Unlike most of the songs on the Carolos Rex double album this one isn't the same in English and Swedish. The Swedish version is from the perspective of a young Swedish soldier, the English version is from an outside observers perspective of the entire 30 year war. The other song on the album where the lyrics differ is the song 1648. It's about the Swedish arms siege and ransacking of Prague. The Swedish version is from a Swedish perspective, the English version is from the perspective of the inhabitants of Prague. It was the last battle of the 30 year war. It started in Prague, and ended there too.
Best choir conductors Sweden has! Having been in the audience during one of these performances (though at a much smaller venue) I can say that it's pretty darn powerful live. I hope they do it on their tour now so you can experience it but it might just be something they do in Sweden. Also, YES to more Tommy!
When they came through the US, they didn't do "A Lifetime of War", but they did do "Gott Mit Uns" and they polled the crowd right before hand asking if they wanted it in English or Swedish, so there's a chance! Though, another consideration is that the English version of "A Lifetime of War" is completely different lyrically than the Swedish version, with the Swedish version (in my opinion) being a lot more personal for Swedes.
@@cah11111 True, it's basically two completely different songs. Luckily they have plenty of songs that lend themselves to singalongs, Gott Mit Uns being one of them, so no matter where you are and what language you speak a Sabaton concert is an awesome experience.
@@RexRegisPeter If you are seeing them on their Swedish tour, they will do this for sure. I don't think you need to know the lyrics to appreciate it though but, yeah, it's probably more fun if you can sing along.
Nice reaction, I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) Just before this clip started Joakim said Nobody carries around a lighter anymore but you all have phones right? So turn on your lights for this one. Totally wonderful, my friends, let's sing together en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) Needless to say, this was one hell of a show that night sadly, this was just before covid broke out, and started canceling shows, had for once tickets for 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend. As a side note, we were 10766 metal heads at the arena that night, going by statistics in the newspaper and online after the show, the arena was sold out.
This kinda speaks to that primal part in me, so yes, it's emotional. Sabaton are great storytellers. Lucky me, I get to see them live in a few weeks and Tommy and the hair... Thank you for a solid reaction! 🤘
This is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard, in its most powerful performance. As a cathedral alto myself, I have made people cry (in a good way!) singing some of the greatest music of the last 500 years (e.g. the Victoria Requiem, Purcell's Funeral Sentences, Mozart Requiem, Howells Hymnus Paradisi), and this has the same power.
Sabaton 40:1 Live at Woodstock in 2012. (Also Uprising from same Live performance) are very powerful displays too. Songs about the polish resistance in ww2 in front of a massive polish audience.
If this made you cry (Which is fair enough) i dread to think what you'll be like with Disturbed - Hold onto the memories Cracking reaction bro. The powerful moment of a crowd just living in the moment! As i said on the last one. React to - The Future of Warfare please :)
Thank you chief for a great reaction! I am just a simple Swede who had the privilege to experience this live. ^^ (and a marine who lucklily so far have not had to face real war). This truly is a great song about a horrible long war, which really lasted more than a lifetime of many. Ref. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Years%27_War For the Record, Sabaton and all of us are totally with you against war. Just like they (we all) sing: war often destroys the life of men. Joakim (the singer) even clarified this in one of many interviews, in response to some narrowminded ignorant prejudice: "No, we are absolutely NOT glorifying war. [in that nice, no nonse and matter of fact tone] That would be STUPID! We simply tell [historic] stories, so we might understand and learn from them". And that's just it, we should all remember and learn from the stories of our human history, so as not to repeat the mistakes and create our own future. War has taken far too many young lives already throughout history. And remember, it is never about the violence, it is about what we are defending! About what we value so highly we are willing to risk our lives for it! The heroes of Poland lived this in the 2nd world war [Ref. Uprising and 40:1], and the brave amazing heroes of Ukraine are still living it right now! We have alot of freedoms today which too many are taking for granted. Well, freedom ain't free! Good people fought and died for what we have today. Always remember and appreciate this! Cheers & respect! \m/
Loved your reaction 😍❤️. Many small villages dissapeard in Sweden during the early sixteenhundreds. All that was left was women, children and old men, the young boys and middleaged men died in a far away country during the 30 year war, in Germany mostly. A sad song, but wars are sad for those who fight it and for those left behind😢. ❤️❤️❤️
2019 through Beste zangers I met Floor Jansen. Not a Metal head at all (I thought) I gave Nightwish a change because I fell in love with Floor's voice. The best thing that could happen because I'm sold/hooked. Than the notification that Floor's husband is the drummer of Sabaton from Sweden. Giving them a change as well I found out I am a Metal head 🤭 and this year I'm going to see Floor 2 times (April Utrecht Tivoli, December Amsterdam Ziggo Dome) and Sabaton ((May 3th Amsterdam). I'm so looking forward to 2023 💯😍🇵🇾🧡
This song is about Swedish soldiers during the 30-years war, but especially part of the first verse that the crowd sings immediately makes me think of Ukraine now. And the regular folks there that have taken up arms to defend their homeland. I suspect the thoughts articulated here would resonate a lot with many if not all of them. Great reaction!
