Ahh, I see you got the version from Channel 4 with the semi-spoiler insert, it doesn't give away the plot but does spoil the scene somewhat. A few reactors seem to have this version. Hopefully you guys enjoy the series as we certainly will watching along. Some of Richard Ayoade's best work [not to downplay his other projects, that I also enjoy]. And yes, that's the guy from 'Bridesmaids'. 😅

Good series. It was originally meant to be called the eye tee crowd according to the writers, but some called it the it crowd anyway. The boss Reynholm is played by Chris Morris, whose series Brass Eye and The Day Today are works of utter genius themselves.

I was really impressed with Chris Morris when I found out he helped write and direct Four Lions. His humour and story telling is real nitty and gritty, he somehow finds a way of bringing both sorrow and joy together in a single scene. Which I find fascinating and inspiring

@@oe4927 Heh, forgot about Four Lions! His humour isn't for everyone. I find juxtaposition hilarious, but some get confused at what I'm laughing at. It's not the subject that's funny, quite the opposite usually, but the situation.

The building they show as the offices is on Thomas Moore Square just to the east of the Tower of London and St Katherine Docks (I know this as I worked in ST K docks at one point and there was an Asda supermarket there I used to get lunch from sometimes)

Rumour has it that there was a call to tech support from someone that had recently purchased a computer. Having gone through the snag list, the tech support was none the wiser as to what the problem was. "So, when was the last time that the computer was working?", the reply: "About 20 minutes ago, just before the power cut". "oh, I see, I now know what the issue is. What you need to do, is repack the computer in its box, and take it back to the store, and find the person that sold you the computer" "And what do I tell him?" This sort of makes more sense now that laptops are probably used more than desktops, and even have equivalent functionality (except for games maybe). A person can be using a laptop and be barely affected by a power cut, whereas a desktop crashes out immediately..

I was actually working in IT in a big office when this came out. We changed our answer phone to say “Hello IT, is it plugged in? Have you tried turning it off then on again?” Saved about 40% of our time

You you are spot on, technically turning off and on does usually fix a lot of problems, however... As far as Windows goes, unless you disable 'fast startup' in power settings, Windows 11 (possibly even in earlier OS's) doesn't _actually_ fully shut down when you turn it off and on again. A restart would be better, or like I say disable the 'fast startup'. This was recorded likely before that function though. I have mine disabled... tbh I don't think the 'fast startup' is even all that faster!

My top 3 British comedies...number 2 'The IT Crowd', joint number 1 'Only fools and horses and Still Game...like Still Game and Only Fools The IT Crowd gets better and better and you're gonna love it. Moss is by far my favourite character. Chris O'Dowd (the Irish guy) was in bridesmaids but he was also in a couple of the Thor movies and a little known but brilliant movie called 'Frequently asked questions about time travel'.

Keep an eye on the stuff on their shelves , a lot of it was achingly cool back in the day , look up Urban Vinyl , plus lots of other cool things , the Sinclair ZX Spectrum , 48 K one of the first mass market home computers from the 1980s in the UK

A story from an IT professional currently working in support (this happened literally this week): We had a client's server go down, this client has their office 4 hours drive away. The server had shut down due to a power cut in the area and simply needed turning on (simple press of the button). After about an hour between myself and my manager trying to direct the client on how to switch the server on, whom at this stage was adamant it was on and was "faulty", we decided to send a technician on the long 4 hour drive to his office... to press a single button... and drive back. Needless to say that client got billed the full fuel, time and food for that technician for that day. If ever you wonder why us IT professionals can seem curt and grumpy at times, just remember the above. We deal with the types of people in the office world that should not be allowed near technology on a daily basis.
