Basically any hit by the Cardigans would be considered a Swedish classic. "Lovefool", and "Erase / Rewind" are the two that spring to mind. They had pretty decent international success though, so maybe you already heard them back in the day.
When we talk about E-type we have to talk about Nana Hedin. The woman with the great voice that almost ever was shown on stage or in the videos. She wasn’t consider sexy enough because of her overweight. She is the voice in almost all of E-types songs but on stage the dancer Dee lip-syncs. She has also been singing with Britney Spears, Celine Dion and other famous artists.
Some Swedish Eurotechno classics from the 90's: Pandora - Trust me Dr. Alban - It's my life or Sing Hallelujah Basic Element - Promised man Flexx - Wake up Look Twice - Move that body Drömhus - Stjärna på himmelen Cool James and Black Teacher - Dr. Feelgood Melodie MC - Anyone out there or Give it up Antique - Opa opa
E-Type has his voice as kind of a signature of his songs, most of his music is great and I agree that his voice is the weak part, but the rest, in my opinion, makes up for it. The other signers have great voice and the melody is supreme in most of his songs, as well as the general production of it all. I hope you dive more into E-Type as almost every song he makes is good.
Once you've heard one song by E-type, you've heard them all 'cause they all sound pretty much the same. He "talk-sings" the verses and then the girl comes in to sing the chorus. Same beat, same buildup, just different lyrics and some different sounds around. To me this is not a bad thing, I love E-type and I have several of his songs on my playlist. But to like him, of course you have to like this genre and also accept that he is not a singer of classic standard. A great music maker though.
Know that E-Types father was a very popular host on TV, for “Vetenskapens Värld”. One of the fathers big interests was Birka. So the son founded a Viking themed restaurant: Aifur. Quite good actually! .
3:30 This is one of the few music videos that prolific back up singer Nanna Hedin (look her up on wiki) appear in, herself. Usually her voice is just lip synced by backup dancers and she's never to be seen. Sadly she got TONGUE cancer, of all things. Don't think she sings professionally anymore.
Do DaBuzz - Alive! 😀 (or any other of their big ones, really) Also, Cue - Burnin!! Edit: Lägger till Vacker Utan Spackel med Joakim Hillson, till viktiga klassiker 😅
In the mid 90s this song was the coolest thing I had ever heard as a young music lover. 😊 E-type is still doing live shows and usually with a real live band which is rare for this kind of music.
But now soon you may be ready for something from Galenskaparna och After shave? They are two groups that joined together almost 40 years ago, humor and music successfully mixed. They've made shows, TV-series, movies, you name it. Their huge break through was with the TV-series Macken 1986, about two brothers running a gas and service station and all kinds of funny caracters stop by with different erronds. Their songs are "silly songs with quality". Try for example "Det är vattenpumpen, Gerd" from Macken, this guy calling his wife to tell that he will be late because his car broke down and has to be fixed. True classic! "Bara sport" is also a suggestion.
Cool and very entertaining to hear you react to E-types quite unic sound and “singing voice”. 😅 I loved you face expression when Martin started speak-singing 😂. Priceless 🤣. (Perhaps you should have started with his biggest hit “This is the way” - but this was more fun I think ..with the tacky dated video and all 😆)
I wouldn't call this a classic. I find it weird this was suggested to you. There are way more famous E-Type songs, like Life, This Is The Way, Angels Crying etc. Never even heard of this one haha. With his songs, you kinda have to forget about his part weirdly enough because obviously the girls singing are alot better 😆
It was very popular back when it was released and like Mackan wrote it was their break-through. I think it's arguably more of a classic than Angels crying, even though I like that song.
In every other Eurodance song from that time they had a guy rapping the verses, usually poorly but no one cared, and a girl singing the chorus. E-Type instead opted for this monotonous singing in the verses. Sometimes I wonder if he's trying to rap, but can't quite do it, and this is the result. I do think it works for this type of music, but I honestly don't think he would have found the same success in regular pop music.
If you can do this one you have to do Trance Dance - You're gonna get it. You will get a laugh, though it was very poplular in the 80-ies and a much better song.
Never heard of Sara Löfgren and when listening to "Starkare" I don't recognize it either. And when looking at who she is, it seems she started in a docu soap and came in at 7:th place in melodifestivalen, that's pretty much all she have ever done. I think it's pretty safe to say that one is definately not a swedish classic. Someone have duped you there. E-type? Yeah. That's about it. Tons of songs that are quite similar. Work(ed) perfectly in a club, would never listen to it outside of one. :)
I remember when this song came out. Everyone said the same things as you did: Not really my type of music, but this song is ok. Still not my type of music, but there's something about E-type. I read that he played rock music, but then he wanted to become more commercial and started to do "eurodance".
You've got to understand the "thing" about it... As "dansband" or any music particerly for dancing, it has not a big quality for listening only. A dancy beat and catchy melody is almost all of what is important. By that perspective, I think E-type did a descent job.
E-Type - Free Like A Flying Demon is just a masterpiece. Russian Lullaby is really good as well, but you can just choose and pick one and it will be good. This is one of those artists that just turns everything into gold - except his voice. I think Free Like A Flying Demon is the one exception, he actually uses his own unaltered voice which is nice to hear :) (at some parts of the song he's using his real voice, then at chosen parts he's using some kind of voice altering device - but I think it's good enough and fits really well with the music).
I would recommend reacting to E-Type - Do You Always. In my humble opinion it's the best song, but also Russian Lullaby and Angels Crying are good songs. Actually, you could probably do a night hang with E-Type, there's just too many good songs, not just stereotypical eurodance (which you might have had the impression of by listening to your last reaction). I dare to say that E-Type as a whole is a big contribution to Swedish musical culture. Also; I got used to his voice, it doesn't sound as bad after listening to a few songs, I don't know if that's bad thing or not, but..yeah I appreciate the voice today.
Oh man.... you are watching the wrong version of this video, det finns bättre videor av denna låten. Lyssna på This is the way och Life.
