I am argentinian and I don t remember a better World Cup . It just compared to Mexico 86 vith Diego Maradona... But this World Cup had something especial... Messi is beloved all over the world... What is important to know is that-peak age for a footballer is 28-30 maybe 32 years old at most. There are notable exceptions but to carry your country to a World Cup quite a few years after your supposed peak is just phenomenal..a feat of skill and endurance that is very very rare

About DI María. He was known to be playing with a muscle overload. So if you pay attention he has played for 30 minutes , max. So scaloni usually chooses to put put him the last 30m. So this time he chooses to put him to start, he decided to leave him 40m instead of 30 because he was at his moment. If he had chooses to let him playing yeah the game woyld have stayed amazing , but he could have end his career, he is not a baby . Also the game also changed as france did some changes. The argument about Cr7 doing it in different leagues compared to Messi is the biggest fallacy in football. He was going to the biggest teams with the best chances to win the CL. Messi staying with Barcelona, the vagaries of football over that long a period of time actually lessened his chances of winning more CL's because one team will have peaks and troughs. If CR7 did what Maradona did, NOT go to a Juventus or Milan but Napoli, a team that was fighting a relegation battle the season before and taking them to the top of European football, when the UEFA cup was a big trophy, and winning two Scudettos when they had never ever won one prior, that was an incredible achievement

To answer your question about why Di Maria was removed, it was a communication error. Scaloni was attentive throughout the game in case Di Maria felt bad and regularly asked him how he was doing. In the last check-up, they misunderstood each other and Scaloni thought that Di Maria was asking him to be taken out because he was exhausted.
