i just got approved yesterday - card arriving today and im soooooo excited. honestly, when i was younger i NEVER thought i would have an Amex gold or platinum card and look at me now! my 2nd amex card (first is a hilton) and I feel like im really part of the amex family now.
Legit ! Low key just approved for Gold ! Member Since Covid War. im all focused on getting that business Amex credit card though 🤓 already got a great vibe from their customer service chat. Customer Service is Serious ☺️
Having the Uber credit actually makes me more conservative with taking Uber because in the beginning of the month I tend to not want to use my credit early and avoid taking Uber until I need it. Before I had the Gold card I was using uber at least once a week now I use it once or twice a month because I use it based in my credit.
I'm glad you covered the gold cards hotel collections credit. There's sometime that's not covered in your videos that could be a tremendous benefit for traveling families as well as groups of friends. In the fine print it states (benefits are applied per room, per stay, with three room limit per stay). So in essence that $100 credit is applied to a max of three rooms per stay for a total of $300 for a traveling group whether it be family or friends and like you mentioned in your video its not a once per calendar credit. It can be used a number of stay through out the year, I'm assuming that this benefit also come with the Platinum card as well. With that being said I think the AMEX gold card is the ultimate travel card for families with this benefit
Just got the Gold a couple of months ago with the expanded 60,000 point bonus, up from 35K!! When I hit their requirements I will already have enough total Amex points to qualify for that business roundrip ticket to Japan you mentioned Sebby, which i NEVER would have thought of on my own! I'm going to start looking into all these travel options now... also, just visited Shake Shack earlier today using the card lol - THANKS!!!
Keep an eye out in the mail for pre approved letters! 80k bonus instead of the 60-75k bonus. Also AMEX travel will match hotel prices if you find it cheaper elsewhere (must be same room, same amount of people, same dates)
I love the gold card and pretty excited with the new Uber credit. I want to do a yolo trip to Europe with my family. Have been saving up all my points for after the pandemic.
I just booked a room using the Amex Fine hotels and resorts. And it was $50 more through them but I got free breakfast for two and the $100 credit for dining or spa. And I got an upgraded room. So it was definitely worth it. But I can see it not being worth it if you stay a few nights.
I want a new credit card, I got my discover it card when I was 18 and it’s the only card I qualified for because it is marketed as a student card. I’ve had it 6 years now and it really doesn’t do much for me other than the ~$15/month in rewards. Choosing a new card is SO overwhelming and I don’t even know where to start. Thanks for making these videos!
We're basically the same. Had my capital one journey card at 19 and had it for 6 years now. They finally offered me an upgrade this year to the quicksilver. This Year, I also decided to get an apple card and got the amex gold a month later. No more CCs for me I'm happy with both of them
@asksebby mileage may vary with FHR. Booked one night bellagio and received $60 in breakfest credit and $100 for dinner. Just by booking one day. $64 a night plus resort fee. Getting back positive value
A bit of a next level scenario/question that I've never thought of until now: -We all know of Amex's "once in a lifetime sign-up bonus" rule. -Let's say you have a player two. -Both of you have an Amex Gold (or another Amex card) and you received sign-up bonuses for those cards. -The next year, one of you closes a card. -Then a couple months later, the one of the two of you that still has the card sends a referral link to the player two that closed an account a couple months ago. -The player two is approved for the new card. (The player two would be ineligible for a sign-up bonus due to the once in a lifetime sign-up bonus rule.) Do you think the referrer would still get a referral bonus for that situation?
I have a credit card guru coworker, I only have a Delta card from Amex but decided to apply at work yesterday and “you’re approved” like wow! I decided to choose this one since the Platinum sounds great but I’m not traveling much and I just got my first home too being built so rather wait maybe a year then upgrade! So excited saw it should arrive monday
Hi Sebby, Thank you for sharing on Amex Gold card. I talked with Amex representative on Hotel Collection. I was notified that the new Amex Gold Card holders will no longer get $100 Hotel Collection Benefits
Well at-lest I will still have my $120.00 dining credit and $100.00 flight credit which expires December. Unfortunately I have no Uber in my area Garden City Kansas .
