OK, here is the comment from a Russian guy who had to eat A LOT of this stuff back in the day. Russian MREs sometime before 2012 were REALLY good. Tasty, lots of calories, great choice. Except for crackers, they were always terrible, we used to call the "wolf's cookies" (волчьи пряники), but you use them as a makeshift spoons to eat other food or with jam. After 2012, I think, the quality went downhill, but the good news are - I don't have to eat this shit anymore.

Having worked with MANY Russians (both adults & children) at a (mostly) Slavic charter school, i can attest they are charming and very nice people. A bit hard to get to know at first, but one you do they are some of the best friends you will ever have. Their cooking and culinary skills are fantastic and they are very generous with pretty much anything they have. The MREs may not be to our taste, but i can assure you , if their military issues it, it has to be pretty good for it's intended purpose.

Each time this man shows his disrespect to this food i has flashbacks of siege of Leningrad with cutted supply lines. To survive people eaten construction glue, shoes and belts from leather and tree bark, everything that can contain any calories. Mothers feed their babies with their own blood to give them at least something that can keep them alive. And people lived with this condition for 3 years, under bombing in city where almost whole year is winter, don't give up and keep fighting untill they win. And after I scrolled this in my head i see this gentleman from Alabama doing what his doing. Ofc he can have any opinion he want. If he thinks that this is dog food okay. But i also have opinion about him, negative one. Btw this MRE not supposed to eat cold that's why there matches and heaters inside, and that's why they are in metal containers, to you can warm it under fire.

It would be better if you HEAT up the things with meat in it and stir it up as its cooking. before eating it. The Liver Pate or Pashtet as its pronounced in Russian, can be eaten Cold or warm. Best served Cold.

The food tastes like @$$ until you heat it up, then the fat melts and it's delicious. I'd take one of those over a veggie omelette MRE any day.
