An American think tank has said that it spotted dredgers of Cambodia's Ream naval base where China is funding constructional activities. This is being used to deepen port facilities which are necessary for the docking of large military ships.

"Ream" is the Cambodian variant of the Indian name "Rama" or "Ram", and is pronounced like the latter.

That was the first thought that crossed my mind also. This Ream base is pretty close to Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh city and Vietnam & Southeast Asian countries are already unhappy with China's South China Sea military buildup near their countries.

China has the largest overseas trade. It is normal to build military bases to protect merchant ships. Meanwhile, the United States has hundreds of military bases around the world.
