Hey man. Unfortunately in kenya we are very weird about cameras. For context we have a history with terrorist attacks. You'll notice alot of security at and around building entrances. This is why. Also, the cops who called you are guarding the central bank of kenya which is supposedly a heavily guarded building. It doesn't always make sense but it is what it is..
Visit Nyali as well it's beautiful place,then go to forty Jesus ,go ferry mtwapa and diani but be very care there's this behaviour of small boy's going around with bike in aiming of snatching phone, be extremely careful.
Where you were passing through that you couldn't record, I saw it's like you were passing by a prison and also government/federal buildings so I can guess probably that's why they did not allow you to record. Be careful in you walks in Kenya but especially Mombasa cause it seems it's not as liberal as Nairobi with recordings. Read all the signs on the gates or entrances and just don't record until you get to places where there are no fed buildings or things like that. I think Mombasa is not as free as Nairobi. So watch yourself bro.
State House Mombasa. That's an official Government building where the President stays. All State Houses across the country don't allow photography and you can be killed if you go too close.
Mombasa is very nice place imo best in kenya to live. But hey dont get carried away comparing it to carribean or asia thailand Vietnam cambodia or many other dream places in the world .
