Amiga 1200 Longplay [019] Kang-Fu 

In case somebody is still interested in the backstory of this game, i've found an interview with the developers in an old Dutch Amiga magazine (Amiga Magazin number 42 from November 1996 (I don't know Dutch myself, but google lens helped a lot): Apparently GREED was simply a group of friends and relatives who wanted to develop game that took advantage of the capabilities of the Advanced Graphics Architecture chipset (hence the CD32 compatibility). So more of a tech demo that eventually became a game. When it was finished they looked for a publisher, but nobody wanted to release stuff for the Amiga anymore. Finally they self-published the game and distributed it by mail order. The funniest part of the interview was the info that they pitched the game to Psygnosis and apparently Psygnosis actually liked the game. They only rejected the offer because they had already withdrawn from the Amiga market at that time.

To the person who played and finished this absolute abomination of a fever dream. You have my upmost respect.

This has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard in a video game. It's so varied in genre, catchy and very enjoyable. Well done for getting through this game.

This game feels like one of those weird, obscure shoot-em-up games released only in Japan. It's just so surreal.

This game is pretty cool. It has a very unique style, the sprites are well animated and Kang fu has an interesting arsenal of weapons at his disposal. I also like how big Kang collects the little joeys in his pouch and drinks cola do refil his health bar. Amiga CD hidden gem.

You know... As odd as this is to say, given how terrible this game is... I think it would be interesting if the game was remade, given some love and some polish to the gameplay and mechanics, as well as an art direction that didn't look like drug addicts just tossed the game together while on the mother of all trips... As well as giving the kangaroo protagonist a redesign that makes him look a bit more like Kao the Kangaroo and give him either boxing gloves or martial arts weapons... Then maybe... Just maybe, Kang Fu could be at the very least a mediocre game.

Ending screen begins with text reading: “Congratulations! You have defeated skull. Your quest has now come to an end. Klont’s family is reunited.” In front a stock live action photo of a family of kangaroos.

The game over screen is horrifying and creepy, as it is an actual photo of a kangaroo's decayed corpse on a desert, making it almost on par with Hong Kong 97's realistic game over screen.

Someone needs to find the devs and interview them.

RU-vid probably recommended me this because of AVGN. Nice to see the algorithm actually working for once.

It may have just been a technical exercise fueled with a "why not" mindset, but this game accomplishes that most games these days don't: it puts a massive grin on my face of sheer joy.

Neat, this just popped in my recommendation but I didn't watch the Amiga avgn so now I know why its now getting attention.

I've been playing this game myself lately on the CD32, and I actually like it. It can be a fun and enjoyable platformer if given the chance. I also like the ost, there are some tracks in particular that I really like and are nice to listen to when playing. While I admit that it does have some bugs and glitches here and there, the game is still playable for sure. I am quite fascinated by the enemy selection, though. It's so nonsensical and random that it makes the game kind of unique and a surreal experience. All in all, I'd consider this game to be a retro classic of the 1990s. It may not be great, but it's decent. Also, I'd love to see a speedrun of this game!

NPI Has used savestates in playthroughs even for this bloody mess of a game, to get through all the levels and show us the final cutscene and ending screen.

This game is meant to be played on a CRT monitor. It is one of the few Amiga games made in HAM8 mode. Thats why you see the glitches some places. Not the best game, but its nice I think!

This game had so much potential.

The developers really liked that kung fu pun (if it can be called a pun - you don't actually perform any martial arts in this game).. the next game was slotted to be called "kang two". Got a bunch of comedians over here.

I want a a reimagining of this game, the IP is just too cool to let die. I'm thinking the same kind of sprawling levels, but of course more varied and with more focus on platforming (he is a kangaroo after all, they jump pretty well), high resolution sprites in a more unified art style (currently, some of these sprites are more cartoony than others and the shading differs), high resolution photos for the tiles and backgrounds with the colors and contrast adjusted to better differentiate foreground from background and more challenging and varied boss fights. The soundtrack is fantastic so that definitely stays, but the tracks would be recreated using higher quality samples/instruments while keeping the sound as similar as possible to the originals. I wonder who owns the IP?

This game is creepy in its own unique way. I like it.

Gods, I put this video in the background while leafing through some images and I got sick of hearing it after the two hour mark, so I tabbed back to the video to turn it off to see that it wasn't the two hour mark at all, but seven minutes and some change. Talk about an "exciting" game.

I don't know which game over screen is worse, the kangaroo skeleton in this or the still image of the (apparently) dead guy from Hong Kong 97 taken off a capture of a video from 1992.

I've been thinking overtime how the hell did this game get made into stores especially since the Amiga cd32 was discontinued by 1994 and this game came out in 1996 and crash bandicoot and Mario 64 was out at that time But then I heard this game is mail order so if that's the case and since the Amiga was discontinued does this mean this is a bootleg game or is it officially licensed it's a mystery how this game got made

54:27 I wonder why he skipped the machine gun. 51:48 I like that he has an animation for cleaning himself after being hit with an egg on his face, and I find it cute that he has to rescue tiny versions of himself and putting them in his pouch like they are his family, but it makes me a bit sad that you can also kill them, and they even whimper too.
