I have a degree in Memeology true I still hated it though cause me another person were it one day and we were the only ones playing and our band director needed us to be able to play it 💀
dude my director gave us this today and istg its making me wanna quit flute…. i’m also a freshman so i basically just came out of simple music to this crap 💔
I loved playing this march at circus tempo. It's a wonderful exciting march that really makes you feel good while playing it. Any of Fillmore's pieces gave the musicians a workout which made his marches so much fun to play as well as entertaining the audience.
Our high school band played this and on the day of the concert we played it about 20 clicks faster than we ever had Some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing a march!
When I was in high school the final strain of this was our Fight Song and it was played in its entirety at graduation. It's a difficult march but sounds amazing when done right.
When I was in marching band, we performed this arrangement at the Indiana State Fair Band Day contest and placed 3rd. Of course, two days before, we won a band contest in Greenville, Ohio, and won the sweepstakes and a traveling trophy too.
We played this at Central Michigan at the end of our set, and for some reason it just hit right. The reception by the audience was supercharged. We were the lowest band in the system (Symphonic? Concert? I never knew how those names were ranked. But we were definitely not the wind ensemble.), and our conductor (Jack Saunders) was even surprised by the response. It just struck a chord.
I don't ever recall hearing this played as a "screamer" like some of Karl King's marches. Usually it's at the tempo used here. It's much better when you can distinctly hear ALL the parts. I remember playing it this way when I was in the school band.
We played this in our spring concert in high school last year. It's still one of my favorite songs and if I could, I'd play it in all my concerts. I play trombone.
Es una alegria esuchar estas marchas llenas de alegria dinamismo color es fantastico lo bien grabadas es decir todo muy bien felicidades a los colegas Americnos que nos brindan con tan buena musica saludos desde España
Yeah, it's supposed to be around 150-160. If I recall correctly, it's what's referred to as a "circus march", and those kinds of marches MOVE ALONG, faster than what an average march would be. But, hey, if your band can't handle it at that speed, better to play it at a speed they CAN handle. Better to play it at a slower tempo and be all together and have a good sound than to play it as fast as it's written and sound horrible.
Is the roll of at the end in the score or was that added in? I know that people do it for Stars and Stripes but I didn't think Americans We had a roll off in it.
My one complaint is that the tempo seems to drag a bit. Really superb playing. The percussion do seem to overpower the winds at the trio, but that's a minor flaw. I LOVE Henry Fillmore. I send a message to upper winds at the first time of the trio with the countermelody, play louder. This is your chance to shine. The Trumpets and other brass instruments get the second time. It really bothers me that there is no stinger.
The reason the percussion overpower in the first trio is because when ever Fillmore preformed it while marching the percussion would play on the first trio, unlike when you here it in a concert hall.
Erik Wallace The last note getting repeated at the end. Listen to the end of a march and if the last note gets repeated that's a stinger. Try stars and stripes
Ohh okay okay, yeah Im playing this in Band( I'm a high school junior in percussion) I never heard that used before. But if you want to hear a stinger, listen to the recording on JW Pepper.com
The Flute and Piccolo parts for this song though, the Piccolo has to play one of its highest notes, which is above the staff, so does Flute, but its easier to play it on the Flute.
