There's a lot of similar flavors between Mexican cuisine and a lot of Southeast Asian cuisines. The lime, chili's, Cilantro, mangoes, etc. Imo it would be a low hanging fruit for fusion cuisine to combine them.
@ccroww white washed meaning light a cream looking yeah. Alot of thai restaurants in the states water down the curries and cater to a more white/non thai palate because they believe those groups of people can't handle the spice. It's kinda sad.
For Laotians, I believe it’s mostly sticky rice. But for Thai, we go with jasmine rice most of the time. Some dishes go better with sticky rice so we pair them with it. Thai culture was actually influenced by so many neighboring countries’ cultures so we have a lot of shared cultures with SEA and East Asian countries. For example, there’s a lot of Chinese descents here so our most common sources of carb are rice and noodles. Some of my friends can eat noodles everyday. lmao Most of us stick to jasmine rice 2-3 meals a day though. 😊
@@HolsteinDevil ooooh yes that’s very true!! i feel like with sticky rice or jasmine rice it would’ve enhanced the flavors better, we definitely need a redo of this taste testing haha
@@HolsteinDevil It's usually Jasmine Rice for central Thai dishes. Sticky rice is mainly North Eastern Thai (Esaan) dishes which are very similar to Lao dishes. North Western Chiang Mai region also eat sticky rice but not as much, their dishes have more influences from neighbouring Burma/Myanmar.
@robertoestrada20ot all Indians I’m Indian (well Indian-American), and I love beef! It’s only really Indians who are observant or very religious Hindus who don’t eat beef. My dad is Hindu and Indian, but he’s not very religious at all - and until he started having problems with his teeth (and thus difficulty chewing certain kinds of meat), he used to love beef too! Whereas, my mom is Indian and pretty religious Hindu and she’s been vegetarian since 1981 - and though she eats eggs, dairy, and honey, she doesn’t eat any other animal products like meat, poultry or seafood. Basically, Hinduism prohibits eating beef, but it depends on the individual person and their beliefs, and how religious and observant or not religious and observant they are!
@@Ica688 as you can see closely. The lettuce leaf was put in the side purposely for them to wrap it like a taco like any other Lao/Thai restaurants do when they serve laaab gai to the customer
Some of the dishes were missing their traditional accompaniments, or rather those dishes were the accompaniments meant to be eaten with rice to mellow out the spicy and other flavours. - "Tom Kha Kai" is typically eaten with Jasmine rice - "Laabs" are typically eaten with sticky rice - "Som Tam" also typically eaten with sticky rice
Being Thai and growing up in Los Angeles with lots of Latino friends, I can say that Thai food and Mexican food has a very similar flavor note: Salty, Spicy and most importantly Sour. Perfecto!
The thing that's interesting is that Mexican cuisine and SE Asian cuisine like Vietnamese and Thai we use a lot of the same ingredients. We put them together in different ways, but our ingredients are the same. Chilies, lime, cilantro, tamarind etc.
@@hughw2377 we do use a lot of the same ingredients in Vietnamese food. But then we also have French influence too, but we definitely use cilantro, limes, chillies, and such
Aww they’re so adorable❤️ I’m Thai and I LOVE Mexican food. It’s really difficult to find good Mexican restaurants here in Thailand. Most easily accessible ones are just Taco Bell and Sunrise Tacos which are okay but not really that good. I used to be an exchange student to the US and it’s kinda funny that sometimes what I miss the most from my experience in the US is Mexican food. lmao
I thought they started to import foods from Mexico in bangkok now? I could be wrong but thats what I saw in someone's travel vlog not long ago. But anyways between me and you i wouldn't want mexican food in thailand anyways just like I wouldn't want thai food in Mexico. There's a certain essence and kick that the 2 people bring to those cuisines. So I'm very old fashioned when it comes to that. 😅
hey im a mexican guy, and i just did a little google map search for bangkok to look at what mexican food is being offered, aaaaand, there is actually quite a few places, but most of them look like expensive hipster places that are not authenthic. buuuuut, this place called "cholols BBK" looks pretty good, based on the pictures, if i went there, i woudl order the birria tacos , the pictures for those looked pretty legit
I can find better Mexican food in Thailand than here in Hawai'i. And in general, Thai food sucks here too. It is not easy and/or too expensive for Thai restaurants to get all of the necessary spices here.
