I heard that it was influenced by Malay, due to the Dutch bringing many people from the Dutch East Indies to South Africa to...work. Additionally, Indians and various parts of Africa. South Africa had...laws regarding these people learning Dutch, so their grasp of it was imperfect. And, despite Dutch purists among the elite, those imperfections gradually led to the development of Afrikaans. Or something like that. That is only what I heard.

@@AT-rr2xw Naturally when a language travels it picks up loan words, it would have the odd Malay or Khoekhoe and San languages, Portuguese etc. Afrikaans vocabulary is over 90% Dutch. It is mutualy intelligible with Nederland's Dutch in particular dialects in Holland. It is as Dutch as Belgian Dutch aka Flemish. Compare that with English which has over 80% loan words of which 35% is French. When the settlers first got to the Cape it was called Cape Dutch and it was a peasant and working class dialect. When the 2 Dutch and 2 British colonies were amaglamated in to create Union of South Africa, the official languages of South Africa were English and Dutch. Afrikaans replaced Dutch in 1961. When the French and German settlers joined in & there was migration into the interior there was a rebranding to African Dutch shortened to Afrikaans in order to create a new single identity, the Afrikaner nationalist hegemony.

As a Dutchman, it was interesting to hear Josephine from Namibia. I knew that Namibia and South Africa both speak Dutch, or I should say Afrikaans, but since it's so far away, I never hear it. I would also be very curious to hear all the different Dutch-speaking countries together. Belgium would have a very clear Flemish accent, and although I would defintely recognize Afrikaans, I likely won't be able to distinguish between South Africa and Namibia. I also wonder how different Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten would sound, since they're all small islands in the Caribbean, and whether they would sound similar to the Suriname accent. And I know they also speak Dutch in some parts of Indonesia, but that's definitely the minority in their country. But I don't think you'll be able to find people from all those countries in South Korea at the same time, especially because Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten have only ~50k-200k residents each. But I'm already happily surprised to see someone from Namibia on your channel, and I hope to see more of her. ^_^

Shona lady.... Table is tafura... From afrikaans... Tafel.... Modern Shona has heavily borrowed words from mostly English, Afrikaans, Ndebele, Zulu and lastly Portuguese. This is because of the cultures that have been a part of Zimbabwean history for ages. Eg shona word for table is tafura from afrikaans tafel, a jacket is bhachi from afrikaans baadjie, cup is komichi from kommetjie, room is kamuri from kamer then many English borrowed words as most people prefer communicating and writing in English. I guess it is the same for Namibia and other English speaking southern african countries because of the very large numbers of Europeans in the region and also because these were the last countries to gain independence in Africa...... Hope that helps 😊😊😊😊😊

The problem is most of these items are not native to southern Africa so we are more likely not to have names for them. We just used the words that the Europeans used for simplicity. They should use objects that are found all over the world regardless which part of it you exist, such as the sun, water etc
