You said, that the message was sad, but people had great time. That is PRIDE, that we stood up to germans against all odds. And , "Warszawo walcz!" means "Warsaw, fight"🇵🇱

Allow me to give context. In 1919, after wwI ended. Poland was reborn from lands taken from Germany & Russia. At the start of war in Europe in 1939, Poland was attacked by Germany & Russia. Both hoping to retake what was theirs to begin with. The allies had promised to save Poland. That they would invade Germany. Poland took chose to buy time the allies would to invade Germany. Poland could have lasted far longer than the mere 11 days they did had they chosen not to fight Germany head on and push back when the Allies attacked Germany. When Germany attacked. So did the French army! Until they left. Britain was quiet, France had returned to their borders. Poland was betrayed and alone. 1944. Germany is loosing on all fronts. The Polish resistance now ready to rise up and retake Warsaw from the Germans. The Allies promise weapons and ammunition. The Soviets call for Poland to rise and rejoin the fight against fascism! Poland was ready. With the supplies the Allies would be dropping in, and the red army now only a few hundred miles away. It was time for Warsaw to rise. Quickly Warsaw descended into chaos as the local German garrison tries to quell the uprising. But Germany was caught off guard. They had sent everything they could to slow the Red Army. Warsaw could do it. They could beat the Germans! All they needed was for the supplies from the allies to arrive. Those supplies never came. Once again, the allies had betrayed Poland. Now, the only hope for Warsaw was the approaching Soviet army that was but days away. Making do with whatever weapons and ammunition the could find. They held out. The Russians had made it to Warsaw! But they stopped. With the city in sight, only across a river. The last hope for Poland sat and watched. As the Germans took advantage of the situation to finish off the resistance. Close to 100000 died in the 63 day uprising. But along with the resistance. Something else died. Not only Poland's independence, but Poland's spirit. Poland was now a Soviet puppet state. Everything was to be the way the Soviets wanted. But the story doesn't end here in 1944. No, something happened in 2009. Something called Sabaton. After the collapse of the Soviet Union. Poland was independent again. Though it was a shell of it's former self. It's history was gone. The only view of their people's history was that of the Americans. Of a nation who still used horses in combat against tanks and crumbled with no resistance. But in 2009 someone made a fan music video of Sabaton's 40:1. Suddenly, over the course of a few days. Poland lit up. Millions watch and shared the fan video. All across poland people were reminded of what happened in September 1939. That Poland stood alone, betrayed, and never gave up. Even being extremely difficult for the Germans. Poland was given something back. Sabaton gave them back their Spirit, Soul & Heart. Sabaton was so impactful on Poland that Poland changed their education system. Even the church. Known for its hate of Heavy Metal. Bowed to a Metal band. So when Woodstock 2012 came around. Poland wanted to repay Sabaton for what they had done. Sabaton was to headline Poland's biggest music festival, Woodstock. With around 600000 to 750000 people at the show. That show is what you watched.

I always found Poland's spirt amazing. And I'm American. My Stepfather was born in Germany under Nazi Control. His ancestors were German and Polish. He was a teen when he and his Mother fled to the US. His birthname was changed. He was born Adolf! But, when he graduated a a few years later and joined the US Army. When I was a child we were stationed in Germany. And he made sure we knew exactly what had happened. He was always proud of his Polish side. I wish more people knew their history. But I think Sabaton is helping to spread the word through both their channels. It's a perfect way to teach history in a way kids can relate. 💕🙏

Uprising to me isn't a sad song. It's about the unbreakable will of the Polish people. Over 90% of the city destroyed thanks to the Warsaw Uprising, still they kept fighting. No help from their allies, the Soviet just sitting and watching letting them destroy themselves. Still they kept fighting. "Women, men, and children fight. They were dyign side by side" "But they never lost their faith"
@codex4046
@codex4046 2 года назад
@@Trapphus22 To me it's really both, knowing that the Russians are about 20 kilometer from the city and the only battalion that was sitting still on the front was the one near Warsaw. The Americans had planes in Russia but they were not allowed to drop ammo, food etc into Warsaw. A lot of Poles fleeing to the Russian front were arrested and interrogated by the Russian army and a lot were never seen again. The uprising is a very heroic song, but at the same time so many lives have been lost just because Russia wanted to take Poland for themselves without resistance.

Scandinavium is a hockey stadium so I think part of that 14000 areas is closed to fit the stage and every thing I have seen from this show claims that it is sold out. If I may, Warszawo Walcz! Warsaw Fight! but in Polish, he puts Warsaw in the vocative case. He's giving the city itself a personality, an almost human identity. Fun fact that led to the initial successes. The resistance fighters raided German supplies and used their uniforms and weapons resulting in massed confusion as the Germans thought they were fighting their own forces. Sadly, the Soviets merely waited across the river as the chaos unfolded. When the resisitance was all but dead they sent in their own polish forces as bait without support with obvious results before finally going in mopping up.