I'm sure they would be excited to know that the pad thai is made with tamarind to give out its sweet and sour flavors. Tamarindo is popular in Mexico, just smaller than what grows in Thailand.
Depends on how it is made. Sometimes it is plain sticky rice with condensed milk on top and sometimes they stir the condensed milk and coconut into the rice. The latter is much better, particularly for stuffing jackfruits.
I said it before and I’ll say it again Mexicans and Central Americans think we’re hard core because we love chilies and hot sauce, BUT…. The day I tried Thai food I was sweating in places I normally never sweat while eating Mexican food like my nose 👃… Thai food is super delicious, but they know how to sneak attack you the chilies that you don’t really smell or taste at first bite… the salad I had was sooooo good like Lucy said “you want to grab more, but it’ll hurt” and yes that salad had me crying because it was soooo good that I couldn’t but it down but it hurt soooo badly 😋😭😭😭😭🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
Foreigners never believe me when I tell them how I’ve never seen any nation enjoy spiciness on a regular basis more than Thai people. They would say other countries have the types of pepper/chili that are spicier than Thai bird eyes. Well, we don’t just use a few when we cook though. We use at least a handful each dish. lmao When I was an exchange student I told everyone that I don’t like spicy food that much cause I don’t like being tortured. But when I had spicy food they were so confused cause I could handle spiciness better than most people. I had to tell them that I don’t like Thai level of spiciness but other countries’ level is fine for me. 😂
As a Thai, I'm soooo glad Lucy pointed out how red curry should be and not the over-creamed, grey sauce that you sometimes find in thai restaurants abroad. Next time do the street food combis! Like thai grilled chicken, som tam and sticky rice! THAT'S how thais have their salads usually...
You know it's an absolute win when Thai food makes Mexican Mama say “It's too hot and spicy" despite their local food being mostly spicy. As a Thai myself I'm proud. ❤ AND I LOVE SPICY TACOS!
@@SV-kr9fu But what about the rain they need to water your plants man oh that’s right the movie impossible tsunamis but there hasn’t been a tsunami every since the movie came out in 2015 I think 🌊
The Laab looked kinda flavorless lol. I wish they were instructed to try it with lettuce and pork rinds because that’s how a lot of Thai people eat it. We also take bites of chili after every bite, even when there’s already chili cooked into it🤣
I think they probably ask for recommendations when they order from resturants. And maybe for the Filipinos one they didn't tell them it had to be with rice ?. Idk just a guess 😅
@@justice.01997 they served adobo chicken without rice and also Kare Kare which are always served with it. Then lumpia or egg roll without sauce. Usually all Asian entrees are served with rice.
Problem is majority of Thai food found abroad is nothing like the one we serve in Thailand. I don't understand the point of changing the recipes until almost unrecognizable. We had to adjust it to their taste, they say. But foreigners that come to Thailand love the original flavors...
I've been watching this channel for 3 years and didn't realize until now that Lucy has a peanut allergy. What a shame. Another great video and the similarities between Thai and Mexican food in ingredients make it a natural for both to love the food of the other. I know for a fact that Pakistanis adore Mexican food and I love watching these cross cultural experiences. Lastly, Thai food in general is amazing and I'd recommend everyone to try Angry Chicken, if they see this dish on a Thai restaurant menu. It leaves this beautiful warm glow in the mouth.
@@chdreturnsshe just has to be careful and know that it's in there and she makes the decision as to how much is in there and does it in moderation if you notice. There's sometimes one will be eating something and you'll clearly see that she does not try it because she knows that that definitely could set it off
I have been waiting for them to try food. All the dishes made my mouth water, especially the Mango Sticky Rice 😍 Pad Thai is so delicious 🤤 a bit jealous of the fact I have not tried any of the other dishes yet, still waiting for I go to Thailand to do so. And the fact that Thai food is probably more spicy than Mexican food due to all the chilies they put in there 🥵 still worth it tho‼️
The Thai government actually sponsors and regulates a LOT of Thai restaurants overseas to help with quality and authenticity, so you would probably be fine ordering them at a Thai restaurant :)
@@Ica688 I have had tried Thai food before and it was absolutely delicious 😍and I live in the United States, but I also heard that Thai food at restaurants in the U.S is not really authentic due to there not being some ingredients you would use in Thailand to make the food in the U.S
@@abbyortiz132 : You have to find a Thai friend that would take you to that hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant. In the U.S., most Thai restaurants have to lower the flavorful taste and the spiciness of the foods in order to cater to general American palate (they need to make money).
