Wow! I just listened to "En livstid i krig" for the first time. Here's my reaction. Here's the Spotify playlist of all of the reactions I've done: open.spotify.com/playlist/5Dz...
Fun fact: The English version of the song is about a third-person perspective of the war compared to the first-person perspective the Swedish version is.
@@JonathanRollinssthlm305 Swede here. Here's my attempt at a direct translation of the Swedish lyrics, for comparison. I look around me and see my home fading. My time at home felt way too brief. Just a youth, barely a man, as duty called. I don't know if I'll see my home again, Among kin from my village I went forth to battle. And the world burned. Because the war it can destroy a man. I give my life for my fatherland. But who misses me? So see me like this: A husband, a friend, father and son who never returns home. But who mourns me? Went into battle for Sweden, got baptised in blood. Out there, death awaits, not heroism. In the fields, kin fall, there's no songs to be heard. Tempting fate, once again. Far from home, baptised and killed in combat. And the world burned. Because the war it can destroy a man. I give my life for my fatherland, but who misses me? So see me like this: A husband, a friend, father and son who never returns home. But who mourns me? And when my time has run out, who cares? They fight on. Does a soldier get a worthy end? Allowed to rest, fade away. And never awaken. Because the war it can destroy a man. I give my life for my fatherland, but who misses me? So see me like this: A husband, a friend, father and son who never returns home. But who mourns me?
"On 28 September 2018, Sabaton announced that the album (Carolus Rex) had been awarded quadruple platinum status after remaining on the Swedish chart for 326 weeks" That album is a monster. I absolutely love it, it hasn't a bad song on it. No fillers, all killers! 😁
Love the reaction! This is for sure one of my favorite live performances! If you are curious about more Sabaton you should definitely check out Carolus Rex (Swedish version) where they sing about the king who almost conquered half of Europe and Russia
Joakim conducting a choir of thousands... The laugh at the end was because the crowd started "Swedish Pagans" and it is a running joke that Joakim hates it. 10 albums to go.
And you being American I recommend: No bullets fly - the animated story video. (About human kindness even in war). Devil Dogs. (About US marines). To hell and back. (About US hero Audie Murphy and PTSD). All Great songs!
May I add “82nd All the Way” and “Panzer Battalion” to your list about American mentions in Sabaton songs. Panzer Battalion is also the song where they found their iconic ‘Sabaton sound’.
Your smile said it all. That is exactly how I feel leaving their shows. This one was epic 12500 singing along, the last show I was at before this covid hell. (I'm the one with the cellphone lit up)
Loved your reaction to this video! I discovered this a few months ago and my reaction seeing this the first time was about the same as yours! Totally speachless with tears in my eyes. It is a powerfull song with a powerfull text. And I understand your reaction to the lyrics if you have been to war. You obviously understand swedish very well also. I have seen so many reactions to this and most of them are so suprised by this video and the experience of it. People that don't even normaly listen to metal loves this. Music is such a powerfull language. Thank you for a awesome reaction and I will follow for more!
They educate. The historyteacher at my school uses their videos. Sabaton is from Falun - the craddle of swedish folkmusic and these guys have learned how to play the loooong way through trad and the swedish musicschool. They are really good musicians. And I love his voice! You know Sweden was at war for a long time and during these centuries we lost many boys, and fathers. Those of us having our families coming from Sweden have this history of boys captured by Napoleon or killed by the danes or the germans on a field in Europe.
Never heard Sabaton before and I'm surprised I liked it because I usually love mostly pop, but I even got goosebumps?! It reminds me of "I'll make a man out of you" from Mulan somehow too
Great reaction man. By the way, Sabaton has their own history channel where they go deep into certain battles etcetera that they have written Sonys about. It's worth wile checking out. Looking forward to your next vid'👍🍺🇺🇲🇸🇪
This is probably the newest Swedish ”Classic” out there, it’s beautiful. You basically can’t call yourself a Swedish Sabaton fan without knowing more or less this entire song, that’s how iconic this song is. I dont want to sound like i’m gatekeeping but thats kind of how it is with En Livstid I Krig. Not really but this song is just so well known that it’s probably the most well known Sabaton song out there, atleast in Sweden
@@metalcrusader6662 To be fair a band dont have to be big to have a classic song. You will never hear anyone describe Heavy Load or Manilla Road (R.I.P. Mark Shelton) as big bands but songs like Heavy metal angels and Dreams of Eschaton are seen as classics.
You should also do the song Carolus Rex, that's probably their biggest and most widely known hit, something that would actually be a "classic" even for the common people listening to radio and not particularly into the genre.
Maybe in Sweden , but I believe “Bismarck” to be more widely known. I would like Jonathan to react to that, No Bullets Fly or “Livgardet” (Swedish version) next. “82nd All the way” might be up his ally too since it is about an American regiment.
Have you heard Sabaton´s fairly new song "LIVGARDET" yet? Its a tribute for the Swedish Royal Guards , one of the worlds oldest battle units celebrating 500 years this year - Still very much active! LIVGARDET is a tribute to them. (You can find the song both in english and swedish)
Very unexpected choice of song for your chanel. But this is a great song and video and your reaction is awsome! It's a litle bit hard to catch the actuall song from this video, but you can catch some of the feeling, energy and atmosphere from this great live performance and the interaction from the audiance (probably wrong spelled). Thank you for this reaction and the awsome attitude that had you to make this choice! Keep on rocking bro!
