Edmontonian here. Lots was watched out of context. For example, the legislature Grounds are there because Edmonton is the capital of Alberta. The Royal Albert Museum is called that because it is named after our British heritage. Tyler made the comment that the Museum has lots of stuff. Even if it isn’t local. It’s all local - Yes Tyler, we have dinosaurs here. Shall we blow his mind and tell him about Drumheller? Most of those places are outside Edmonton and would never be considered “Edmonton.” Edmonton is known for as the city of Festivals and there are festivals of some sort happening almost back to back throughout the summer. The River runs THROUGH the city - through the downtown area where the River is surrounded by the largest contiguous green space in North America (even larger than Central Park Tyler). This video didn’t do Edmonton justice and quite a few of the clips looked like stock photos.

Albertosaurus and Edmontosaurus are the most iconic name wise, but yeah, between 60-70 different kinds of Dinos have been found in Alberta, and give or take 350 good quality skeletons (complete or near complete).

Actually, the museum is called the "Royal" Alberta Museum because Queen Elizabeth II gave it the royal designation when she visited here in 2005. It used to just be called the Provincial Museum of Alberta.

Im from Edmonton and so much was missing from here. Our river valley is one of the largest metropolitan parks in the world which is 1000 times bigger than central park in Newyork and it goes right through the entire city. West Edmonton mall is a town within a town. People live there and never have to leave. West Edmonton Mall was the largest mall in the world for many years till Dubai started building all their mega projects. The mall has a mock ocean full of sharks and tropical fish, you can take a submarine ride in the ocean and in the middle of the water is a 1700's style ship with a restaurant on it. The movie theater there has a giant robotic dragon that breaths actual fire and on the roof of the mall is a golf course. Fort Edmonton park is in Edmonton. They have old school playgrounds where your kids will 100% get injured..... for their own good. Downtown Edmotnon has pedways that connect all of downtown, in the winter you never have to walk around in the frozen cold streets, you can stay indoors, even shop in an open farmers market all winter long. We have Heritage days where every culture on earth opens little shops and food stands where you can taste food from all over the world and watch cultural displays of dancing and music. The river valley is so huge, you can go camping and feel like your not in a city, go fishing, go on a boat ride, go hiking for days... all without having to leave the city. Just north of Edmonton is a city attached to Edmonton called St Albert which has been considered numerous times to be the absolute best place to live on Earth. North of Edmonton are small towns who have a night sky policy so they turn off all the lights at night and you can see the night sky, the whole galaxy picture perfectly clear. Im blessed to be born in such a place.

More on west edmonton mall: -There’s a literal lake with a life sized pirate ship where events can take place, paddle boats can be ridden, and many years ago there were submarines that toured under the lake -Bourbon street now isn’t as cool as it used to be, it used to genuinely looks like you were walking down a new Orleans street during mardi gras, with statues, music, and themed fronts on all the resturants. They’ve modernized it now, and while it looks nice it is nothing compared to what it once was :( -Galaxyland (the theme park) has recently gone through rebranding. It used to be this really cool space themed park, it was really unique. It was bought by hasbro and now all rides and attractions are based around hasbro IP. The “triple loop roller coaster” that the narrator mentioned has been removed (RIP Mindbender) but the park is still really cool. -The aquarium is huge and offers sea lion shows outside of it :) -The movie theatre is another thing that got less cool with time unfortunately. It used to have a giant fire breathing dragon up in the ceiling (yes, it actually breathed fire and it was the coolest thing). There were a bunch of large statues of characters like Yoda, Batman, King Kong, and a couple more I can’t remember anymore. There were also a bunch of original characters around that as you walked through the theatre would tell a comprehensive story. -The mall has the largest lego store in Canada -More big attractions in the mall include: Go Karts, a Gun Range, Mini golf(2 separate courses!), Bowling, at least 4 large arcades, a VR arcade, and an escape room.
@Badger-fe1wk
@Badger-fe1wk День назад
They also have a nice casino for 18+ visitors and the hotel has themed rooms with lots of variation and although I haven’t seen them in a bit you could end up be walking the main part of the mall and end up right beside a LITERAL PENGUIN

Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, visited Edmonton during the Alberta Centennial Celebrations in 2005 and gave the Provincial Museum of Alberta its “Royal” designation. Ever since it has been known as the Royal Alberta Museum. On that same visit the freeway between Edmonton & Calgary (AB Hwy 2) was renamed “Queen Elizabeth II Highway” … known colloquially as the QE2! Another museum in Alberta had received the Royal treatment back in 1990 when the Queen of Canada gave the impressive dinosaur museum in Drumheller her nod of approval with this moniker: Royal Tyrell Museum Of Palaeontology.

