TODAY I visit the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman) in Quezon City. This campus located in the Metro Manila area is absolutely incredible! 📸 Instagram: / zane.jpegs ---- #philippines #manila #travel
Thank you for taking us to visit the largest university in the Philippines on a rainy day! I hope you can go back to university one day to complete your master's degree! 👍🥰🙏
I’m in Las Vegas. Grew up here in the states. Freshman year at the university of Maryland. Grandfather retired from world bank in 1987. Invited me on semester break and transferred to UP DILIMAN College of Architecture. Stayed for 5 years and 87 to 92. I miss the Philippines
UP Diliman is one of well known University here in the Philippines, It is considered as Green School, they preserve the green spaces. I've been wanted to study there before but I chose to study here in our province where I live but the University of the Philippines had been my ideal university before.
Never would have thought of visiting a college campus for a self tour, have never been suggested by anyone in PI to go see how beautiful UPD is! It’s gorgeous! And they have a mall? Amazing!!!!
UP Diliman or University of the Philippines Diliman, is a government-owned university where students from all strata of life, from Classes A to E, study.
UP TOWN CENTER is actually not a mall dedicated for students. Ayala malls just called it that way because it’s in the UP Area or Brgy. UP Campus (Which is an actual baranggay btw) It’s also probably just a marketing ploy by the ayalas to name it like so since UP is the top university in the Philippines. But yeah it’s still very accessible to students and also a good escape from the heat in the campus.
Zane You looked like you were having so much fun talking with the snack ladies❤️ l really appreciate this part of your channel because some travel vloggers seem stand offish and too polite Thanks❤
WOW! I was a student in 1980. The campus changed so much that I couldn't recognize. A few things you mentioned I distinctly remember--I was a student in the college of letters. I took classes in the school of Econ and law school. I frequented the library. Also, played soccer at the stadium you walked by. I lived in a dorm called International Center fairly close to law and econ schools. The mall used to be a small stip mall where we used to have our lunch and dinner- Catering to students so meals were very inexpensive. The mall now looks very elaborate and more options. Forty-three years is a longtime! Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your travels!
The UP Tpwn Center Mall is the original location of the UP Integrated School. UPIS moved inside the main campus to give way to the construction of the mall.
Hi ZANE WOW YOU VISITED MY OLD UNIVERSITY I STUDIED MY FIRST YEAR BEFORE I TRANSFERRED AND MIGRATED HERE IN THE USA….. THANKS FOR FEATURING IT SO I CAN SEE THE GLIMPSE OF HOW THEY LOOK NOW 👍👍👍👍👍👌🙌💕🖐️
I graduated from UP Manila along Padre Faura St., which holds the medical degrees. Also the oldest of the UP System schools. I wish we had a nice campus like Diliman. Our buildings were scattered and there were no parks or green areas.
Thanks for the video! Hope you enjoyed our campus! That's the flagship campus of the state's university system. It was created during the American period after the US recommended to the Philippine Commission the creation of such a public university. The construction of the Diliman campus was initially funded by Americans as well, after World War II left our cities largely destroyed. :P Just a friendly tip: you can ask your Filipino friends for some tips on how to pronounce our words. And, mall videos are okay, we are a land of malls, you won't be able to avoid it! I think this is a good thing because having lived in the US for a year now, I miss the variety of food and shopping options - both local and international (US, European, Asian, Australian) brands and how they are so conveniently located and easily accessible. Also, CBTL is local for me, since... it's a US brand owned by a Philippine company - Jollibee! hehe. You can "avail", hehehehe so Filipino. 🤣🤣
I spent my best and maybe worst times there. 🤩😢 Three years, then dropped out for a year. Dropped back in and got my DVM degree. Shortly after, the veterinary college was moved to Los Banos. It's completely gone from Diliman. So sad 😢😭
The 1st place you went to is the Oblation Plaza. Then Quezon Hall the admin building. The open space is the Amphitheater. Thats where various open field events are held with the main one, the University Graduation ceremony in late July.
Watching and getting ready for our trip next month. Picking up a lot of great stuff from your vlogs. How do you handle walking around and not being bothered by anyone? I hope we can do the same. We've been told not to wander around by ourselves in Manila, that's why. I am in awe of you.
when i was in highschool i struggled because i'm just not academically inclined. so i wasn't accepted into any universities. i did various programs and eventually got into a uni in my mid 20s. i'm still in that uni degree now. i've failed many classes many times and i've completely given up then restarted my efforts a few times. im struggling in it still. when i hear people talking casually about how they studied at uni it makes me feel bad. thanks for reading. good video.
