It is very nice to see that it will switch and run in ECS mode without any mods. Thanks for the video.

Lovely! I also have a 3.1 Chicken Lips A500, where may I get the ECS Agnus and Denise?

Individual Computers sells both, but unfortunately the 2MB Chip expansion is no longer available. They had a limited number of 2MB Agnus chips on hand. Because of this, I am not sure if more units will become available in the future. There is good news however, the ECS V2 ScanDoubler is still available for purchase, It can be ordered here: icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/product/Flickerfixer_Scandoubler.html?flifi_type=OCS_ECS

Hey there. I still miss a video where you test the VGA output for the ECS V2. Everyone get smearing/ghosting on the VGA output. I hope everything is well with you

Hi, I also have the same configuration, ACE2 + Indivision ECS V2 but they are mounted on an Amiga 2000. It tells me that my video format is NTSC, here I see that you managed to set it on PAL, can you tell me how you did it? I've been going crazy for a year! Thank you

Unfortunately, SysInfo 4.3 is reporting the Screen Mode where it states "PAL". Look to where the Status reads "Vert Hz". It is listed as 60 Hz (NTSC), it would read 50 if the System was in PAL. I also have an ACE2 in my 2000. WHDLoad games can be forced to PAL by using the Game's Icon Tooltypes or you can choose from many utilities on Aminet that will force your Amiga into PAL if needed.

@Amiga Retro could you do a test with the VGA output on the ECS V2 to take a look at the picture quality? Me and alot of other people get quite nasty ghosting on it. It's like horizontal smearing going from left to right

I don't know if you ever tested the VGA output with the ECS V2. As mentioned earlier and by many others, it had quite a bit of ghosting/smearing to the right side of objects. Certain colour combinations would show it more than others. Anyway, I have bought myself 2x Indivision ECS V3s. These have a crystal clear image from the VGA output and shows no ghosting/smearing. Jens has put higher frequency output transistors and improved the output circuitry. Otherwise it's pretty much the same as the ECS V2.

Been trying to figure this out. I see lots of people mounting their ECS denise into the indivision. Why? If you can flash / update the firmware? I guess you can either mount the physical ECS denise into the v2 or simply flash it? I ask because if I only need to flash it then I can use the ECS denise in a different amiga. Thank you for the video.
@amigaretro4765
@amigaretro4765 4 года назад
Thanks for watching. The main difference between the Indivison ECS V1 and the Indivison ECS V2 is, the ECS V1 requires the physical Denise chip, usually the 8362 (OCS) or 8373 (ECS), where the V2 uses an FPGA to emulate the Denise (OCS and ECS versions). This should help explain why you have seen physical chips being installed onto various Indivision ECS models versus the flashing of others. The main advantages of the Indivision ECS V2 are; it acts as a direct Denise replacement, has both OCS and ECS compatibility, and VGA scan doubled output. I hope this explanation helps.

@@amigaretro4765 thanks. So long as there are no downsides to using the fpga vs the physical chip then I will not bother installing the denise chip into the v2. Thanks for video which helped me understand how to enable ecs mode.

Hi can you connect the Indivision ECS V2 to HDMI?
@amigaretro4765
@amigaretro4765 3 месяца назад
No, it does not have native HDMI output, but you can use a VGA to HDMI converter, though the output quality may vary depending on the device used.

@andrewenglish3810 3 года назад
So with the V2 you don't need to put the chip on top of it?
@amigaretro4765
@amigaretro4765 3 года назад
No, the Indivision ECS V2 doesn't require the Denise Chip. It completely replaces it. The Denise has been replicated in the onboard FPGA. It's also fully OCS and ECS compatible. This is a nice solution for either replacing a faulty Denise or upgrading the older OCS Denise. In addition you get a nice configurable scan double with VGA out.

Just did some testing on my BenQ BL 912 LCD monitor and found that the ECS V2 has superior picture quality on the RGB output VS a real Denise. Not that the real Denise has bad quality but the ECS V2 has a perfect image. It's really noticeable. It's like the colours are popping out of the screen and absolutely no noise in the picture. This will be my new way of using the ECS V2 from now on ;)

Nice to know. I will try this on my Amiga 2000 and HP 2511x. Hopefully my results are similar. I recently bought the Indvision AGA MKIII for my 1200. I may do an in-depth review in the future on this newer piece of Hardware. So far, it it is holding up well :)

@@amigaretro4765 Be sure to let me know when you have tested. I am really impressed by the crystal clear RGB picture I get from the ECS V2. Also, looking forward to you doing an in-depth video of the AGA MKIII. I have the AGA MK2 myself. Oh, and I am doing several Amiga 500 ++ Replica boards. They are really sexy. But a ton of work. Especially when I transplant most of the components from old A500 Plus and A500 boards.

