Brings back childhood memories. We used to have a fish and chip van come round our area once a week, which just happened to be the same day this show was on. Often it was a fish and chip tea while watching this show... Happy days.

A blast from the past. I loved Richard O’Brien in this. He was always so energetic. And good to know that at the ripe young age of almost 90 that Mumsie is still with us.

Very glad you enjoyed it! Such a fun show with lots of variety. The effort that must have gone into the set is probably the most incredible thing. The beat is amazing isn’t it! I always enjoyed watching them fail to be honest! If they get locked in they have to give up a crystal to get the person back. I don’t remember too well but I’m pretty sure sometimes they didn’t bother 😂

That definitely was a blast from the past Kid, the nostalgia was strong lol. The theme tune alone was great....amd now I can tell you one of my best anecdotes lol...me and my sister were on a train leaving from Glasgow one night (after seeing IT at the cinema), and there was a drunk guy just rambling shit and annoying everybody, I can't remember what he was shouting about, but he was doing everybody on the trains head in....once the train pulled out of the station he went into the toilet cubicle, and after a few moments started banging on the door shouting 'somebody let me out, I'm locked in'....and some legend on the train started blasting the Crystal Maze theme tune from his phone 🤣 one of those moments where the whole train compartment realised what was happening and everybody was just pissing themselves.....a conducter let him out after a while 😂 it was such a funny moment lol. As for the real Crystal Maze, I always thought I'd be so rubbish if I ever went on something like that 😅 by the time the instructions sunk in I'd be locked in! 😂 Thanks Kid 🤗💛

I used to watch this show so much when I was a kid, I probably saw every episode that Richard O'Brien hosted because he was the greatest host. For a long while I didn't realize that Madame Sabrina was played by the same lady who played Fanny in "Carry on Camping"

a trip down memory lane with richard o'brien,, didnt watch every episode but watched a few lol,,, did u know he was the co-writer of the rocky horror show, and appeared in it, (the clip u reacted to that u shoved up on patreon of tim curry, dressed up in make up and suspenders etc singing) lol

Richard Ayoade (Moss from the IT crowd) is the most recent host of the show. Richard O'Brien here being the original, FYI he created the Rocky Horror Picture Show and was in it too.

Edward Tudor-Pole hosted for 2 seasons after Richard O'Brien left, Edward often got blamed for the show's demise and supposedly he has asked that his episodes never be re-run cause he didn't think he did that great a job, Not true he did fine, it's just Richard had become so popular he was a tough act to follow.

Ah the crystal maze, this was the show that replaced Treasure Hunt with Anneka Rice in 1990 on Thursday nights. Such a great idea from the guy who brought us both shows. Edit: I loved it when Richard would say “go like the clappers”.

I would be up for more Crystal Maze reactions. The first series has a lower budget and not as much variety of games as the 5 series that followed of the original run but it’s still entertaining. Series 2 onwards gets tougher as there’s a generally harder set of games, more automatic lock-ins and no more secondary prizes for 50-100 gold tokens after silver deductions. There’s a change of host after series 4 when Richard O’Brien is replaced by Ed Tudor-Pole. Some people didn’t like the change but I thought he was good too. The Crystal Maze is one of the most popular gameshows in UK TV history and was a great recommendation. I think you’ll agree with me that the theme tune still slaps to this day.

They even did one series for a U.S. audience hosted by Adam Conover & filmed in the same U.K. studios in Bristol - shown on Nickelodeon. Unfortunately lockdown brought more episodes to an end

I don’t think the studios were in Bristol for the original 90’s run, they were in Ace’s Airfield in North Weald in Essex. The sets were kept as they were for several years after the show finished in 1996, then the process to dismantle them and auction off or junk some of the props began.

@@sg-zd8eb That is absolutely true for the 1990's series. Series 1 being filmed at Shepperton Studios (then dismantled so they could film Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves there), then moved to Aces High aircraft hanger in North Weald for the remaining 5 series. After I'd designed games for series 6, I did ask Chatsworth TV for various props, but they replied they'd all been skipped.