Ukrainian culture is HUGE on the Canadian Prairies, especially in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta! A wave of Ukrainian immigrants came here in the late 1800s and early 1900s and they adapted easily as the land reminded them of home. And across the street is the Pyrogy Park Restaurant, which serves Chinese food, because there's a Chinese restaurant in every Albertan town.

In which state do you live, Tyler? How much of your own country have you experienced. I chuckle when I hear you say “Americans do/don’t say/do this.” I live in Western Canada but have visited 9 of the 10 provinces and I’ve also traveled many of the mid and western states and know that there are huge variations. Your reaction to Canadian snow is an example. I would guess that you haven’t visited many of your northern states in winter, if at all. Still, I have and do appreciate learning more about (not “about”!) my own country through it.

"K Days" was called "Klondike Days" when I was a kid; it is really just a big fair. Reynolds museum is great, but it is not in Edmonton . . . and the narrator completely butchered the pronunciation of Wetaskiwin. The Ukrainian village is also not in Edmonton, but near Vegreville. There was a lot of immigration from Eastern Europe, especially Ukraine. This was an effort to "fill up" the Prairies in an effort to keep the Americans from moving in, and there weren't enough British people willing to immigrate. The huge statue is Kyiv . . . I don't really know why they included that other than to make a Ukrainian connection.

Just a carnival with lots of food. - Second is pronounced 'Weh-Tass-Ka-Win. a small town with an aviation museum and car dealerships. -Art Gallery and Museum and World renowned Music Hall (Winspear Center) all within a block of each other. -Most Canadian provinces have similar legislature buildings. Edmonton's was built in 1913. The Original 'Fort-Edmonton' was there prior to it's construction. -The view of the North Saskatchewan river is NOT that from the legislature. it spans 1,287km (about 800 miles) From the mountains to the prairies. It runs directly through the city. YOU were pronouncing it Properly! -Edmonton is home to various Pyramids, One at West-Edmonton Mall and these in the River valley, Beautiful display of flowers and plants. 4 Different environments in ONE place. They hold date nights there, Great first date idea. -The Fort Edmonton there was built later, Not the original. It IS a spot you can visit and the staff dress like it's the 1800's. Can get old school candy there too. They recently built an old-timey amusement park. -Ukrainian village is similar to Fort Edmonton, But based around the culture and work ethic Ukrainians Brought to Alberta. A Lot of walking but they have a Horse Carriage as well. There were a LOT of Ukrainian immigrants here since the 1800's. YES, they wear costumes there. East of Edmonton 20 min. That photo with statue is from KIEV, Not Edmonton. -Elk Island Park IS Beautiful. So many Bison and rare birds. You can Camp there and they even have TeePee options. It's one of few 'BLACKOUT' zones,, void of all city light. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS AT NATIONAL PARKS -They are showing the WRONG buffalo in the one scene, those are African water buffalo. -Edmonton and Alberta were home to many dinosaurs. South of Edmonton, Drumheller is an AMAZING dinosaur museum where they are STILL discovering bones. -No, the Mall is ok for tourists but NOT the top of the list.;You should have seen it when they still had the submarines there. Edmonton is known as the Festival City, Food festivals, Music festivals, Theatre festivals... Great theatre downtown (near museum), Music scene is Great (checkout STELLAFOX). It's so fun to see a video about my city! Added fun things: Edmonton is known as the Festival City. I'd recommend Taste of Edmonton (around the same time as K-Days) and Heritage Days (first weekend of August). Whyte Ave is the hub for restaurants, pubs, bars, and arts in general. Along that line of thought would be the University of Alberta campus (the arts building is beautiful) and the Rutherford house museum Some little notes nobody asked for: K-Days was originally Klondike Days - had a full wild west town set up along with the gold panning. It's a lot of fun. Northlands (where this is held) always has a bunch of vendors and games set up. I look forward to it every year. If you ever get the chance, I definitely recommend coming to our fine city. Wetaskiwin (not pronounced properly at all - think Weh-task-win) I would not consider part of Edmonton.. but Reynold's is still a cool place to visit and is close enough if you're interested in that sort of stuff. Fort Edmonton Park is, in fact, within the city. It's on the south bank of the river which separates south Edmonton from downtown.