This is great, i live in thailand and have been introducing my kids to Mexican foods.....plus we have been making "thai tacos" tacos make with thai fillings. The 2 food cultures actually have a lot to offer each other....we live in nth isaan so we eat a lot of chili's, we would probably give Mexico a run for heat and spiciness but Mexico has more different chili's.
My absolute fave reviews are from the Mexican aunties and uncles, because They share honest , fair & complimentary opinions. There's no hate or judgement if the flavours disagree with their pallette. ❤
tbh these werent nice looking thai dishes used here..The Pad Thai looked so sad, I was about to cry. Most of the dishes were eaten wrong way which is to me very important when trying new foods..Tom Kha is supposed to be eaten with rice, Som Tam comes allng with sticky rice and grilled meat etc. would you do another thai video pls😂 the right way??
Why does the food look so..colorless? I love Thai food and how vibrant the colors and tastes are. This looks so drab and sad 🙁 hopefully it tasted better than it looked.
Hi 👋 from Thailand 🇹🇭 😊 , I love seeing all 3 Mexican Moms enjoying our food. Wish I could make you guys a home cook ones and yes we will make it less spicy for you just ask the papaya salad's seller how many chilli for beginners I would recommend 1 and when you feel more adventurous go 5 but be warn even for me tiny Thai chilli are very spicy😅
Love love Thai food laarb, green papaya salad and sticky rice my favorite 😍 I got hungry just watching lucky for me my husband works in a Thai restaurant can't wait 🤤😋
as a Thai, we also love Mexican food, i have tried Mexican food in Bangkok and i love it, the taste have 3 main flavors salty sour and sweet same as Thai food. WeThai❤ Mexican.
I’m surprised they didn’t include Tom Yum Goong or spicy basil which are just as popular as Pad Thai in Thailand. Spicy basil is probably the go to dish for most Thais if they’re looking for something that’s quick, easy, delicious, and classic. You simply cannot go wrong wit it tbh. But anyways, Thai food is really DA BEST PERIOD. 😂❤
Now serve them Durian Sticky Rice.😆 Btw, I thought Mexicans eat spicy and more spicy food since they got ghost pepper of all kinds. We in Thailand Malaysia & Indonesia normally eat Bird Eyed Chilli for most of the menu.
Eating Thai food tips... 1) usually in Thai culture, the main dish for each ones is a plate of RICE, other KABKHAO* are for sharing in a meal. 2) simply use SPOON and FORK together is the most efficient way of eating. spoon in your dominant hand. 3) fetch small amount of kabkhao to your rice dish for one or two gulp at a time. don't be hurry, don't do buffet vibe. 4) use fork to push a scoop of rice and stuffs into spoon for one gulp, then eat it. any strong tasty food will be mildly taste in your mouth. 5) in case of eating noodles, using chopstick is better, but spoon and fork pairs is still effective. *KABKHAO = foods for eat together with RICE Tom Kha Kai - kabkhao // salty and little sour light white soup with chicken and herbs, pepper spicy, strong lemongrass and coconut milk smell. Red Curry - kabkhao // salty and spicy curry look because of coconut milk, red color got from chilly mixed with other herbs paste. Laab Gai - kabkhao // salty and sour grounded chicken mixed with challots and roasted grind-rice grains. Som Tam - kabkhao / appetizer // sweet salty sour and spicy salad of green papaya mixed with long bean, peanuts, tomatoes, and dried shrimps. (actually there are plenty of som tam flavours/types in Thailand) Pad Thai - main dish // salty and little sweet & sour fried noodles in tamarind sauce, mixed with tofu, dried shrimps, bean sprouts, and peanuts. Mango Sticky Rice - dessert // coconut milk steamed sticky rice, pour a little salty coconut milk sauce on top, serves with sweet mangoes.
Without exaggeration, what I miss the most about the US is their foods, especially the Mexican and Chinese. They are so authentic, not like these Americanized Thai dishes here lol (with love from🇹🇭)
Love seeing these beautiful young ladies and their very good opinions, both have cultures that have similar spices to Spanish roots because of the spice trade from asia and for to see them love this food the way they did just shows how close we really are together
You didn't do these meals justice the Pad Thai and red curry looked horrible and the papaya salad should have lit their mouths on fire. I agree with the woman that thinks Thai food is the best from a Mexican man living in Thailand.
