gottagobideo well i wasn't enjoying the thai snacks when i arrived there as a tourist, but if i would talk about food that tom-yam (i don't know how it is writen) soup was spicy and absolutely delicious.
Come on... Curry Puff isn't Thai! It's sold in Thailand but it doesn't mean it's Thai! It's mostly a Malaysian/Singaporean snack. Saying Curry Puff is Thai is like saying that America sells Unagi Bento and that makes it a American food.
What do you mean no way? Curry Puffs are more well known in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia but not Thailand. Sure. Thailand sold it but the real one the ones that are more well-known for Curry Puffs are Singapore and Malaysia. Go to Malaysia and every roadside stall sells Curry Puff while it's big Singapore food stalls such as Old Chang Kee are the one that spreads Curry Puff elsewhere.
There's no difference of making curry puffs nationally. There's just a variety of stuff of making it and I still won't call Thailand as the land of curry puffs as I've never seen any shop that sells it every time I'm in Thailand but instead in Malaysia and Singapore, they're everywhere.
Im a Malaysian its kinda offensive when they say curry puffs are Thai snacks. Sure they sell curry puffs in Thailand but its not Thai snacks. Its like having Spaghetti at Malaysia/Singapore then we claim like "Hey its our food"
I'm Thai but who else thinks this. The Americans are really picky from every food i see em eat, I was not even this picky when i was a baby eating Thai food
I'm Thai and I can tell you that Durian Snacks is worth trying too, no joke! It's not a fresh durian like most people think. It's fried and crispy durian. I brought some of them to my friends in Australia. They made a weird face when I introduced it to them and no body wanted to try it at all so I left it on the table. 2 hours later, I walked back to find an empty dish. You can't judge it by its stereotype!
Well yes, if it is the fried one. Canned and preserved durians may taste weird overtime you store them. If you are a durian lover, I still recommend you to get the fresh one.
Really, thai people shouldn't take offense to this and neither should anyone who's snacks are being tried by people from other countries. Their just saying what they think about the food. If you like it, good for you. That doesn't mean everyone else has to like it too. The only thing that gets on my nerves, is when the people say "thai food sucks and therefore thai people suck" or "these american snacks are really sugary so that means all americans are fat" I hate when people say that PS. I am an american like if you agree
The problem isn't them trying the food. It's fine to try other cultural food, but it's the way they (some of them) are expressing their thoughts. It's way over rude, they could at least be cautious of the way they say stuff
That moment when you're trying to order Thai food over the phone, but her accent is so thick that you just give up and make yourself a bowl of Cheerios.
I'm Egyptian, and i suggest you to try these foods: Koshri (Rice with some other random things and a sauce) Wark Enab (Rice too , but its in a leaf , Thats in the grape tree) Molokhya (Its Some kind of a sauce or kinda off , Just search it :) ) Basbosa (its a type of desert , and it tastes so amazing , Hope u will try it :) and lastly , the Konafa ( its a desert to , Tastes , cant get enough of it :) . Makaronah bel bashaml It's macaron but with an amazing white sauce and minced flavoured meat on top, im sure they would like it :). Shawarma (Meat with amazing spices and its eaten in your favourite kind of Bread :). I hope they could try it Thanks BuzzFeed :) !
oh oh totally down with that! im always curious with that round food i keep seeing in almost all bollywood movies but its always translated as 'sweets' . so i dont really know whats the name of that food, but they oughtta try that :D
OG BassDropzz hey, is Thailand people handsome and nice? Especially at 17-22 years old? I'm planning to marry one lmao. I see Malay and Thai makes beautiful children ;D
Ok you go eat an almost hatched baby duck, chicken feet, and live octopus legs, and see if you'll be hesitate with what you eat from another country lol
America= continent... Well, in the USA there are markets of everything, that literally sells everything. But that doesnt mean people go there and try that stuff (This comment doesnt answer any question, you can take it whatever you want)
Pardon me? I said America, i never said anything about americans. Where did you get "american" from? According to you its two things very different so why did you thought i meant american when i clearly said America. I j was just giving a fact, it would be exactly the same if i said "Africa is a continent" now, you fck off
We do have shrimp snacks and majority of the snacks shown in buzzfeed are imported to the US. I see them sold all the time in the stores just down my street. But I think buzzfeed tries to find people in their office who've never tried/seen the snacks before.
Out of all of those.. Strawberry cake, a thai snack? Well you definitely played those Americans! firstly did you notice how the packaging was in English and so was the shrimp crackers. You could pick up all of those snacks at any asian store, all over Asia and in Europe! They sell those nuts in Morrisons in England! It's pretty common! Whoever chose these snacks is not educated on thai food at all; not even relatively related to Thailand. Rubbish video.
Actually one thing you better learn about Thai is - WE ARE NOT USING CHOPSTICKS, WE USE " SPOON and FORK " except we eat noodles. Come on guys, there aren't every Asian use chopsticks. 😏😏😏
Hi dear I'm thai and just to point out that those you referred to are not 'traditional' thai snacks. we know how to make them and they're quite popular in thai culture, yes. But they're actually portuguese's.
darkshadowB4TH I know very well that its roots are portugese but we've converted them into our own, Do not forget that they were the one who taught us thais how to bake with eggs, traditional thai sweets before our contact with the portugese rarely has eggs in it.They gave us their technique in which we used to invent our own sweets. You pointed out that we know how to make them, then i must ask how many portugese knows how to make the exact tong yip tonng yorn that we have in thailand? And to what degree? Apart from them teaching us how to make sweets with eggs and us assimilating some portugese sweets, i'm going to say it's pretty traditional.
ppyporpeem i agree to begin with thai people aren't even thai if you have read about our history we're made up of many many cultures and and nationalities. And this was not just from ayudhya period it was wayyyyyy back in the iron ages! so we're just a mix of god knows what lol. Anyway anything born in thailand is considered thai :D
nachon33 Someone who understands! we are a mix of culture(and so is pretty much everything) it's impossible to make claim of something that had diverged so much from a common point in time :3
Haha you're ignorant if you think all Americans don't eat healthy. In many states there are loads of people who eat healthy. America has the biggest fitness channels for RU-vid. Many are in unbelievable shape and I highly doubt you have anything more than an average physique but who knows.
