I agree the only other that annoys more than people saying sandwichs when it's a burger is how they call kiwifruit Kiwi. I mean they don't call grapefruit grape so why call kiwifruit Kiwi lol.
@@thekiwinomadbecause grapes and grapefruit are different fruits whereas there is only kiwi fruit different kinds sure but nothing else with a similar name
@@Soni_csI agree with you, they target a specific customer so I think their prices reflect that, it’s definitely not for everyone but if you are after a more gourmet burger then they are it if you’re after the average burger than go to McDonald’s lol
better than mcD and BK, but BF have priced themselves as restaurant quality burgers which they arnt. Id rather spend my $20 for a bar burger. Ekim is better and cheaper too.
You can’t really compare burgerfuel to McDonald’s and bk because they’re completely different markets. They might both sell burgers but the people buying McDonald’s are not the same people buying burgerfuel. People that shop at new world buy the same food as pak n save but pay far more for the ambience, and luxurious experience. A better comparison to burgerfuel would be shake out or winner winner etc
@@bigrarkz7465 The thing I hate most about McDorks is the customers. Seems like most of them just leave their garbage where they finished with it. And the last burger I had from them tasted a lot like the cardboard box it was in
Remember you need to sign up for it now on their new app. The TOS say it needs to be done 3 month's in advance and they send the voucher to your app. No more shop hopping to each store for your birthday XD.
The reason they're so expensive is because of the quality, it's so much better than McDonald's, and Burger King, their food is processed, where as BurgerFuel uses home grown ingredients.
@@mouse7669 When I was a teenager that wasn't considered gourmet, that was just what you got at any burger joint, that turned to crap when McDonalds turned up, now people think McDonalds is actually a burger.
@silverdale3207 How old are you? cause I'm 36 and I don't remember a single place that did burgers like that back in the day. The only place I can think of that does burgers somewhat similar to burger fuel is fergburger
@@tumatauenga6433 I'm 60 so you've probably never know proper burgers, pre McDonalds, every chippy and burger joint had toasted buns with beetroot, eggs, pineapple bacon etc, most of them disappeared when Maccas came to NZ,Burgerfuel etc are just bringing back what used to be common in NZ and good on them.
@tumatauenga6433 im 48 and grew up poor so flash burges were outa my control but, i remember local chippies making burgs similar to BF. Sadly the separation between the two has become wider over the years. Burger Fuel and Hells Pizza have found a niche that works, although as I have said before work well as an occasional treat versus every day meal. Anyway my 2 cents lolz.
The BEST Chinese food restaurant is just on that corner... Top Taste... You have to try it... Stuffed chicken wings! A bit pricey but totally worth it!
Im a kiwi. Yes burger fuel is expensive but its 100% nz owned and the quality is better if you compare it to the likes of burger king. You can also get some good deals with the app and a free burger on your birthday
Hey Brock.... I don't know if you are sticking to the main centres or travelling the regions. 2 suggestions... Fairlie Bakehouse pies are among the best in the country, but a little pricey. Well worth trying. My favourite is the Pork Belly. But they do a ton of gourmet flavours. In Timaru, the best burgers are from VIP's, which is a dairy/fast food on the main road. Good ingredients and generous portions.
That McD's in Porirua is the first one in New Zealand. It opened in 1976. Not only do we still have KMart in New Zealand, but more stores are still opening. The one in Napier is only about 2 years old.
I think their prices are around the same as the so-called "Gourmet" range at MacDonalds, or the Burger Wisconsin chain here in NZ, who the quality is most comparable to. I have no problem with paying the price if I want a decent burger. Not cheap to run a business anywhere these days. So if you want it, and can afford it, pay up. Otherwise stick to the basic range at MacD's or Burger King if lining your stomach is all that is important.
I’ve had Burger fuel twice, it’s amazing but the prices are ridiculous. As much as I’d love to have it regularly I don’t support the price. I’m surprised there still in business.
0:57 Yeah but you can't beat a good day in Welly! If you're in PTown and want a good pie, pop down to Nada Bakery in Tawa - Steak&Cheese highly recommended.
Yeah, even for New Zealand, Burger Fuel is definitely on the spensi side. You do get good quality and flavour, but boy do you pay for it. I only go there to treat myself or if I'm taking someone who's never tried it before (everyone should go at least once). Even if I had more disposal income, I don't think I'd go there more often than that just on principle.
