Tips on eating Balut for beginners: 1. Ask the vendor to give you Balut with the smallest chick. 2. Keep the lights dim, and do not dissect when eating 3. Season your balut with a bit of salt (i prefer it with vinegar, but it's a personal taste) 4. Have a beer onhand to wash it down Have fun!!! 😁

If you really want to try balut, best to eat it in the dark and with as few chews as possible. Next best thing is just sip the fluid inside, which is really savory. And have a go at the yellow part with a few grains of salt. You can completely skip the chick if you get too squeamish. The white part is really tough so that's usually the throwaway as well.

Yep! spoon and fork is what we commonly used maybe because of rice. We would rather use our hands than using fork and knife.

Yes, Spoon and Fork is mostly what only used in public restaurants. But there are also a lot which uses knives and other food utensils like in some fancy restaurants.

We actually call the balut "balot". It just sound like 'balut' because the way we shout it (paglalako) to sell it makes you hear balut instead of balot.

When I was a foreign exchange student in the USA, the family that hosted me thought it was strange that I used spoon and fork. The mom asked me, "hmm, that's how you eat there? Interesting." 🤣

Tbh, balut can be very polarizing. You can try to eat it but I won't take offense if you can't swallow it 'cause as a Filipino, there are times when even I can't muster the courage to eat the entire thing.

If you want to try balut I suggest to try the 14-16days old balut for the embryo is still small and has no feathers and it is barely seen....

One reason why we only use spoon and fork is that food s always cooked thoroughly (everything is well done). This is basic courtesy that if the food is too hard to be cut by spoon and fork and then the food is not prepared well. Also there had been problems with food poisoning from time to time especially before the time of refrigeration.

as for the spoon and fork thing, from the Spanish era they prohibit Filipinos to use knife because they know Filipinos have a skill for knife fighting. this is the story from my masters in arnis but take it as a grain of salt if I'm mistaken

About forks and spoons yes only spoons and forks are used for food here in the Philippines, but many people here use chop sticks only in their homes in fast food and other eateries only spoons and forks are used, but there are also many eateries here are also complete with food utensils especially in expensive restaurants, come and visit philippines

Infrastructures have mushroomed since the filming of this video and the TRAFFIC PROBLEM today is no longer a nightmare. With completion of the country's first SUBWAY STATION am sure traffic problem will soon to be a thing of the past. Check out some more recent videos and you will see the difference between 3-4 years ago and at present.

I think there's a Filipino restaurant in Los Angeles called the Spoon and Pork which has a double meaning: first, because Filipinos eat a lot of pork, and second, because there's no F sound in Filipino languages so many people here pronounce "fork" as "pork."

Idk but I was kinda screaming when I watch others eating balut, if you don't like the yolk and all, you can have it's minimum amount of soup. Put some suka or asin (salt) in it and it's yummy. I know a lot of fellow Filipinos who don't like balut either, dw. My cousin literally only drinks the soup and she gives everything else to me lmao