Michael Teixeira Even if you live in the cities in the U.S. you can eat healthy by buying local produce at the Farmer's Markets. They always have great deals.
ShawolSecretTime you do indeed. I'm the fatty in the middle. this pic was taken when i visited the states to attend a wedding. the original comment was just a joke at the stereotype that Americans only eat mcdonalds and other junk
So Synergestic, as a toddler, you never stuck anything in your mouth? As a preteen, nothing has ever flown into your mouth? As a teen, none of your friends prankes you into biting into something that was not what you thot it was? In college, no one ever dared you to stick something in your mouth that normally doesn't go there? Boy, you've either lived a very boring sheltered life, or you are just a dumbfook with no memory or sense of judgement...
Isabel Cueto thats true, and most of the people wouldn't know how to prepare it, so maybe its better to keep it simple so normal people can enjoy it too
+samuel Kapelle the indonesian spelling is kerupuk. and it's spelled keu-roo-pook. kroepoek is just old dutch spelling from the time dutch colonizing indonesia. keep it simple? you just need to fry it for a few secs and it's ready. smh.
How can you be offended by FOOD? Quit being so sensitive, they aren't used to the different flavors and I couldn't blame them, I'm Thai and I took absolutely no offense to this. It's FOOD.
I want them ALL! Not because they all sound good, but because I am hungry. I would totally buy them if there was a link in the description. There should be some kind of service that sends you little boxes of treats from all over the world every month. Kinda like a bark box, but for people.
I literally said this last week! Someone needs to start up a business where you sign up for monthly boxes and get sent snacks from around the world; I'm glad I'm not the only one who would totally do something like that :D
There is something like that! :) www.trytheworld.com/ In this site if you subscribe you'll receive a gourmet box from a different country every two months! If I'm not wrong the owner of the site is Doe Deere's sister :)
Phadungsit Khamsai I enjoy Thai food. And I mean the real Thai food, not the Americanized version. My ex husband's aunt makes amazing Thai food (and not cause she is Thai)
Phadungsit Khamsai my ex husband's aunt owns a Thai restaurant in Huntington Beach CA, she opened it not long after moving to the states from Thailand. All the cooks are Thai so they make it legit.
I go to Thailand a fair bit, and I seriously haven't seen most of these snacks except for the peanuts and the shrimp chips (which are more generally South East Asian than just Thai). Should have given them something with Tom Yam flavouring ;)
Pocky is not very good to be honest, it's really low quality chocolate. For some strange reason the Western version called Mikado taste better yet it belong to the same company. Maybe because the Japanese version is not made with Swiss or Belgian chocolate...
Well I mean America covered pizza in the amount of cheese that is regular here. So...I don't think I'd want real italian pizza, if they even still make it. Cheese is good.
I'M THAI AND I DON'T FIND THIS OFFENSIVE. THEY'VE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE, SO I'M NOT SURPRISE IF THEY DON'T KNOW TO DESCRIBE THEM. IT'S CULTURE DIFFERENCES; THAI PEOPLE LIKES BECAUSE WE ARE BORN AND USED TO IT. NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO HAVE THE SAME TASTE, SO CALM DOWN THAI FELLOWS (THAT OFFENDED BY THIS).
Oh, man. You should have had them try those gelatinous rice-cube snacks. I never knew their name, but that taste is . . . unique, I suppose. Other kinds of snack-cakes too: it's hilarious when you bite into one and there's almost nothing inside despite the picture. Oh, and those snacks that are nothing but a slice of bread with something smeared on it: anything from fake, earthy chocolate to fish jerky.
That's modern Thai snacks. You guys should try the original Thai snacks back in the day. lol, you guys won't like it. I don't like most of them except for like coconut milk ice cream or something.
***** Yeah your probably right. And I have been to Thailand many times.I never seen any of the Thai people eating any of this. I see them eating those pancake crape things alot.
I'm an American living in Thailand. I'd love to see a video of Americans trying pla ra...if you could keep them sitting near it long enough to film. :D
I'm Thai and I didn't know that strawberry cake is Thai snack I thought that's a forgin snack Anyway, we call that strawberry cake "Euro castard cake" my favorite is curry puff
Linny Gorissen Dutch call it kroepoek because it is Indonesian/Malaysian. Like how you call fried rice as nasi. I'm Malaysian and l live in Holland for almost 2 years. There are many Indonesian words used in Holland. :)
I'm Thai and some of snacks that you showed are not original Thai food. HEY!! I think you should try to eat some original Thai food. I want to look at their face!! (I mean they are also delicious.) 😂😂😂
Joe Busse This is why I don't like Hollywood television. they don't put enough effort into research and when they do and decide to go another way they tend to make it feel like a rip off. Decency where art thou in Hollywood TELEVISION?!
