Earlier this month, the defence ministry signed a contract of over ₹8,000 crore with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for acquisition of 24 Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Dhruv Mark III for the Indian Army and the Coast Guard. It demonstrates another significant push in the government's quest for self-reliance in defence. It also shows renewed confidence in the capabilities of HAL which is also making the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mark IA. Trainers are already upgraded to Mk1A standards. They will roll out as Mk1A.

As a manufacturing man for all life now at 85, I suggest HAL must debottleneck its manufacturing operations with cutting-edge technologies and management practices to give timely delivery of fighters and helicopters on order and keep India flag flying high in sectors it serves. Let HAL’s and Indian best engineering Brains put their mind to develop successfully its own engine. India can always be importing engines…

Wonderful episode, Nitinji! Coming to the export part, I firmly feel that the Tejas has to stabilize and mature as a platform in the IAF first, with respect to its avionics , engine and weapons systems, before we venture for exports. What is interesting is the perception of third countries regarding the IAFs own reluctant acceptance of the Tejas as a viable fighter aircraft and secondly, HAL's production and technological capacity to cater to export orders when internal (read: IAF) demand can be barely met. In my view, HAL has not only to overcome these perceptions but also assure it's potential customers about its existing capabilities and future plans.

They need to move faster. Currently they are protected by Indian govt contracts and R&D funds and being a monopoly in the aviation sector. But if they had to compete globally on their own, they would be hard pressed. They need to step up fast.

The aircraft seen in the video is only LCA trainer ,where is mark 1a. Honestly speaking mark 1a first flight will conduct 2026 .If anybody has doubt go and ask HCl they will tell you the truth

We are talking about export, but still not able to meet timeline of our own demands.. Imagine what will happen if China attack us tomorrow... We were not prepared in 1962 and even today also the conditions are not very much different... Ultimately this delay will sacrifice lives of our brave soldiers...

We need to have advanced avionics and armament ,it is simply who is able to detect enemy first and have the ability to down the enemy aircraft - you have adversary China with well done homework on each known fighting platform of India ,infrastructure kill,strategies of past,present and future and heavily reliant on niche technology ; so we should pursue programme like Tejas but we desperately need much superior fighter in numbers its armament with technology transfer and dedicated institute to produce skilled manpower then be it with SAAB Gripen or American,European fighter with no string attached for usage; besides others equipment procurement looking with hope

Government politician came design jet, worked in production, solved all problems, upgraded technology, Government or IAF pending 20000cr rupees to HAL, IAF never paid ontime, Other customers are happy with HAL, they want jointly produce material... Who are paid amount they are getting material on-time, without money no honey, Few years back, HAL don't have amount to pay salary, they took loan by bank, Bank given loan only seeing pending amount from IAF, it's 1000cr, HAL Profit is 19000cr.... Government done lot's of delay, in recent projects also, TEJES MK2, TEDBF, AMCA, CARGO JET, TRAINER JET, HELICOPTER, medium and heavy catagory approval pending, Even infront media they say we approved, fund will receive after a year.....

Its officially out. Its engine failure thus now a team from GE already/will come to find out what wrong with the engine but i think even if they already find out ,just not going to be made public. These engine are not fully design for humid climate what i heard but i don't claim that the problem.

40 years ago the projects we were working on: 0 Today: 4 fighters, 4 Helicopters, multiple UAVs, 3 Trainers Certainly not a symbol of an improved ecosystem... especially after it's near death experience in early 2010s...

Yes India created, it's not about only Jet, There are lot's of components, Radar, Engine, lot's of things India produced.... Asking about crucial technology like Jet engine, Government need to invest heavy amount, Also scientist or engineer don't have all questions and answers, sometimes they need to do trail and error based, One engine fail stop engine project, one drone accident stop funding asking nonsense questions.... accident will happen... technology need to upgrade time to time

What resurgence lol? Its like patting your own back. We are still not able to productionize a strong 4 + gen fighter jet (mk 2). 4.5 gen AMCA 1's existence is still some ink and paper. This is basically copium. Sell off HAL to a private buisnessman and see the dramatic returns in under 5 years.