For the list of offers, if you look at them one category at a time instead of all of them at once, I don't think the 100 limit is an issue. I usually prefer to look at them one category at a time, and don't think there has been anywhere near 100 in any one category.
I would love to see a video about the state of San Francisco..I know it's off-topic a bit but I feel you are a pretty objective guy and I am seeing a lot of videos on youtube saying how bad San Francisco has become..I am planning to travel to San Francisco later this year and I am seriously thinking of avoiding the city altogether.
I've had the Platinum for a while, but just added the Gold for the supermarket and dining rewards. Also, having $25/mo for Uber is pretty great given that I usually go way over the $15 for Uber Eats each month. I love Shake Shack too, but sadly there aren't any near my house, but there is one that's just a 6 min walk from my office! That'll come in handy when I start working out of the office again... some day. Do you know if you can use the Gold Uber Eats pass after the Platinum one expires? Wouldn't mind a 2nd free year of Uber Eats Pass :)
Gold card dining credit is trash, $10 a month? it's like a credit for the food tax or something similar, kind of stupid.....they should change it to $120 in anywhere to eat once a year or 2times $60 every six months or something like that...
I just got an Amex Gold and they said that if the hotel had cheaper prices online than what they have through Amex’ portal, they would refund you the difference
Hey thanks! I didn't realize that only 100 offers showed at a time. I'm probably losing a lot, but I don't travel OUS so I use MR points for gift cards when they are on sale and get 1.25, not the best but better than the .6 I would get if i used points to cover charges.
You can't "stack" like that. Amex Plat has Hotels Collection and FHR. 99% of the time, FHR is exceptionally better. Amex Gold is meant as a dining card / workhorse for earning points.
Yo Sebby I’m I big fan and I’ve been closely watching your videos lately and I have a question. As the spring comes around I plan on traveling a bit more (about once a month), which makes me want to try and get the Amex platinum card. On the flip side the gold card has a great intro bonus right now as well and seems more reasonable because most of my expenses are in their 4x MR categories. What would you recommend in this situation? Is it wise to go platinum first even though I may not get as many points from rewards categories long term? Or do I go for the gold card first to take advantage of higher points on everyday expenses and a lower annual fee? I personally took the liberty of annihilating the like button and mercilessly assassinating the subscribe button so I would appreciate the help. For reference I currently have the delta gold card so I am in their system.
If you already have an Amex card, I would just grab the Gold and call it a day. There's a case for the Platinum given the credits / how aggressive they are with keeping these users happy. It really depends on your spend. Play with the calculators: www.asksebby.com/credit-cards/american-express-gold-card
Hi Sebby, Great video super informative since I myself just got the gold card this month. One thing though I was wondering if you could help shine a light on, Towards the end when you started listing off airlines I got pretty confused. Is there somewhere you would recommend to look at in order to learn what airlines go where or things like that? Also it seems like you're saying that sometimes its better to pay to fly somewhere and then use the points to go from that airport to another in the foreign country is that right?
Working on something for the points bit :) Yes, I wouldn't use points unless it makes sense. Sometimes using other points vs. Amex points as well is better.
Can you explain the second option you mention @7:02, still not sure I understand the process because like you mention, the low spend really doenst make sense with the annual fee these says
Option 1: Get (and keep) the Schwab Platinum card long-term. Option 2: Hit up the intro bonuses, earn points with the Gold, get the Schwab Platinum at the end vs. keeping it for a few years. i.e., you could easily do normal Platinum (2021-2022), Platinum Morgan Stanley ('22-23), Business Platinum ('23-24). Schwab Platinum at the end.
I transferred to Cathay for a RTW award to book for 2022 (in conjunction with a bunch of Cathay miles I got with the Synchrony card). Hoping to hit Europe, the Middle East, India/Sri Lanka, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan and then back home to the US.