Hello from Edmonton! 3:00 - Yes, "KDays" was originally "Klondike Days" (referencing the Klondike Gold Rush) and was briefly named "Capital Ex" for a few years (as in, an expo in the capital). I am probably the only Edmontonian that actually liked that name, but I can understand it being disliked because it lacked a real theme. There was a poll for what to change it to, and the vote changed it to "KDays", which is what people referred to it as anyway. Officially, the "K" doesn't stand for anything (so it's actually just as themeless as "Capital Ex"), but some people continue to keep the Klondike theme going by still dressing up in period clothing. 21:40 - I don't think that multi-level shot is of West Edmonton Mall, the video is referencing popular destinations around the world. 22:14 - No, that street isn't in the mall, the video was just saying that Bourbon St. (or "BRBN St.", as it's known now) is supposed to be like that street in New Orleans.

@JonLeung1
@JonLeung1 16 дней назад
@@jessica19141 Not quite. It was "Klondike Days" from 1964-2005. Then after people didn't like "Capital Ex", Northlands had a poll for six names, and "K-Days" was chosen (and according to their web site, is now "KDays" without a hyphen, apparently). They said at the time that the "K" doesn't NECESSARILY stand for "Klondike". Some hold on to the theme, and that's fine, but I can't find any OFFICIAL acknowledgement of the Klondike theme. If it was meant to be so, they would just change it back to "Klondike Days", but, no, it's just "KDays". That's it. It's like how "DVD" and "SATs" don't OFFICIALLY stand for anything anymore, even IF they did at one point.

As a former Edmontonian I can officially say that we do not consider Reynolds to be part of Edmonton. and as for Kdays, it used to be called Klondike days and refers to Klondike, Yukon and it was celebrating the gold rush in Klondike Yukon in 1896. The museum is actually in Edmonton, when something is called royal it generally means it's been sponsored by or opened or named after the Royal family. As for the mall is very similar to your mall of America and in fact it was built by the same company, Triple five corp.

Most cities are built on Rivers or Lakes. The North Saskatchewan River starts in the Columbia Icefields - 6 western & northern rivers are fed by Fed by those quickly disappearing glaciers! Water sources in the west of Canada which provide water for many Western cities & towns are threatened by climate change just as they are shrinking in the U.S. West. If you visit the Icefields you can SEE that the Terminal Moraines (pile of rubble that marked the furthest extents of the lobes of ice) has been receding drastically over the centuries. Tourists who want to walk on the Glaciers of Icefields have to take a BUS ride from the furthest Terminal Moraine to the current edge of the Icefields - you can see that the glacier could soon recede up & over the mountain divide between Alberta & BC and some great rivers like the North & South Saskatchewan & Athabaskan Rivers will no longer be fed by their glacial origin.

The town mentioned for the Reynolds museum is pronounced "wet ask a win." The emphasis on western Canadian art means art by people and natives of the western Canadian cultures. Edmonton is the Capitol city of Alberta. The North Saskatchewan River runs directly through the city just like the river that runs through Chicago. You pronounce Saskatchewan like the guy in your video said "Sas katch a win" The tram runs outside the park and across the river. Edmonton is HUGE. There is an enormous Ukrainian group of immigrants in Western Canada. Everything you see in the video is within the Edmonton city limits and rural area. Bison farms are littered throughout Alberta. The Royal Alberta museum is commissioned by the royal family. Alberta is VERY known for their fossils, look up Royal Tyrrell Museum. The West Edmonton Mall is the main attraction of Edmonton, it has a water park, a theme park, two mini golf courses, a driving range, sea lions, a life sized pirate ship, and more. You MUST visit it.