Burgerfuel used to be way better, but they changed the cooking method of the beef and moved from sliced beetroot to the shredded stuff and took the malt out of their shakes to improve the production aspect of the food and well, I went from eating it more than once a week to about twice a year :/. Personally I think they got too much feedback from friendly people about the changes (like asking your mother how well you’re doing).
Yep totally agree, the burgers are too expensive. The fries (chips in NZ) do get softer trapped in a cardboard box where there is steam/heat. Trick is to eat them fresh as they are made. Even 4 or 5 mins later they will be softer. All up though, Burgerfuel makes nice beef burgers. ‘Can’t see why you need a fried chicken burger. ‘Suggest you also try Fatimas when you are in Auckland and dive into a lamb Shawarma. I don’t know if they are in Welly.
The Bastard and Spud fries with aioli are my go to at Burger Fuel all so it is a more gourmet takeaways that why they more expensive then other places, totally worth it.
Burger fuel is definitely on the more expensive side they target a specific audience so their prices reflects that, it’s not for the average Joe, it’s more for consumers who are after a more gourmet burger, they use more expensive ingredients such as beetroot and avocado etc in their burgers, they have a loyal customer base hence why they can survive with such high prices
Why are people snivelling about the prices at BurgerFuel. The Burger Fuel burgers are much bigger, and made with fresh ingredients. Essentially you are getting a meal between two freshly made buns, that contain no preservatives. If you want a small cheap burger that is processed and loaded with preservatives go to Maccas. Plus at Burger Fuel the premises are always clean and you probably wont get loads of screaming kids running around to ruin your meal.
Maybe it's just me, but the prices are fair for what you get. I get a burger from burger fuel and I'm full for a good few hours, I get a Mac large attack combo from mcdonalds I'm starving in a couple of hours. So the upfront price is kind've nullified by having to eat less in a day. Just my opinion though
Burgerfuel is expensive but the burgers are the best. They're definitely worth a splurge once in a while. And also the burgers are HUGE and really filling, so you actually CAN share fries & a shake with your buddy or date because you don't need one each once you've eaten that massive burger.
I thought the little girl was watching you eat, and then van started reversing, lol. You should try nz gourmet sausages, lamb & mint, or pork & apple cider if you like warm fruit. Bread, butter, sauce. Stay beautiful, chur.
The other thing you have to remember is Burger Fuel's burgers are like 3 to 4 times the weight of say a burger king burger. The beef parry is actually thick and properly charred. It's a premium brand.
I have this understanding that Burgerfuel in the 00's is basically what brought aoli to the public in NZ. Then it was everywhere. I don't remember there being aoli around before Burgerfuel. Anyone else remember?
you could get some authentic new zealand owned burgers from the famous white lady burger however it is a food truck so if you can track it down it is worth it
I'd used to be a big fan of Burgerfuel, but honestly, I think they're too focused on gimmicky burgers to create fomo more than actually good ingredients put together with care. So many better non-chain local options out there to try and it's always nice to support the underdog
A number of points should be noted... Firstly Burger Fuel is a gourmet burger chain meaning that all ingredients are either free range or ethically sourced. By definition, this means that they will be expensive which carries over to the price. Secondly (its been years since I had a Bastard & it has bn altered in the intervening time) is the largest of Burger Fuels menu options and hence commands the largest price. That said, the earlier version included mango chutney which they've substituted for something else (beetroot slaw?) which puts me off ordering it.
Hey! I couldn't find anywhere to message you so I figured I would just comment. I am kiwi and love these kinds of videos. I want to recommend a place in Kapiti, which I see you've been before, called "Salty's Diner" and the reason why is because they are awesome and they are a Kiwi take on an American style diner. They've even got the airstream caravan set up. Pretty cool. Also try the "Birria beef loaded fries" and like whatever else. Ps, your channel is awesome, I have subbed and am now a frequent watcher! Thanks for the cool content. have great day.
I made a quite disparaging comment on your personality about one of your previous videos . But I retract that based on this one far more engaging without being hyper enthusiastic like a lot of reviewers. Enjoyed this one.
Getting a wierd kick out of watching you rate food here. BF is a sometimes eat for us, too exp, find a country chippie/burger shop that uses local meat and veg, it will blow your mind.