@@AskSebby I recommend it. I split time between Colombo and Unawatuna with a stop on the way back out at Udawalawe National Park (full of elephants). I probably want to go into the tea country and Buddhist sites next time, maybe even take in Jaffna.
Random question. I was stranded here in Texas due to severe winter storm so flights are cancelled since Sunday Feb 14. I charged the airline ticket to fly back home on my Amex card. The rest of the travel expenses while stuck are charged in CSP. Do you am I eligible to file trip cancellation/interruption? All I want is to get reimburse my hotel ,food and transportation expenses while stranded. Thank you.
So I got the gold two weeks ago and I’ll be able to reach the spending amount needed for me to get my points by months end. My wife and I most like won’t travel until end of the year or next year though. We have a little one and r just being responsible. When should I go for the platinum? I also just started a business so I’ve been thinking of getting a chase business preferred soon. Just don’t know what to go for first or when I should. The Amex gold was the first card I’ve gone for in 5 years so not sure if I’m doing to much to soon being that this is uncharted waters for me. 😂 love your content and stay safe!
I got a question about the Amex charge cards. I understand that with charge cards you need to pay them off every month or late fees start accumulating. Do you know if this is true even during the introductory 0% APR period?
Sebby could you do a video about corporate discounts on Amex cards? I have a card through work, and I just learned you can get a discount on personal cards
Ask Sebby I am 6/24, recently go into the game when I got my first job. Funny my last card I got was the CFU in September, I would do the trifecta, but I’m not sure if the CSR is for me
i have the gold and plat on the uber app but it only shows $15 credit, which is from the plat (i’m assuming). how do i get the gold credit of $10 to show?
just got approved for gold today. Not sure how i am going to get all these points as I dont' really eat out at places that were mentioned in their website, i live in a suburbs so uber isn't a big thing.. i guess i'll just use this card instead of regular debit card wherever i use debit cards and see what happens at the end of the year. I do want to fly atleast twice a year locally though and once every two years to UK and/or Asia since thats where my families are. if anyone has a pointers please feel free to help me out.
I can confirm they combine. I have $25 per month of Uber credit. You just add them both as payment options and they each reflect $15 and $10 respectively to combine to $25.
Hello sir! I was going to use my card for Uber, dining, groceries. I figure both bonuses from Uber and dining and probably spending $800 a month for groceries/dining. What should I use my points for, at the end of each year ?
Travel (flights and hotels) is definitely the best redemption option. Whether using the MR points directly or transferring to one of American Express’ travel partner.
In theory, because you get 10$ a month Uber Eats credit, if you were to utilize that benefit every month then you'd be receiving 120$ in value thus eliminating 120$ from the Annual Fee that you have to pay. Almost like trading dollar for dollar
Idk if it's a typo or something but I activated my eats pass on my Green card on the 29th of December 2020. And I looked over the eats pass on the app and it says auto renew starts on December 31st 2022. So essentially two years 🤔
I like to note that (in my opinion) using your MRP for anything around 1 cent per MRP is OK! I think you really need to be a min maxer to start finding ways and going really out of your way to get 2 cents per MRP
Also, if you are travelling domestic there’s no way you are getting more than one cent per point a lot of these two or three cent per point deals are going to be for international travel
One thing i don't get is how you guys make points seem so valuable, i have around 100k points and all i want is to find the cheapest flight to let's say.. SFO to HNL in hawaii, how would i go about to do that? i don't care about first class or any of that i just want the cheapest flight
You totally can. A lot of people get $25+ dollars a month. I have two Amex golds and one plat on my account right now. That’s $35 a month for me until I cancel one.
Very strange. I have multiple Platinum cards (and their credits) show up on the same account without issue. Maybe try removing all the Amex cards and re-adding?
Hi Sebby! If i already have a delta gold card is there no way i’ll be targeted for the 75k amex gold? I’ve been waiting to apply (through your link of course) because i’m hoping i’ll get targeted for the 75k offer. Thank you sir 🙌