Sabaton is a one of a kind band that will not just telling stories/facts about war in the history. They will make history as band. So unique and clever band. Songwriting that many can relate to and they combine it with music that fits every song + a hell of creative live show and staging. Btw, i can also relate to your comparison to Michael Bolton. The key is powerful lyrics that matches sound-settings that triggers emotions in humans. Music stimulates different receptors in our brains and if you add powerful lyrics = A genius song! In ”Livs tid i krig” they use strokes to lift up the lyrics, cuz its a very powerful massage. Small details but very effective. Stroke sounds are one of the most effective sound on our receptors. Good reaction man ! Watched it twice cuz of your way to put words on your feelings and thoughts⭐️ Keep it up
Man I've just given You a sub. I've opened for Sabaton back in 2005/2006? Just as they released their very first album. I'm a drummer. Was even asked to audition for them but i was on a heroine binge and it would never have happened. Got some awesome stories about lots of stuff! Partied with them backstage! Very likeable people. Hope we can have a beer one day! William, Aus Schweden 🇸🇪
I watched a video or two when you started out on RU-vid and when you were a bit more insecure. Wow you have come a long way! Emotions, personality, honesty and analysis. Brilliant reaction.
The song En Livstid I krig Bast on the 30.year. sibbel War . Sweden was a part.of it under Gustav Adolf . King of Sweden . The Song Lion of the North is the Story of Gustav Adolf of Sweden . 🤘🤘
Burst into tears yea ...I saw Lee Macks video from when he played "Vienna" for his daughter...when the chorus came on, the sprinklers just went off. I myself have never cried listening to music until I was 50 years old, and listened to Nightwish with Floor Jansen ....then my sprinklers went off, and they still do when I listen to Poet 3 years later.
check out Wolfheart - The Flood. its a finnish power rock band liek sabaton with war songs of old, very viking inspired. they sing in english but the lyrics are very drownedout by the music but It doesent matter cos u get so pulled in by the music.chills af ! :D
In swedish this song is about the veiw of war of a solider pov, in english its as you look at it from the outside the war. The swedish version is unreal. Please do caroleans preyer aswell, english version.
OOh, another song suggestion. Floor released a new single a few days ago. Since you talked about PTSD, she made a song about it. Invincible is the song. There is a lyric music video for it on her RU-vid. :D
If you have a man crush on Tommy go and check out his sick covers like: SARÀ PERCHÉ TI AMO (Metal version) - Tommy Johansson, CANNELLONI MACARONI (Metal Cover) - Tommy Johansson and many many other funny and crazy covers 🙂
I love this song with all my heart. The lyric part of "För kriget det kan förgöra en man" truly gets to me. "Förgöra" basically means "Destroy" in english but it's such a strong word in Swedish. Sometimes I hate that no other nation speaks our language to understand these kind of words. The translation is easy, sure. But they have a stronger meaning in our language. Also, this video is a re-release of a live video filmed several years ago, the crowds singing and all is real. The lights in the video is not. It is a really good remake, but it kinda removes a lot of the crowds actual reactions. Here's the original video :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gMRHlqmn3ZU.html
Yeah "förgöra" is more at the level of strength as like "annihilate" in english. Just destroy doesnt fully translate I agree, it conveys complete and utter destruction.
Just wondering how you can say that this performance is a remake of the one you linked to? Considering the stage set-up is different (no tanks for example) and you can tell by the bandmembers are younger and with a different guitarist.
Oy oy, Chief. If you enjoy audience participation, Blind Guardian at Wacken, performing The Bard's Song, has become kind of iconic. This here was the last time they did: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i-IcX_bccFc.html Regarding Michael Bolton... did you ever watch Office Space? Definite recommendation.
