Jack and Victor live directly next to each other. Victor's door is on the northern wall, if you will. Jack's is on the east. Isa lives on the west. There's nobody between then, although some liberties were probably taken regarding the layout of their houses themselves. It's unlikely that their living rooms are actually on the inner edge of the home next to each other. As far as I remember, the bathroom and bedroom doors face each other, both of which are right next to the front door (as seen in episode 1 of season 1 when Jack views the apartment from my memory).

Yeah the layout doesn’t make sense because usually when you enter Victors flat you turn to the left to head to the living room/kitchen so his flat is on Isa’s side of the building.

Some ones lived in a tower block, I have as well, found myself often trying to work out how 6 residences, four two bedrooms and two one bedroom on each floor fit and mirror each other.

@@alimetodista3459 Yep, I lived in the Red Road Flats in Glasgow for 16 years (Jack mentions them during the Hoaliday episode when they go to Canada). Only moved from there because they were being demolished. Each of those buildings had 4 homes on each floor. The tall thin ones (3-bedroom homes) didn't have ANY of the houses connected, they were separated by the elevator shaft on one side and a staircase on the other The wide blocks (2-bedroom homes) did indeed have one neighbour closely ajoined

I love that you've ended up like us locals Al, by that I mean it's noticeable that yer in deep now and like us you've started to forget that they're characters in a show. The writings just that good, so much so that ye end up analysing plots based on their behavioural norms. It really is a joy tae be able tae see the show again and doubly so through your eyes. Wonderful reaction. I don't know why the music Boabby put on when Jack and Victor came in was different, though. On the episode, it's originally ABBA's 'Dancing Queen'. Wonder who changed it, dancing queen fits much better for that joke. And the music for when Margaret comes in to discover Winston high is supposed to be Bob Marley's 'Jammin', which he's singing along to, and is why he said "I'm in my jimmies, jammin'"

Probably changed to reduce royalty payments, or avoid them completely if it's just library music. They did a similar substitution in the Wireless episode.

Great reaction as always :) The original broadcast of Hatch had Dancing Queen as the pub scene music, which is better, but this was good too :) Be careful though as Netflix has removed some episodes so you might miss out :(

Double episode after work. Thanks!! Love both of these. Can't wait until next series. Yeah the camera work changes. I did love the zoom in this one though. I think they were just moving with the times editing wise. The later ones take a bit of getting used to as it's filmed in higher def and their make up looks a bit strange at first but once it's Still Game that's all that matters I guess 😎 cheers man.

In the UK BBC One launched in 1936, ITV ("Channel 3") in 1955, BBC Two in 1964, Channel 4 in 1982 and Channel 5 in 1997. Those were the only free channels available unless you paid for cable/satellite. My parents didn't have a lot of spare cash when I was growing up so we didn't get Sky (what Jack got) until I started working and paid for the Sky subscription. Can you imagine kids these days living with only five TV channels, no internet/RU-vid, nothing on demand via Netflix etc.? They don't know how good they've got it!

Grew up in the 90s and my parents didn't have much either, grew up with "cooncil telly", and tbh there was more on TV then than there is now as the competition was tighter, and the big three got the biggest viewing figures. Now you just end up scrolling for half an hour and give in because theres nothing on but reality TV or some police drama.

I've noticed there are US viewer guides on here, showing how they can pick up local channels for free via their analogue TV ariel. Exactly how Freeview is picked up. So it would seem that before Netflix etc took off, that a great majority of US viewers for a few decades were duped into watching expensive cable TV as standard when it wasn't always necessary

I was seven when Channel 4 launched and I remember it being so exciting, rushing home from school and my Dad was tuning it in and then watching Countdown…which had commercial breaks with next to no adverts.

you are right the flats do not meet with each other neither do the rooms as jacks straight ahead with bedroom to the left and bathroom to the right and living room straight ahead with kitchen as you go in his mate as you go in door you have bathroom then turn left then bedroom then onto living room and kitchen to the left the bbc mished mashed it tthe rooms are set in a studio while flat doors and isa is also studio but with some sets are actual flats.

Brilliant, I knew you being American was going to comment on the lack of buds on the plant 😂, back then in this country anyone who smoked, 95% were smoking "coonsil" (counsel estate low grade hash), only people with basic knowledge of cannabis smoked bud, the propaganda here was that effective and believe it or not, hash smokers did actually think you just smoke the leaves, it's almost as if they put it in the episode like that. Hope this makes sense, it was a cultural difference I thought you'd like to know. It's very different now, coonsil is gone and everyone smokes bud or eats edibles, thanks to what happened in America. We get some cali weed and edibles here every know and then. Star dawg is the dominant strain here.

A lot of editing changes since Netflix took the show . For instance when isa comes into the pub for fancy dress she sings the lyrics for Madonna's Vogue, but on Netflix she only says Vogue. Largely down to copyright. In the hospital radio episode the last song was Rose-marie which offended the patients wife. However on Netflix there were no lyrics and the song had changed. Some things that have been re-edited don't have the same effect. Still good but not as intended. Great vids. Keep up the good work

It'll be copyright issues. Those songs were likely licensed by BBC for when the show was aired in the UK. I think Netflix would have had to pay to keep those songs in the episode

Great video going forward i would watch still game on RU-vid or something else because on Netflix they edit some scenes and change some of the music and i think some episodes are missing from Netflix but if you are ok with watching still game on Netflix that is fine.

They were never too good with continuity in Still Game. The ending of the second episode here makes no sense when you watch the Christmas/New Year episode where they are trapped in an elevator.

The zoom on the hatch episode was done in reference to Jaws, as its the same effect used when the shark is spotted, as a call back to jack and victor talking about jaws earlier in the episode.. again as in the episode where they were hospital dj's, that episode was again let down by replacement music (as seen in netflix & some of the dvd releases) as it loses the impact on some of the jokes, in 5his case being that when boaby is dancing in the bar, in the original he is playing dancing queen by abba, a famous gay anthem, only to be replaced with what resembled a 1970s porno theme. Its all to do with BBC being too tight to pay out for music licensing on anything other than the original broadcast. If you watch these reworked releases there are a lot of little bits changed or removed here or there, which, although doesnt totally spoil it, it can make those moments affected not as funny as intended. I think if you do end up having to do the later series as patreon, it might be worth you doing a collab on some of them with Squirrel as i know hes been wanting to find a way to do them for over a year now, and i know you guys share a lot of the same fan base, and support each other, so that would be something to look forward to!

24:42 The original song they used in the Clansman was ABBA's Dancing Queen, another change that doesn't work because they had to replace the music Also 29:50 is meant to be Bob Marley's Jamming, hence the In my jimmies, Jamming joke The storyline with closing the Clansman down is real IRL, the original location they used was being pulled down to make room for new houses, so they moved the location and wrote it into the story

I noticed you were a bit overwhelmed by the sheer craziness and fast pacing in some British comedy, and yes, there is a lot to unpack. But if you want to stay with your own generation you will find a lot less craziness, and that is perhaps more your style, but being a consumer in British comedy for 40 years I can recommend the comic strip. The writers went on to such comedies as blackadder and many more. The main writer you should note is Ben Elton. He basically wrote the best stuff for almost 30 years, not by himself, of course, but he is the key to much of the funniest stuff.

@thatcatboab absolutely, and they were actually ahead of spinal tap with 5-6 months before they were a thing. But I'll never forget the line "Vim Fuego, what kind of name is that?" And they instantly erupted in fighting 🤣