Have a Indivision ECS V1 on my A500 Rev6A with the ACE2. But I used it on the ACA500Plus V1 with WB 3.1.4.1 and BestWB 1.3. Have also a fast ACA1233n-55 IDE Speeder RTC on it. Would like to have the Indivision ECS V2 for more VGA modes. Such I use with the Indivision AGA MK2CR on my A1200. The Indivision ECS V1 is nice for Demos but for Games not so great.
@larsenmats
@larsenmats 4 года назад
Why would you say the ECS V1 is good for Demos but not games? Do you mean the 50Hz not saving profile properly issue? I have both ECS V1 and ECS V2. ECS V1 reads directly from the Amiga to give the full overscan picture. 50Hz mode works fine but it will often forget the setting after a coldboot. So you have to change it back with the config tool. Or coldboot it until it changes. 60Hz mode works fine too, with full overscan. But of course, not smooth srolling in PAL software when running 60Hz. ECS V2 is alot more configuring to try and get a nice picture for games. It still has issues when trying to make full overscan profiles for games. Or using the ones that comes with it. Even with the latest firmware. In games like disposable hero you will get a blinking border on the right side of the picture. Arkanoid still misses a few pixels on the right side of the picture. ECS V1 shows the full overscan correctly. It just scandoubles the native picture output it seems. I have posted in the icomp forums about these issues and am waiting for a reply. In general all VGA based Indivision products like ECS V1, ECS V2 and Turbo Chameleon 64 V2 has ghosting in the picture when using the VGA output. At least with LCD screens which I'm using. I am using BenQ BL 702A and BL 912 screens which will handle Amigas 15KHz signal perfectly and looks really good when the pixel clocks/phaseclocks are finetuned. So I use these plugged directly into Amiga RGB port. The VGA output of ECS V1 and V2 is not as sharp. And as I said, has some ghosting. However, if I want scanlines then I the VGA output of ECS V1/V2 is handy. And of course, if I wanted a flicker free hi-res interlaced workbench picture then the ECS V1/V2 is nice for that. As they are scandoublers/flickerfixers.

Use the BenQ BL702A VGA 17inch monitor and the old Indivision ECS V1 don’t like WHDLoad Games to Full the screen. Have the Indivision ECS V2 and now it work great with my monitor. Have now PAL High Res Laced 640x512 50Hz and 1280x1024 60Hz. Must tweak the settings with it. Would be great if it have Live-modus such as on the Indivision AGA MK3 which I like on my A1200.
@EzdineGaray

That is an interesting result. I do not believe a REAL ECS Denise will work with an OCS Agnus, so there must be some differences between the emulated ECS chip and a real one. Good differences, it seems ;)

So I built myself an A500 Plus. Bought an A500 Plus motherboard with no chips from ebay and was thinking I should use my Indivision ECS V2 as Super Denise replacement. Now, I have been using it with the VGA output previously. And found an issue with Arkanoid where a few pixels on the right side of the picture was missing and also blinking vertical bars on left and right side of picture in the game disposable hero. It had nothing to do with settings or profiles. No matter what adjustment or profiles I used would get rid of these issues. Would need a new firmware to fix this. No respond from icomp forums yet. So today I replaced a regular ECS Denise I had in this new A500 Plus with my ECS V2. I plugged in my RGB cable instead of using the VGA and to my surprise the issues are there when using RGB aswell! First thing I noticed was in classic workbench the image was still centered like when using the real denise but now had a thin black bar on the right side of the picture. Clearly showing that the ECS V2 is missing a small part of the right overscan area. And the same issues in Arkanoid and Disposable Hero. Keep in mind all my testing is using PAL mode. I have updated my thread in the icomp forums hoping that the devs will reply and maybe fix this with a new firmware. Maybe you could test this, Amiga Retro Adventures?
@amigaretro4765
@amigaretro4765 4 года назад
Interesting. I will test this later tonight or tomorrow and get back to you. Are you using a WHDLoad install or disk based version of Arkanoid?
@larsenmats
@larsenmats 4 года назад
@@amigaretro4765 whdload version. It will not matter anyway. This is an issue with the ECS version 2. I centered the picture in classic workbench with the real Denise and had grey background around the picture with no visible black bars, then put the ECS V2 in and had a small black bar on the right side of the picture. Which is the missing pixels in Arkanoid. I use a BenQ BL 702A LED screen. So clearly the ECS 2 is missing part of the right overscan area. And disposable hero have flashing black bars left and right of the picture. This will not happen with the original Denise. Looking forward to hear your results.

@@larsenmats, I also get the same issues you are experiencing on these games. In regards to Disposable Hero, there is definitely issues going on here (Indivision ECS V2 related). Though the game is still playable, it is rather distracting. I hope the guys at Individual Computers can resolve the issue. The video output is cleaner than the ECS V1 and has more features as well.

@larsenmats 4 года назад
@@amigaretro4765 I also found that Super Frog has the flashing borders. Today I got a response from the devs in the icomp forums. They are looking into this issue. But said that a few missing pixels in the right border (like for Arkanoid) was acceptable. I don't think so. I think we should have the full overscan area. I don't see a reason why not. The last firmware for this product came out almost a year ago. I really hope they fix these issues. It's not acceptable. Especially the flashing borders. There are probably more games with this issue.