I hear you, Chief! All humans have the same needs...I can't fathom the logic of everyone for themselves, those born into wealth and those with nothing, struggling to just survive when there's more than enough to go around. Makes no sense. Only wish I spoke Swedish to better feel the song...
Have you heard some of Tommys covers? If not, you should head over to his channel, would suggest: YOU RAISE ME UP (1 OCTAVE CHALLANGE) - TOMMY JOHANSSON ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zoGJ7mxNq0M.html Can´t find any reactions to his songs on your channel but if I missed it you can just forgett my comment 😅
Once again, Sabaton reaches into your soul and squeezes the emotion out of you. Joakim's voice evokes deep emotion, even if you do not understand the tragic words of the song. And using this camera angle, with the lights in the crowd and their singing, makes it hit even harder. And never be sorry about going back to a solo, especially when Hannes is killing it on the drums at the same time. Great reaction and keep rocking.
Waow my friend...now you have touched my absolut favourite song from Sabaton. To top it all, I was actually at this concert standing there on the left. I will never forget the feeling in the crowd. The pride and the sadness tjat is portrayed in this song is incredible. We all joined in clapping, singing and crying..EPIC MOMENT!!! Funny you mentioned Michael Bolton...his How am I supposed to live without you is hard to handle without shedding a tear or two.😂 About mancrush on Tommy, he released a new cover today with his brother-in-law Kim, absolutely killing it!
The lyrics are very emotional in this version. It describes the 30 years war in Europe (1618-1648) from a young Swedish boys perspective, sent out to a war far from home in a small village to a country he dont even know where it is. One can say that this conflict actually was the first world war, because so many nations was involved.
I love Sabaton. Usually play them and Nightwish when im at work so everyone can hear it. Hehe. Also great that I live near the boarder to Sweden, so I know Swedish. It's close to Norwegian so it's easy to learn. So it's easy to follow their lyrics. :D And you said Tommy's last name correct the 1 time. :D Song suggestion! Solence - Blood sweat tears (From their new album they are releasing soon, music video on their channel) :D
A testament to the power of music AND the depth of your empathy. Powerful song and performance. Thanks Chief! Michael Bolton to Sabaton…nope just can’t get there, lol
Ha-hA, the day before yesterday Epica released the official live for the song rivers in exactly the same shooting style, now it's clear who they learned it from 😆
@@Chief322 Tommy’s just released his version of Thunderstruck by AC/DC which is epic. But if you like something completely diffrent from Tommy why not react to his powermetal, one octave challange of Basket Case by Green Day.
Just love it 10 766 visitors ❤ I am gonna se them in Gothenburg Sweden 19/2 and in Stockholm Sweden 28/4 Happy girl 🤩 And Tommy Johansson , Majestica 🥰 (love your reaction)
Wow you sound like me ive been called shitnames for years but i cant help it its like when i hear some songs and maybe its the way its sung im bawling my eyes out its like witchcraft and i cant explain it. When i found Heilung band it all got more intense but the music sooths me. Big hug from Sweden
I know what you mean when you say that music can affect you even tho you do not understand what they sing. I have a song for you here that is a perfect example of that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-woEcdqqbEVg.html

Sabaton to Michel Bolton is a really short step I assume you by now a year later have seen Tommy doing Disneyton Swedish Pagans to Go the Distance music and him covering Go the Distance by now. Couldn’t find you reacting to any of them though.
Loved this, you got a sub directly. Im a Swedish dude, a soldier in our homeguard and ofc I'v seen Sabaton a few times. I hate war, I wish we did not need to train for it, BUT I do for my country, for my family and would do what I can for them. I respect you for listening to them, your love for music, as a fellow metalhead that could not survive without it, I will def follow your content. Singer in 2 metal projects, music is therapy. Keep it up Chief, hope to see more Swedish metal on your page 🤘🖤
Good morning Chief and all others 😊. Well, i am a metalhead, but i have to admit, i like other genres too. Actually i have 2 categories in music: like and don't like. And Michael Bolton is 👍! I like his powerful, emotionally loaded voice since i was a girl. Thank ? he got a haircut, looked like a CHIPPENDALE 😝 Yes, both impressing voices, incompareable. Geoff Tates, David Draiman... and the Ladys FLOOR.... Greetings from Germany🤗 and parkinson's sucks⚘ and EMPPU RULES 😎🤘alex
Yes, yes, yes! I get the power of the music comment. The first time I heard this song same thing no idea what he was saying. And somehow knew everything he was saying. One of those grabs ya from the very beginning songs and you just can't help love it