A few things to note about Edmonton: * The North Saskatchewan River cuts Edmonton in two, in a bunch of bends, in a southwest to northeast direction. Calgary of course has the South Saskatchewan River. These two rivers head from the Rocky mountains to the flatlands of Saskatchewan and Manitoba and have the major cities in both provinces on them as well as many smaller towns. * The Hudson's Bay Company was the major Victorian/Elizabethan era trading house in Canada from about the early 1700s to the mid 1900s specializing in furs. The trading house became a department store and then disappeared in the late 1900s as the anti-fur-trade movement grew and the company, like most British things, eventually succumbed to being hideously outdated. Edmonton was also heavily influenced by the Klondike Gold Rush, hence Klondike Days, now K-Days. Of course nowadays if you want to pan for gold you'd need your tetanus and other shots, and to be very patient since you'd probably only get a few ounces of gold if you panned the entire 1000 square mile area down to about 10 feet. * Fort Edmonton is the original name of the military base that was created several hundred years ago, to guard and police this chunk of western Canada, before it had cities. Fort Edmonton had the usual riflemen, cavalry, and artillery common for the time, just like in the US/Mexican war and the US civil war. * Around 1900 some politicians in Ottawa decided that Canada didn't have enough people "out West" and so basically told entire countries such as Ukraine "if you come you will receive free land to farm on". * In 1904, Edmonton became a city, and then became the capital of the newly created Province of Alberta in 1905. * Currently, Edmonton itself is about 900k people with a nice ring road about 50 miles in diameter. There are suburbs of tens or hundreds of thousands to the east, southeast, northeast, northwest, and west. Calgary is a bigger city with a smaller suburbia, while Edmonton is a smaller city with a large and disorganized suburbia. Yes, coming "in" to Edmonton by plane you are still half an hour south of city limits, so you can either go to Edmonton or to the vehicle museum in Wetaskiwin in about the same amount of time. The distance from the city center to the airport has numbed Edmontonians to "local area" travel times under 1 hour. * It didn't mention Rabbit Hills Ski Area, that the central river valley area is all park land with bike/walk trails, Telus World of Science (science park), Heritage Days (food/culture festival with tents featuring over 100 countries), and so on. And, yes, Tyler, Edmonton was a tropical rainforest / swamp in the age of the dinosaurs so we have several archaeological excavations with plenty of fossils plus a thriving oil industry. Think of us as "Texas with Snow". Just don't forget to plug in your cow during winter, otherwise it won't start. If you like the Ukrainian Heritage Village, you can go to Vegreville with its giant Ukrainian Easter egg statue. Btw, the religion in the Slavic areas is Orthodox, which didn't stop doing church art after the Renaissance ended, so, yes, Ukrainian churches would contain paintings, frescoes, statues, icons, and so on.

While Edmonton is a 6 hour drive from where I live I do love visiting the place. A lot of bands will go there to play so that’s one thing to do. I personally like going to the smaller venues like The Starlite Room. Brings you to a whole new area of Edmonton that’s not where the mall is. There’s a whole different environment to the city if you go out of your way to seek it out. It’s beautifully quiet in some areas. The only sounds are the occasional car, a few ravens, some street musician or the sounds of a band playing at a small venue. Also another fun fact about Edmonton that I love. They are switching out the streetlights to no longer have that horrible glare to bring back the night sky to the city. Other cities are gradually doing this but Edmonton was the one to work on getting it done as fast as they could. So one of these days Edmonton will be the city with a night sky.

@@pjimmbojimmbo1990 The only ones of those I have driven recently is Stoney Plain road and 87th avenue. I know that the LRT is going through there, but much of what is blocked now is due to construction, which will eventually end. It is elevated near WEM, so shouldn't take up too much of the street. Maybe they can widen it west of WEM, since there does seem to be some space on each side. I can see being frustrated for people who use the streets that you mentioned. I mostly just stay to my area of the city or take A.H. or Yellowhead out of the city.

Fort Edmonton Park is an old-timey place that requires some planning for your visit. It does cost money, and there are plenty of things to see and do. You can encounter actors portraying old-timey folks and Indigenous people homes. Additionally, you can explore various shops and stores, as well as historical housing. You can also interact with historical interpreters who explain the history of Fort Edmonton Park. However, my experience was when I was five or six years old, so a lot may have changed. I would highly recommend bringing plenty of food, as some of the stores may not sell food but rather only snacks. Also, make sure to bring plenty of water, especially in the summer due to the heat. Air conditioning may not be available (this may have changed), so be prepared to get comfortable using an outhouse (an outdoor bathroom).