Burger Fuel is awesome, and for a Celiac suffer like me, it’s the ONLY fast food type place that actually does a proper gluten free burger, and it’s any burger you fancy, not limited to one boring burger. The Burgers are so big and full they are more than twice the amount of food and the quality makes it worth it for me.
A fairer comparison than Burger King or Maccas would be getting a burger from the corner Fish & Chip shop, especially one that does "gourmet" burgers. Even most Chinese places do a pretty decent burger.
I'm Team "Double American Muscle". I've never even tried anything else off the menu. And yes - you're right - EVERYTHING is expensive in New Zealand once you leave the house. Don't get me started on Hoyts.
If you want the true kiwi experience hopefulmy youre here during summer because you need to try 1. Pork bone Boil up w doughboys (fry bread on the side) 2. A traditional hangi 3. Whitebait fritters 3. Pavlova (Bonus nacks and drinks; burger rings, Whittakers milk Chocolate, (tim tam double coat (arnotts butternut snap is good too), pascal party mix, marmite and chip sandwich, whittakers pineapple lump chocolate milk, raro. Classic kiwi combo you can get from most dairys Big ben Steak and cheese pie, choc bar ice cream (memphis meltdown is also good) can of l&P
Another great video Brock, your reactions are priceless 🤣😂😆 but it is because of those outrageous prices per item that I have not gone here yet. Perhaps one day I might after watching your review but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it 😜
OK... so, it's not takeout, but please try Whittakers chocolate. You can get a block from any supermarket for about 5 bucks. Also, try out coffee and compare it to US coffee... but just to be on the safe side, get a coffee from a chain coffee shop (eg, Robert Harris), an independent coffee shop, from Maccas, and from a Z service station.
The cost of living here is INSANE. I really really feel sorry for visitors who want to try all our food but are shocked by the prices. We're (kinda) used to it, but for travellers it can be a bit of a gut punch. Even our fast food chains are pricey. Glad you enjoyed BurgerFuel. My fave place for burgers in Wellington is Burger Liquor. I like a simple burger, like the double standard (& a whiskey)
Burgerfuel are likely the best chain burger joint in NZ, but there are probably better burger places around for similar high-end prices. Burger Burger, Burger Geek (one shop only I think) in Auckland just to name a couple, but BF are throughout the country and you know the quality is going to be consistent wherever you go.
@@tommyau2006Burger Wisconsin is a New Zealand Company: "The first Burger Wisconsin store opened its doors in the Wellington suburb of Wadestown in 1989. While we’re NZ owned, leading the way for delicious healthy food in the burger market, we pay tribute to the history of great burgers through our name Burger Wisconsin, which reflects Wisconsin, USA’s title ‘Home of the Hamburger’."
if you haven't tried kebabs yet go to Morteza Kebab & Bakery in wellys and get yourself a mixed kebab and/or the meat on chips. Absolute banger. Also raro is the New Zealand version of kool aid
Burger Fuel for me is a rare treat and all about the sizing and quality. The size/weight and ingredients is just no comparison. But if you wanted to pay $25 for 2 people then you'd have to go somewhere else like McDonald's.
Fair assessment tbh. I like their burgers but you’re right, the prices are far too high. They probably do have the best burgers out of the main burger franchises you find here in nz (if you include McDonald’s, BK, KFC) but they need to put the price down or at least turn them into combos to make it more worth it. Fries and milkshakes shouldn’t be too much to ask for if they add $5 to the burger price like he said.
Yup, their prices are over the top, by miles. I mean, the price of the chips especially is ridiculous, there's probably 50 cents worth or potatoes if that.
Burgerfuel is 100% worth the price in my opinion. Not only are the burgers bigger than BK or Maccas but in general they're better quality hands down. Not to mention they have Gluten free as an option which means someone like me who's celiac gets to enjoy a burger too! And Kmart needs to come to the Naki already...
dude the burgers are over twice the price of BK or Maccas you'd kinda expect they would be bigger wouldn't you. myself i would just get a giant burger from any fish any chips shop for half the price and bigger than their "bastard" burger
Highly recommend Burger Wisconsin for a one time try if you have one around you as well, same deal as burger fuel, really good burgers (in my opinion) but a bit pricey.