Powermetal is, with one word: BOMBASTIC. Super intricate guitarr riffs, a "happy" upbeat sound, high pitched vocals, and epic lyrics. Manowar and Dragonforce, now that's powermetal. As always, rect to Dan Berglund - De Mördades Fria Republik
Wow, how great that you did this one!! Thank you! The whole "Carolus Rex" album is packed with great music and story telling regarding the rise and fall of the swedish empire. It has also been rated the 20th best power metal album of all time by the renowned magazine Metal Hammer. It has also sold 4X platinum in sweden alone. Being an old hardrocker I dont really consider them power metal.. its just very well made hard rock/metal. Sabaton is too big to be placed in a specific genre. Rock on and welcome to the batallion! \m/ :)
Awesome reaction to a great song. If you wish to look into more Sabaton I’d recommend Bismarck, Attack of the Dead Men or 82nd all the way; the last one is about American troops during the great war.
Nice to see this reaction. It's hard not to feel this song, both the song itself and the audience makes it powerfull. I love the "Därute väntar döden, inte hjältemod." It sets the tone, this will not be a happy song.. I suggested this together with a bunch of other "genre classics" or whatever I called it, because while it's not a true swedish classic, if you only reacts to the true classics, there will be a lot of genres that will never show up here since aunt Agda will never have crossed path with it. :) And if one wants to learn about sweden through music, the mainstream music is not the only thing you want.
Damn, Jonathan. I'm kind of late on this vid, but just wanted to say i actually got chills from your reactions man. I was kind of tearing up listening to this one, and your reactions made the experience even better man! Greetings from a fellow Stockholmare! Anyone else deployed in affe 10 or 12-13 BTW? :)
Great reaction! There are a lot of Great Sabaton songs about Swedish history and about US history. They have a way about them to make you feel proud and hyped up about other countries that they sing about. And I guess you're gonna get some international attention on this channel if you react to Sabaton, not only Swedish.
Man, if you’ve experienced war... I assume those lyrics are even more powerful. Was clear to see you got a bit emotional there. Would really recommend you to watch Sabaton’s live performance of “Uprising” (The Great Tour - Warsaw).
I've been watching some of your clips, and I like it a lot! 👍👍👍 I hope Sabatons new release friday 7/1 is coming up on your chanel.. 😊 Ceep up the good work! 👌💕
Tex. Devil dog. To hel and back. 82 al the way. No bullets fly. Screaming eagles ( 101 airborn). Bland annat. Mitt favorit band
I love your reaction to this great song! Thank you! Very powerful and uplifting: The Red Baron, Devil Dogs, Screaming Eagles, Ghost Division, 82 All the Way, 40:1, Night Witches, Resist and Bite, Fields of Verdun, Blood of Bannockburn or about the air force Aces in Exile - just a few to name :-)
Yeah 40-1 ! I wouldnt put it in the catagory Swedish classic, but that live performance at woodstock i poland! Wooaaah! Looks like 100 000 people in the audience going crazy! And you will see why its called power metal as well 😬 If/when you run out of swedish classics check that one out! Keep up the good work!
Sabaton is awesome :) Personligen älskar jag just denna låt men de har ju typ hur många som helst :) Sabaton is some kind of religion, same as Nightwish :) Awesome stuff :)
The Thirty Years' War - Sweden becomes a great power 💙💛 It was during the Thirty Years' War that Sweden became a great power in Europe. The war consisted of a series of interrelated conflicts with varying backgrounds. Religion is often mentioned as a contributing ideological cause to the war because the combatants consisted primarily of Catholics on the one hand and Protestants on the other. On the Catholic side stood mainly the powerful German-Roman Empire, while the Protestant side was dominated by Sweden which in the end became the big winner of the conflict. At the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Sweden's newfound position as a great power in northern Europe was confirmed...💙💛
Please do more Sabaton they are so good some of the more thought provoking songs are price of a mile, final solution, cliffs of Gallipoli, If u just want some badass military history and sick guitars White death, saboteurs, carolus Rex, Well I’m not done yet gonna throw my all time favourite in the mix as well it was the first or second song I ever heard with Sabaton Primo Victoria, Thanks for the great videos!
Oh and I'd swap Come give me love for some other song by Ted. That's not a classic or a hit song imo but you could go with many others: _För kärlekens skull, Satellit, Låt kärleken slå rot, Jag vill ha en egen måne_ and a lot of people seem to like _Ge en sol._
Ja, snälla gör "Carolus Rex", den svenska versionen som andra säger här i kommentarerna. Det är en superbra låt! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VHeRnaWMtDk.html
Awsome, if you haven’t already, you really need to react to devin Townsend. Do the song kingdom EMG tv….. plz do it.
@@JonathanRollinssthlm305 Air Force you say.☺️?! Then if you haven’t already, you should check out “no bullets fly”, “night witches” (Animated story versions) or “the Red Baron” by Sabaton 🙂👍🏻 I think you would appreciate those songs.
Svenne Rubins is a band you should check out, also from Dalarna and an inspiration for sabbaton growing up. Songs like folköl och dunkadunka, Amazon or Långa bollar på bengt
I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) Just before this clip started Joakim (the singer) asked everyone to hold up their cellphones since no one carries around a lighter anymore. Needless to say, this was one hell of a show, sadly, this was just before covid broke out and started canceling shows (had for once tickets for 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend) Sabaton doesn't really fall under the power metal genre since they don't have the soaring vocals and fantasy-inspired lyrics that a lot of power metal takes influence from.
Tons of great songs by sabaton and their live performances are allways great. If you wanna react to some more you should see some of their performances at Wacken like 40 to 1 or swedish pagans(:
You should do some Hammerfall songs :) they are really good, also powermetal! The song Glory To The Brave could be considered a classic and widely known :)
@@dennisnilsson92 true, I thought Glory To The Brave might appeal to him though as he was moved by En Livstid I Krig, which is completely different of course but has kind of the same lost at war theme.
