As a Venezuelan I will say 2 things: 1. A couple decades ago civilians could own guns and even open carry in the backcountry. You had access to shotguns, hunting rifles, handguns, and some "semi-auto/automatic" rifles (it was around the 1950s) in a reasonably accessible manner if you had to money to afford them. 2. Now, the few very people that had guns in this century are now illegal because the government left them on a years-long waiting list for renovating their permits. In 2017 a new gun law (which can be called illegitimate) was published that made it practically impossible to own them. The ones that have guns now are corrupt military and public personnel, along with what we call "Colectivos" which are basically thugs with guns that work for the government. Oh, and the gangs that are killing dozens of people in mass shootings every month, gangs that were armed by the government in a program so-called "Peace zones" or Zonas de Paz. The people armed are the ones that do harm to our society, and good abiding citizens that want to protect their families can't even get a revolver. Our military left us to die multiple times and the government doesn't care at all about us. The only person that will protect you 24/7 your whole life is YOU, only you. It's every living being's right to protect their lives by all matters. Edit: Holy bananas I didn't expect so many likes. Thanks for the good vibes guys! Stay prepared and aware.

To those who say otherwise a simple conversation can go a long way. One of my sisters in law recently said that she wouldn't trust herself with a gun because she thinks she would hurt herself. She's a doctor went to school for like 10 years. I told her that at the beginning of her educational career if I put a scalpel in her hand you Probably would have done more harm than good but after a few years of training you can now save lives with the scalpel. Guns are the same way. That response really gave her some pause.

The thing that scares me the most about these interviews is that it seems a whole lot of younger people think of the whole constitution as old and outdated.

Let me fill in the blanks for that first woman: "I'm kind of anti-gun because that's how I've been indoctrinated, but I'm about to buy my first house and I don't want to get slapped in the face by reality so I'm thinking about getting a gun." It's hilarious how John says the word "gun" when he asks the question. He's got to ease them into the topic and not trigger a flashback to that time in kindergarten when one of their schoolmates shaped a poptart to resemble a gun.

I really like how John is able to speak to anyone. Excellent example of healthy engagement.

The comma between both parts of the 2nd is really really important. One refers to having a well organized militia of free men and the other specifies that the government CANNOT infringe on inalienable rights of Americans. People forget that the Bill of Rights isn’t a rules list for the people but for the government.

No one needs a “military grade” firearm. Get yourself something better that isn’t made from the lowest bidder.

Yeah, John didn't quote the whole 2nd Amendment, but it was the first part that he skipped. Then he folded when John challenged him. He sure sounded like someone who was used to posing as an intellectual. Too many people in the U.S. think they "know" something because they heard a newscaster spout an opinion about a controversial topic.

I love how the girl mentioned that the problem isn't the citizens buying guns because their only buying guns to protect themselves. The problem is the criminals who DON'T follow laws and some of them aren't even supposed to have access to guns and either way they get guns. Perfect example is Venezuela where all the thugs got guns and the government took away all of the guns from the law abiding citizens. The sailor angered me the most. Had absolutely no idea what it is he swore an oath to. If it’s any consolation, I can assure you that virtually all of those I have met in service, infantry Marines none the less, will defend the constitution from all threats foreign and domestic.

The fact that these people do not understand that the Bill of Rights are actually rights that the government is charged with protecting at all costs is scary as hell. The Founders did not view our rights as something "granted" by the government. Our rights are bestowed upon us by our Creator and NO government can take them away, NO MATTER WHAT.

When the 2nd Amendment was written civilians literally owned their own warships and would be asked to help the military if the military needed them. So Americans should be able to use any weapon they so chose to protect their family, home, and protect against a Tyrannical government.

AWESOME video John. This is how we get things done. Talking to people and respecting their opinions (even if you don't agree with them) as they should ours. It makes me sick (and angry) when I see Kaepernick and his followers kneeling during the national anthem but as a 101st Airborne veteran, I will fight tooth and nail their right to do it because it is constitutionally protected. We can not cherry pick the constitution.