Where you asked how to get to the mall, on the right is Benitez Hall or College of Education. UP Integrated School is Elementary to Senior High School.
You should have tried the food hub inside the campus and have a chat with the students. Perhaps next time in a cool good weather. 28:43 college women's basketball.
Hi Zane, very frustrating to see miscommunications happening, like when you were asking about chicharon if its pork normally and now your matcha drink. I think next time you can just return the drink and have them make you another one, it's not your fault.
I'm from UPD. Not sure where Rodic's is right now (in my time it was at the old SC (Shopping Center) but its tapsilog is a must try! And also Mang Larry's isaw (chicken/pork intestines) is very popular (I love how they char it til crispy, and also their vinegar dip 🤤).
I earned my bachelor’s degree from and went to law school in UP Diliman. I’m currently doing a master’s degree in UP Diliman. It’s one of the 8 constituent universities of the UP System. The other 7 are spread throughout the country.
I'm a product of a prestigious State University under a government funded scholarship but how i wish i had my education from a Catholic School. San Beda University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran and the University of Santo Tomas are like dreams for me. Poor students have less choices i guess.
on the other hand, a big number of catholic school students wants to study in UP because of its repute and cheap tuition, but couldn't, despite having enough financial means. fact is, the world is unfair
It is being rented from UP. UP is not allowed to sell part of the academic campus bec it is a govt property. Same with other state Univ. This is to help UP with their budget. Same is done in PUP Sta. mesa. They rented out a parcel of land in their campus.
The legacy of the Americans to the Filipinos was EDUCATION. They established the Education System in the Philippines patterned after the US public school system. Hence, they built the University of the Pjilippines (UP) as a public school funded by the government. Until now, UP remains to be a STATE UNIVERSITY. Primary and secondary schools were also established. To operationalize the newly US - established Philippines' education system, 600 American teachers traveled from the US to the newly occupied territory of the Philippines on the U. S. ArmyTransport Thomas. The group included 346 men and 180 women, hailing from 43 different states and 193 colleges, universities, and normal schools. They arrived in the Philippines on August 21,1901, to established a new public school system, to teach basic education, and to train Filipino teachers, with English as the medium of instruction. On the other hand, the legacy of the Spaniards to the Filipinos was RELIGION/CHRISTIANITY. You can see century - old catholic churches in every town across the Philippines. Many were built as far back as in the 1500 - 1600
UP Diliman campus it's like not the same as the regular gated university but it's more like an open community of collective different campuses and even have its own local barangay which is a small political territorial and administrative district forming the most local level of government. and considered as one of the biggest universities in the world in terms of land area
23:02 Hi there! If you happen to forget your membership card at Landers, don't worry! You can still access the store by presenting any form of identification to the customer service. The University of the Philippines is the name of the school. Diliman is the name of the branch or one of the districts of Quezon City, Metro Manila where you can find UP, Diliman.
28:00 Why you did not returned it? 230 php is still 230. Usually they will change it specially if you politely asked. Anyways, sorry that you experienced that.
I didn't study in U.P. Diliman, but at Silliman University, Negros Oriental. Yes, that U.P. is the Philippines' biggest university. But, back to Silliman, it's one of the top 10 Philippine universities. The only Protestant university in the Philippines, founded by American missionaries, and granted $10,000.00 from Dr. Horace B. Silliman, located in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The military matcha that you were complaining about was literally under the coffee bar section. But next time you have an issue just return it and ask for what you want. They more than likely will just chalk it up to not understanding you correctly. 👍🏽
I am a UP Diliman graduate (BA Philosophy) batch 1987 (I'm 54 now but live in the USA. Have 2 homes in SF Bay Area & Marblehead MA). Zane, you could have returned the matcha/coffee and they should have given you a replacement or a refund. Don't hesitate to return products that you are not satisfied with or if you did not get what you asked for. The Philippines has one of the best customer service practices in the world.
U ate something that I never saw, it's the vegetarian version. The chicharron is pork skin. Boiled in water and then fried. But I wonder if it tastes the same as the meat version????
I know you’re a cat lover because I followed your videos with you patting cats. Next time please bring with you some food for hungry stray cats. I always bring even some few give away foodies to street cats 🐱 Thanks 🙏
Zane, you can check in advance the weather in Quezon City or any place in the Philippines through your smartphone. If there are scattered thunderstorms and no typhoon signal, it will last for 30-60 minutes. If it is just showering, it will usually continue the whole day or night.
