A Majestic funeral for our beloved Queen Elizabeth ll ❤

This was in the pipeline for 20 years maybe longer under the code name London Bridge and has been rehearsed to the enth degree and has evolved over time.The sheer number of agencies involved alone is mind blowing, the sheer number of heads of state in attendance, prime ministers, presidents, leaders from all corners of the globe and can you imagine what it takes to just close a city down anywhere in the world? It’s incredible. And for those outside of the UK the roots between the Sovereign and the military are very deep, historically so and in the case of HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II, her father was in the military as was she, her husband the late Prince Phillip along with her own children. And, when somebody in the UK joins the military the oath they take is to the Sovereign, not the State.The Sovereign br it King or Queen is Commander In Chief. Notice of the Queen’s death was given to the new Prime Minister (appointed by HM the Queen just 2 days earlier) by telephone with the message “London Bridge has fallen”.

I disagree. If you watch the intricacies of the Thai or Saudi monarchy the British are fairly straightforward. If you watch king George's funeral you would have seen more robes, velvet and many many more flowers. The queen always preferred the understatement. It's only just that the world gets to see this stuff, other monarchies less so.

The most dignified and impressive Military and State funerals in the world take place in the United Kingdom and Thailand from what I have seen.

The Coffin was estimated at around 700 pounds, More than QUARTER OF A TONNE!!!

It has been estimated that it would weigh between 250kg and 317kg. Eight military bearers have been selected to carry the Queen's coffin . After the Service at Westminster Abbey they had to drive in cars and a hearse to Windsor. 21.7 miles. You could look at it on You-Tube The whole services are on there.

The most impressive feat of the bearer party was getting the coffin up the many steep steps leading to the west door of St George's Chapel at Windsor. It is not surprising they had to make several stops on the way up. I was sure the crown jewels would fall off but they seem to have been secured firmly. The cushion for the crown was left on the coffin after the jewels had been removed and placed on the altar. Is the cushion buried with the Queen?

@@MrBulky992 it was bolted onto the coffin, everything left on the coffin after it's lowered into the vault is removed prior to burial.

They are in fact 'ordinary' soldiers in that they are 'of the line' with their duties encompassing those ceremonial duties when called upon to do so.

l love the sound of the bag pipes they were fantastic.

I'm a Kiwi, I love how the Brits do pomp and ceremony, no one does it better, yous should be proud of the send off you gave to Her Majesty, it's what she deserved for a lifetime of service. My Cousin's son was one of the New Zealand Soldiers marching with the Australians and Canadians as part of the Commonwealth contingent.

I read somewhere there were two coffins one inside the other apart from being lead sealed. All the forces were brilliant, they obviously loved & respected their wonderful Queen, who knew all about the military, drills everything, she was a mass of knowledge. I miss her very much, that mother of the nation thing. A big loss to a lot of the world. God save the KING, may he be guided well by God’s counsel.

I served 24 years, and was too immensely proud of our brothers and sisters serving who did a truly magnificent job of sending our late sovereign on her way. I only managed to watch in Hyde park such was the volume of people. I wept on more than one occasion completely unabashed.

I never served BUT was in the air cadets in the late 80s and applied to go into the RAF after leaving school ...didn't get into the trade I wanted to go in and they offered me a steward job which I turned down ...TBH it's the ONLY regret in my life I ever had ....BUT also back then (i was only 16 /17) if i had taken the queens shilling i would prob been court marshaled/discharged as turned out I was gay lol this was way before they changed to rules and became a more inclusive military BUT i still stand by the service i had in the Air cadets (still have my book / service record) and even though i was a cadet we still swore an oath to queen and country!

I haven't heard that many vile comments about the Queen from America. The coverage for the most part has been full of admiration and praise. Unless you count the usual suspects at MSNBC and CNN, but they can be trusted to take the wrong view on any subject.

I am from British ancestry, and was so proud to see this, even though I am Australian, Britain will,always be my motherland. Our family are descended from the Plantagenets so there is a very strong bond with Britain which I have felt all of my life, before I knew of the connection. It’s in my soul, Britain and Australia.

Most of us don't really give a shit though. The Queen was a good public servant, who lived to a very respectable age, in palatial surroundings. But I didn't know her. And ultimately taxpayers paid for this funeral, in a cost of living crisis, even with the millions the royal family have - and my family can't even afford a headstone for my grandad.

The bit that got me was the lone piper walking slowly down the passage and out of the door at the end of the service at Windsor. So full of symbolism.

The piper ,the sound of the bag pipes always gets me, she loved the pipes. It was a very heart felt feeling, so emotive.

The coffin as you say is heavy and weighs around 500kg or half a metric tonne.

I believe the challenge doesn't compare with the sheer weight of Winston Churchill's coffin which shocked the pall bearers who nearly dropped him trying to climb the stairs of St Pauls

That started at Queen Victoria's funeral when the horses pulling the gun carriage spooked and were replaced by the Naval ratings and has been kept as a tradition ever since.

There’s no doubt that the English Monarchy have the keys to the 4th or 5th most powerful military machine on Earth but I and many more become confused when they and the Anglican Church appear to believe they have equal power or some higher divine right towards God over lesser countries or peoples of this planet. Not all the Navy ratings are so new - a Navy veteran I work with pointed out some have 4 long service badges making it 12+ years for them

I saw quite a few tweets by proud relatives, all alluding to their youth (mind you, everyone is young to me), and some could count on their fingers the months since they joined up. VERY MUCH SO. please try to watch the final chapter, it is in St, George's Chaple at Windsor, The King, his sister Princess Anne, his brother's Andrew and Edward then the Queen's two grandsons, William, The Prince of Wales, and Harry, then the Princess Royal's son (Anne), and the cousins and so on are WALKING behind the hearse bearing the Casket -- from West Minister Abbey along the road to Windsor Castle (1000 years old) and up the stairs to St. George's Chapel and the final Public Service. JOEL, did you know there had been a FIRST SERVICE in St Giles, in Edinburgh, Scotland, after the Quenn was Laying In State in Balmoral, in Holyrood House, then Transported to Westminster Hall Parliamentary Buildings in London prior to the march, and Service at West Minister Abbey. (I think it is about 8 hours, but facinating and quite lovely - take kleenex, I cried all over again when I saw the Queen's CORGIES, and Pony waiting for her to arrive.

@@JustMe-ks8qc I actually know how they are picked, when you joined a ship/station/air base as a trainee you are regarded as a 'phase 2' (in training, phase 1 being in HMS Raleigh for basic training) and you are automatically put onto OP Bridges (queen was london bridge) and they remain on it until they pass out of phase 2 training and are no longer regarded as a trainee. The new batch of trainees will fill up the spots left behind automatically, meaning you can never run out of ratings for it if a monarch dies. The guys with the good conduct chevrone patches denote 4 years each, so the guy with three had 12+ years in, a guy with 2 chevrones is 8+ years - the reason those guys are on it is because they will get pinged as leading hands (supervisors) to represent their ship/station/air base, along with the senior rates and officers. I myself was on OP Bridges as a trainee, but during that 6 month period no-one died, and I was automatically taken off of it.

I'm trying to figure out the logistics of it all in my head, but I can't get past how they would no doubt be based on different ships, likely in different parts of the world. I get that marching is fairly standard, but there was so much more to it than that.

I've always had great respect for Her Majesty and the monarchy (with a couple of exceptions) but this hit all my family harder than I thought it would.
