Thanks John and Tam. The meat spreads have a devil because they ste called" deviled ham and deviled beef". They were very famous in the 40s through 70s. Usually you fine dice some pickle or add sweet pickle relish and a little mayo to make a sandwich spread. Helped to make a little go a long way and stretch the budget. Now I keep a couple cans for emergency disaster preparedness because it is shelf stable and ready to eat protien. Clove is a numbing agent in the mouth lol. Dentists offices always smelled like clove back in the old days.😂
Thanks to you both,Tam and John! I always enjoy your videos and seeing what John has come up with for you to try. That Street Corn popcorn from Herr looks delicious as do the Beer Cheese pretzels. Pretzels are my jam. I love them. I get a lot of good simple recipes to flavor pretzels off of Pinterest Tam, you can easily make plain pretzels give you an extra hit of flavor this way and they are even better than store bought. The potted meats are something that was way more popular in the 60s and 70s than now as far as I can tell. I don't think I have had them since I was a small child. That clove gum is an old-fashioned flavor, too. It can be hard to find. I usually see it in the gift shop at Cracker Barrel.
Thanks John and thanks Tam! After that Junee taste test, I couldn’t resist taking my family out there for a little Sunday drive. We may have bought a bit too much choccy… oops
Lol my grandma always had that ham spread in her cabinet..thank God when I went over to mow her lawn I threw it away in the garbage. I told her ate it. Lol
Great video, Tam! You know, I understand that the population of Australia is around 26 million people, and I'll bet you are the only one who has ever tried clove flavored gum, beer cheese flavored pretzels and maple ham flavored spread all in one sitting. Cloves can easily dominate any recipe they are included in, so I have to wonder why so many grandmas had cloves in their spice racks. I suspect your breath was clove-scented for a little while after finishing the taste test. Muddy Buddies used to be a recipe that could be found on the back of a box of Rice Chex or Corn Chex cereal, and generally requires chocolate chips, powdered sugar and peanut butter, and maybe some butter. There are plenty of recipes online for making your own Muddy Buddies (also known as Puppy Chow, I believe). I've liked all the flavors of Underwood spreads that I have tried, but I can see how someone who is not used to having canned meat that has been ground into an almost toothpaste-like consistency might not be a fan. The flavor is good, even if the texture is nothing like the fresh cuts of meat you can find in the deli section of the supermarket.
Yes I wonder how many Australians have tried most of the stuff I have tried (thanks to you) The Pop Daddy pretzels are so good. After I finished them I went up to my local supermarket to see what pretzels I could find and they only had normal salted pretzels that was it. So I really do feel very grateful. The Muddy Buddies were also great good texture and flavour combo. I really gave the Underwood spreads a good try and was hoping to like them more but perhaps because I'm just not used to canned meat and the texture was difficult to get past. Although when I was a kid I do remember having some kind of meat spread from a jar can't remember what it was called. Thanks so much
@@CheekyTam The clove gum along with one called Black Jack, a black licorice flavor and Teaberry flavor (minty) are actually from years ago and they've been reintroduced as nostalgic or retro gum. From the 50s and 60s. I dislike the clove as well.
In Ireland, we have sweets called Clove Drops which are 🤢! They're so bad, that Michael Fassbender wouldn't eat them in Snack Wars. Also Clisare gave Louna Maroun a Clove Drop and she did not like it.
Another fun taste test episode, Tam! You won't catch me eating the canned meat; looks like cat food! Hey, maybe it was for the 2 cats! Lol. The pretzels did sound nice. Great face reactions especially to the gum.
