Have you ever heard of hagelslag? Well, I hadn't either until very recently. It's Dutch. It's chocolate, and it's for breakfast. Let's try it!

Im from Amsterdam. Brood is a typical breakfast and lunch. People buy slices bread in the supermarket, and make them ready at home, slices bread with toppings and take them with to eat later. If you like I can send you a box of Dutch food. Stroopwafels are also great. Beschuit you can always put butter on to make it a little less dry. You should try beschuit with slices of strawberry and a little powedery sugar on top.

The Dutch do things a bit different. I worked Dutch soldiers a bit in Bosnia in 99, they had some sort of chocolate pudding for breakfast if I remember right. Other guys I know worked with them in Eritrea in 2000. They had been eating rations for quite a while and finally got the kitchen up and running on Christmas. It was a Dutch kitchen and they had some fries cooked. The Canadians there were excited to see what they thought was gravy. Turns out it was warmed up peanut butter with the consistency of gravy. Fries and peanut butter gravy, who knew.

in albania we have pershesh for breakfast a lot. Its greek yogurt with a little bit of water to become a thick liquid. Then finely chop some garlic (optional), a couple drops of olive oil for flavor (optional) and a little bit of salt as well, mix well. Then break with your hands small pieces of bread, traditionally over the plate that has the yogurt so the breadcrumbs fall into the dish, let the bread soak for a bit and wuolah! I reccomend trying it just yogurt water and bread, then add some salt, or olive oil, or garlic, to see if you like the toppings. Also the bread should be a little thick, a chewy white bread would be perfect. If you like it sweet finely chop half a green apple without skin, and add a few raisins, nyoucan do oats instead of bread for the sweet one.

In Italy Beschuit are known as "fette biscottate" (overcooked bread slices), not biscotti which is the Italian term for cookie or biscuit and has a completely different meaning in the U.S.

For the dutch its bread during breakfast depending on seasons of the year a good kickstart of calories in the morning helps against the colder windt and rainy eviroments . Remeber kids and adult mostly ride their bikes to school work or train station in all weather . Jams , hazelnut paste chocolate sprinkles cold meats cheese all breakfast items . Cold and wet windy mornings you will be greatfull having some calories to burn also your brain , as it gets a little kickstart

The Dutch brought you more then you think, you probably tough dutch every day. :) The Dutch things / inventions are cassettes, cd's, dvd's, bluetooth, Wi-Fi, telescope, microscope, submarine, speed camera, orange carrots, gin, firehose, the eye test, artificial kidney, Heineken beer, Shell and Philips and about 1500 english words that come originally from The Netherlands, etc. But besides this, also try Chocomel, stroopwafels and borrelnootjes you will love them! (and ofcourse there is so much more)

Great video. Thank you! I have a close friend that is from the States, but now lives in the Netherlands. Have you tried an actual Dutch made Stroopwafel? Not one made elsewhere, but one made over there. They are fantastic, but once again moderation is the key because they are so good. Highly recommend Tony Vergunst Stroopwafels if you can get ahold of it.

So now I know where Tokyo Rusk got their inspirations from! This content reminds me a lot of the content from Atomic Shrimp, based out of the UK. I originally found him because of the brilliant scam baiting that he does, but I stayed for the food he brings to his kitchen table. He also takes us out mudlarking, and other nature trips.
