Bulgarian region called Shopluk, it was actually invented in its easternmost region. The salad appeared at the Black Sea coast, in a resort near Varna, called Druzhba. It can be found in one of the first state-approved cookbooks from 1956 (Sbornik recepti 1956, vol. 1, p. 50). Right, we converted another American back to normal, or at least to a gopnik - good deed for today :) @10:20 "Sopska" is not Bulgarian, as Sops are Serbs, not Bulgarians, used to live before 1912 Berlin congress as far as east of Sophia. Shops = Serbs, Bulgars, east of Sophia = Turks, Asia.... @12:20 It actually worked very well, as about each year since 1903, there were uprisings in Serbia against Turks, and later joined by Greeks and Slavic Bulgars, leading to finally getting them off Europe. It is very cool that you visited Nis, place where Constantine the Great was born, who founded Constantinople (nobo0dy in Serbia calls it istambul) and brought Christendom into Europe . Yeah, there is also concentration camp memorial - Hello EU German that owe us lives 100:1 in war crimes in blood, and zillions in damages never paid (in 1999 NATO bombed Nis with carped cluster bombing, still visible on facades) . But also, I am happy that Serbian children are playing there cheerfully above bones dropped to ensure them such future. I always like to visit Nis, and cities, places and villages along Nisava river (that's how Nis got name long into B.C.). People usually think that Europe is Paris. London, Rome ... 17 Roman emperors come from today's are of Serbia, 21 in older boundaries. Nis is what Europe was, is and will be. EU is not Europe. When Nis was around, Doggerland still exiisted.

This armed uprising of the population in the Western Regions began in the context of the Russo-Turkish War of 1806, and rebellious sentiment quickly began to escalate everywhere. The flame of disobedience ignited in the souls of Bulgarians and Serbs the desire for freedom and led to the outbreak of a mass anti-Turkish struggle in the Belgrade Sanjak, Niško and Pirotsko. At that time, the resistance against the common enemy, personified by the High Porte, put in the background any contradictions between the Bulgarian and Serbian insurgents, who readily participated in mixed detachments and platoons and fought side by side against their oppressors. The rebellion was supported by many Bulgarians from Pomoravie and Vidin. To such an extent that the uprising can be called Serbian-Bulgarian (at that time Bulgarians lived even in the Belgrade Pashalak itself). Prominent names such as Colonels Kondo, Dragan Papazoglu, Kiro Bekyarski, Uzun Mirko, the famous Hajduk Velko participated, and the negotiations for peace with the "High Porte" were led by the Bulgarian Petar Ichko. In the course of the Russo-Turkish war of 1806-1812, the voivodes of the small region of Porečie, populated mostly by Bulgarians, Petar Dobryanets and Milenko Stajkovic, sought help from the Russians in order to build a Bulgarian principality there. Niš, which preserved its Bulgarian ethnic character during the centuries of Ottoman rule, became the center of the insurgent activity of the local Bulgarian population, which is evidenced by the number of titles in the Serbian periodical press at the time - "Ustanak u Bugarskoi" (Uprising in Bulgaria). In a short time, the rebel commander Stefan Sindjelic managed to gather about 3,000 people among the population of Niško, with whom he opposed the Ottoman power in the region. Soon, other Bulgarian and Serbian combat units moved into this theater of combat, whose final goal was the capture of the Niš fortress. The well-fortified Turkish garrison in the city, however, successfully defended itself against the rebel attacks and waited for the engagement of new military forces sent from the High Porte to launch a counterattack against the rebel positions. This happened in the spring of 1809, when only two months after the outbreak of insubordination in Nishko, 30,000 Ottoman troops commanded by Hurshid Pasha arrived on the scene..... According to the notes of surviving rebels, and of the Turkish authorities themselves, Sindjelic sacrificed himself and the still fighting Bulgarian and Serbian fighters by blowing up the gunpowder, where the insurgents' ammunition stocks were stored, with a pistol shot..... In a prominent place in the city, Khurshid Pasha ordered the construction of a conical masonry tower, in the walls of which he used the skulls of the fallen insurgents as the main building blocks. It should have reminded of the fate of those who took up arms against the Turkish authorities.
@EpizodBG
@EpizodBG 10 месяцев назад
The best description of it by an impartial observer could be obtained from the travelogue of the French poet and traveler Alphonse de Lamartine. His words immediately take us back to 1830, when de Lamartine was near Nis: "I saw a great tower rising in the midst of the city, white as marble...When I raised my eyes to examine the monument I found to my astonishment that the walls, which I thought were covered with marble, were built of long straight lines of human skulls. Whitened by the rains and the sun these skulls were cemented together in a structure that testified to the Turkish triumph of a great battle that had been fought here. Now near the tower I could see that some of the skulls still had remnants of hair that trembled and shed with every breath of wind. The fresh mountain-side breeze passed through the open mouths of the skulls and drew from them mournful sepulchral sighs. My heart wept that day for those brave men whose severed heads should become the cornerstone of a monument symbolizing the struggle for freedom." Over the following decades, the Tower of Skulls released some of the inhabitants of its walls to their eternal rest. Bulgarian residents of Nis, believing they could recognize the skulls of their fallen husbands, brothers, fathers and grandfathers, plucked some of the skulls from the dead cement embrace of the tower and buried them in local cemeteries. After the Russo-Turkish War of 1878, which brought freedom to Bulgaria, Nis and its inhabitants entered the territorial framework of the Kingdom of Serbia. The Serbs quickly "adopted" the monument and stopped remembering their own newspaper headlines about the "Uprising in Bulgaria".