Also, for context, the Polish Home Army launched a rising in 1944 to attempt to seize control of Warsaw as the Germans were retreating. They wanted to establish control in the name of the government-in-exile in London, rather than have the Soviets occupy the city (and, presumably, install a communist government). The Soviets stopped their advance near the outskirts of Warsaw and this action gave the Germans time to crush the rising, after a brutal fight. While it's not as black and white as online arguments would indicate, it does seem like a significant part of the reason the Soviets stopped their advance was to allow the western-aligned Home Army to be crushed.

@realisticphish
@realisticphish 2 года назад
@@lionellines6351 The western allies weren't bending over backwards to work with communist resistance movements, but yeah, this was pretty egregious. From what I've read, there was some genuine concern about supplies, that the Soviets were advancing faster than their fuel and ammunition supply lines. But I still find it hard to believe that they couldn't have moved forward a few miles, or even linked up and provided air support, for example, if they didn't feel secure sending in infantry or armor
@Naffurie
@Naffurie 2 года назад
yes that is sadly correct, atleast from what I have read about it. The soviet in charge stopped their advance just so that the germans could crush the uprising and then went in and crushed what was left of both Polish resistance and german forces.

It's a massive mark of shame on the allied war effort that the people of Warsaw were abandoned. The Uprising was the direct result of the Soviet Army closing in on the city. The Polish knew that if the Soviets took the city they would just take over and they didn't endure years of Nazi brutality just to let that happen so their only option was to try and fight off the Nazis and retake their own city, knowing full well that the casualties would be extreme. Thing is, the Soviets taking Poland was already agreed upon by the allies so it fell under their area of influence and they wouldn't allow air drops of supplies to the Polish. So the Soviets sat outside the city and waited for the Resistance and the Nazis to finish killing each other. The Nazis were absolutely brutal. The plan was to literally wipe the city off the map and that included the people. Bombers leveled 80-90% of the buildings while death squads patrolled the ruins, murdering everyone in sight. 160,000-200,000 civilians were killed with an additional 700,000 displaced. And the allies did nothing.

The soviets tried to negotiate the delay of the uprising but the polish still started the uprising in the hopes of Not becoming a part of the soviet influence zone ... and spurred on by the Brits who had no quams of sacrificing poles to get in soviets way.

Actually, Warsaw civilians and underground survivors of military rose against nazi rule over the city (can see that from the date of 1944 - too far from the start of the WW2, when occupation of Warsaw started). The expected outcome was a disruption of nazi line against the Red Army, and both making the liberation easier and less painfull/quicker. But the uprising was quelled (by military force against lightly armed civilians) after many days of bloodshed, but before any of alies armies even DECIDED to proceed in their general direction. There is still a possibility, that Soviet army WANTED such outcome, because it was actually MOLOTOV-RIBENTROP pact double invasion into Poland in the first place, before Barbarossa.

The soviets were on the doorsteps of Warsaw but Stalin said to not enter the city until the rebellion was put down so they wouldn’t have to deal with the rebellion also not wanting to waste lives on the soviets side. (This is not a fiercer quote but we’re Stalin’s orders and reasoning for it.) I agree that it was a wrong mistake cause they were expecting us to be there and we watched them get slaughtered. We were like 5 km from the city from what I heard.

Not 5 km from the city but in the eastern half of the city (Praga district) on the right side of the Vistula river. The Soviets were only few hundred meters away from the Germans and Poles fighting each other, only separated by the river.

@@ChillDudelD ohh ok. I was hesitant to say that but thanks for pointing that out. I knew they were very close to the poles and did nothing. Stalin was kind of a prick for doing that but I understand his reasoning for it. Because he knew that Russians would die as well as he wanted to have the rebellion put down so they would not have an issue once they took over.

@@Davidkiser13 ofc Stalin was a prick. There is a french book called 'The Black book of communism'. It's really something that the whole world should read.

you make the comment that the song is sad in a way and i don't completely agree with that. Yes, it is sad that the Nazis and the Soviets invaded Poland and the allies did nothing, and then in 1944 again, when they could free their capital, no help came from the allies again. But it also shows how brave and stubborn the Polish people really are. Here in Belgium, when they talk about the invasion of Poland, they just say it took thz German army very little time and that the Polish people just surrendered, which is a lie (see the song 40:1 from sabaton for that one) and the Warsaw uprising isn't even mentioned. Now that i find sad, and i'm happy Sabaton makes the point to educate us further.

Not yet, but several folks told me the history of the song in the comments. It is crazy how a song can hold so much power.
