A lot of Australian performers are friends. Understand that the industry is a lot smaller in Australia than the US. So many have worked together. And John Farnham has worked at some time with almost all of them.

No John Farnham had natural talent, no training just God given talent. He can sing every genre, beautiful ballads and rock & roll, blues, R&B and anything else you can think of, he's the GOAT.

The three of them were born in other countries and emigrated to Australia as children- John from England, Jimmy from Scotland and Mark/Diesel from the USA. A number of Australian singers and bands have that story. I believe that the Australian culture offered them an environment to grow and thrive in regarding their musical ability and life in general. Many of our rock popular singers and bands learnt the ropes, honed their skills and paid their dues on the Aussie pub (hotel/bar) rock circuit.

Fun fact, the guy playing the guitar solo is a musician named "Diesel" (real name Mark Lizotte).....he's Jimmy Barnes' brother-in-law 🙂

Forgot to point out. I like to brag that I'm one of not many people who has actually seen this live. Twice in fact. First time John and Jimmy, and the 2nd time was Jimmy and Diesel. Farnsy and Barnsy together, 3 metres from the stage singing myself hoarse with 2000 other fans. One of the best experiences of my life.

There’s another one they performed together called When the war is over, The concert You reacted to where John performed Help, That was unbelievable songs such as,It’s a long way to the top, playing to win, Burn for you is a great song, Touch of paradise, There’s so many and as you said John can sing anything, I can honestly say I’ve never heard a bad performance from John, what you just seen is what you get, every time he gives his all.

Omg you ladies have to hear John Farnham sing " Help" ( beatles,) " youre the voice" " burn for you" , etc. Awesome voice and Help is the best version I've ever heard. So much emotion and passion and youll see how much the audience loves him. No not classically trained just an amazing voice. Also he is a top guy

Diesel is actually Jimmy’s brother-in-law and is well worth checking out… Cryin’ Shame, Love Junk, 15 Feet of Snow and Man Alive are amongst his biggest hits, but he has a massive back catalogue and is a frickin’ brilliant guitarist 😁

John was actually an apprentice plumber before being 'discovered' as a teenager in the mid 1960's.

John is always best on stage performing live... he loves to perform and it shows!!!

Three things about Barnsey & his band Cold Chisel 1) They tried to break into the USA & were screwed around by the industry. Came back to Aus & wrote the song "You Got Nothing I Want" 2) They refused to go on the biggest Aus music weekly show (Countdown) because they would have had to lip-sync. (they were a pub rock band who refused to fake it) 3) The boys in the band had a bit of a crush on Ita Buttrose (Women's Weekly magazine editor, with a cute lisp), so they wrote the song "Ita" about her. Both these guys started singing from an early age…. Both around 16-17….. John started with an early band Strings Unlimited late 60’s before solo career…. Jimmy with Cold Chisel 1973- till today…. All those singers used to sing live at pubs (bars) Friday and Saturday nights they had no auto tune, that's how many Aussie singers and bands learnt to sing in a noisy pub. 🎶 🎵🎸🎤

John hasn't had training but during his earlyish career did musical stage performances, with top UK actors. This is where I think he learnt to project his voice. Just my opinion.

Hi Girls, Michael from Australia again. So glad you have just seen two of Australia's greatest vocalists. I hope you can do more on them. John usually sings on large venue's. Jimmie has his 0wn band called Cold Chisel.

Australia is unique in that the bands and singers have a small audience to capture, and they had to do it in pubs. That means they had to appeal to everyone so they either mixed genres in the songs, or at least across their sets. If you weren't keen on one song on the night, you used that time to go and grab a drink and by the time you came back 'your' music was playing again. If you didn't like the start of a song, you could probably still hum the tune or sing the chorus, if not ignore it and tune back in again in a couple of minutes.

Those two have more soul than any singer on the charts. The guitar guy is named Diesel. He is the brother in law of Jimmy Barnes

I had this album bloody awesome but car got broken into and it got stolen along with the stereo system, Jimmy Barnes is the lead singer of the band Cold Chisel. John is a bit of a comedian on stage and if you want to see more of that try watching Granada with Anthony Warlow (an opera style song), or Angels live with Lisa Edwards, another John Farnham original. You mention how much fun they seem to be having, they are, you can se they are friends or mate's as we call it in Oz. John always has fun when performing, you only have to watch clips where he talks to his audience or even clips where he is being interviewed, he is a fun guy. I don't know why but every time I hear this song I picture in my mind these 2 sitting around a fire, probably with diesel on guitar, enjoying a few beers the breaking out singing this. And you know .... I think it would sound nearly as good even though they wouldn't have the band. John never had singing lessons and I think it's the same for Jimmy. That's fairly typical for Aussie singers from the 60's on. Most of them started in clubs and pubs and lip syncing would have got them beaten up😄 If a band or singer is crap live they don't last in Australia. Queen was booed off the stage at Sunbury and INXS, as a support band, were yelled at to get off the stage. I didn't see Queen though my brother was there, but I was present for INXS.

Should check out Jimmy Barnes when he was younger and in Cold Chisel, especially Wild thing from the Last Stand concert from 1983. There you'll see Jimmy pissed (drunk) but still giving a brilliant performance.

Dont worry about the haters , they are stupid. Dont know if you have seen Bow River by Cold Chisel but they were one of Australia's best Pub bands and Jimmy Barns was part of it . The 2003 live version is fantastic. For more of John Farnham there is Black Dog to Grenada the opera with Anthony Warlow and a tear jerking love song with Olivia Newton John , Please dont tell me .

No, not trained, that's just them, from the good old days, when you had to be "good" to make it, no auto-tune or lip sinking. They are "good" friends. When Jimmy heard that John had cancer, he flew to be with him... and the Guitarist is Johnny Diesel (Jimmy's brother-in-law and he & his band were also "big" - "Johnny Diesel and the Injectors"). Glad you enjoyed.

Jimmy is from Elizabeth in South Australia a blue collar/rough area of Adelaide, fun fact he briefly replaced Bon Scott in a band called Fraternity when Bon joined AC/DC in the 1970's. Jimmy hit fame with a band called Cold Chisel a really important Australian rock band.

No singing lessons for John, not sure about Jimmy. Whenever I watch a live version of this song. I love the one where John just holds the microphone for Diesel. He doesn’t need one. John is always surprised when someone famous knows who he is. He doesn’t know he is famous and loved. He is always humble and kind. I have been missing for a bit so I don’t know about any hate attacks. Please know I am sorry this happened and it is not usually an Australian thing that happens.