Fort Edmonton park actually made me think of Heritage park in Calgary. It's very similar minus the horse drawn carriage. It does have a steam locomotive, tran train, and a old boat. It does show a massive collection of older cars and service vehicles. All if not the majority had been restored. The staff are dressed up in late 1800's - early 1900 styles clothes. It has a cafe with similarly aged style treats. Side note about The Edmonton mall also known as West Ed, I'm not sure if it's still there but it did have an animal attraction like setup on the ground floor in the middle at some point. It had dolphins, then it had seals. The last I heard it was changed to a submarine like ride. It held so many people (not sure how many) and go along a set track/route. There was a cover put over most of it to give that deep sea submursive feel to it. It had all sorts of fish including stingrays and a couple sharks. Weither that is true or not I don't know cause I never seen it. It also at one point had the BEST archaid. All sorts of awesome games including Jurassic park games with the cars, bikes, and even dinosaurs you would actually sit in/on to play and many other games. It must have had at least 100 different games. The movie theater isn't just a movie theater. It's an IMAX theatre with two floors of theaters with at least 20 theaters going in one direction making it around 80 theaters give or take. They have a pretty neat mechanical dragon hanging from the ceiling near the snacks. The head moves from side to side. If you're on the stairs by it you can feel the heat from it when it's mouth opens and it shoots out fire. The fire doesn't hit anything but it's still pretty neat.

Look up Dinosaurs in Alberta and you will find it is the biggest areas for dinosaur discoveries on earth. There is a totally separate museum called the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Worth watching a video on its own. In Edmonton or Calgary, it is easy to take an hour to get across the city at times, so an hour drive is still the surrounding area that encompasses Edmonton.

Edmontonian here as well. This was fun to watch! Though it’s sad it didn’t show what I love the most, our expansive & beautiful river trail system that is considered the largest urban park in all of Canada. You can be in nature in minutes & hike for hours, while still in the city-even though all you see is nature & river all around you. It’s amazing. But I appreciate you wanting to learn about our city! It was a lot of fun watching you discover a bit about it 😁👌🏼🙌🏼

Sadly, three of the 'centers/parks' mentioned in this list are not IN Edmonton; Reynald Museum, Elk Park and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. However, the Ukrainian Cultural Center, Fort Edmonton, Royal Alberta Museum, Legislature, West Edmonton Mall, Art Gallery, K-Days, Muttart Conservatory ARE in the city. As for WEM, it has an area of 5.3 MILLION sq. ft. (121 acres) and the world's largest parking lot, 20K spots + 10K overflow parking. Sadly, the author of the video you're reacting to could very well have included ANY of the IN Edm. sights/venues he over looked. Like the Edmonton Queen (paddle boat cruise), N. Saskatchewan River Valley (mentioned below), World of Science, Winspear Centre, CFL Edmonton Elks games, NHL Oilers games, original CN Tower (not the one in Toronto built decades after the one in Edm.), Edm. Valley Zoo. ALL are IN Edmonton, no need to leave the city for ''out of town' attractions. And in the dead of winter, you don't even have to go outside (if you're staying in a downtown core hotel), there's an interconnected Pedway system linking the downtown core (7 block X 6 block area). Or the numerous festivals held nearly EVERY weekend during summer. There's always something to do in Edmonton from Spring to Fall. Re: The North Saskatchewan River, it flows from the Rockies to converge with the SOUTH Saskatchewan River forming the Saskatchewan River before making its way to Lake Winnipeg and eventually The Hudson Bay (which, btw, is NOT fresh water as you mentioned in your 'Canadian fresh water' reaction video, it is in fact salt water). It flows through Edmonton, creating the North Saskatchewan River Valley, a green space of 18,000 acres made up of 20 major parks. Several larger than NYC's Central Park. FYI, IF Edmonton were a US city (by population in 2023, 1,544,000) it would be the 7th largest in the USA; only surpassed by Philadelphia by a mere 6,000 people. Part of the reason there are so many 'cultural' venues is because Edmonton is the Capitol of the province of Alberta. AND NO!!! An 'hour drive from Edmonton' does not count as 'Best things IN Edm.' It's 'in Edm.' not 'around the Edm. area'. And it's pronounced Weh-task-e-win, not Wet-a-skew-in (gotta love RU-vidrs that can't be arsed to look up pronunciations before uploading their videos...not YOU, the guy that made the video you're watching). But then, this is the same guy that thinks 'an hour drive from Edm.' counts as IN Edmonton. Lots to do, without having to travel 'an hour from Edmonton'.
