Amiga on the Raspberry Pi with DietPi and Amiberry: I got the Pi 400 to work!

How funny is that? I used to hate how noisy the internal drive was on my 1200 and now people are emulating it because they miss it!!! What's next? Buying a square 2 button mouse that gives you cramps??? Lol

@@samuelbanya no sorry, Amiga is my thing, Atari is not.

I am no expert with dietpi or amiberry, but I guess you can check the settings in amiberry. There is a mouse and joystick settings section.

LOL. Yes, the A500 mini is more expensive, but has more limitations.

@@andydavidson1278 Indeed. Also remember the pi400 has the built-in keyboard, a similar configuration to the Amiga 500. The a500 mini has a fake keyboard 🤮

I wonder if the makers of DietPi added something, because as you see in the video, I don't think there were any Amiberry questions. Perhaps you can download the previous version? I would pose your concerns to the DietPi developer. They were very responsive to my questions, even before I revealed that I was making a video. I am curious about those extra questions...

So AmiBerry is crashing. I don't know if I've ever had that happen to me. No known issue that I know of. That's the thing with emulators, you just have to keep trying different settings until you get the closest one. I guess it goes back to the definition of an emulator.

@@retrofriends Actually, tried again this morning just on the intro screen of a game. What does happen, is that it quits ALL the way to the dietpi terminal login screen. So would that not indicate it is quitting UAE altogether? I would have thought the Amiga crashing would put me back to the UAE UI?

I would look into RetroPie. That seems to have an emulator for everything.

Does Recalbox work with all models of Raspi including the 400? I think the method outlined in my video can be done in less than 15 minutes. DietPi uses Amiberry, so all models of Amiga, adf, whdload, etc are supported.

@@retrofriends Hi, yes, Recalbox works perfectly well with every variant from Pi2 up to Pi400, but unlike your setup, it is aimed primarily at people who just want to play games, and not bother with the full Amiga "experience" that us fellow Amiga owners were used to. It was just to mention an alternative IF just booting up the games was the main objective tbh. Keep up the good work.

Recalbox is at the moment NOT working on Raspberry Pi 400, at least not on mine... And as I can see on their forum, I'm not the only one. But I think it is just a question of time.

@@Iggyman007 There is an updated 7.1.1 download on their homepage specifically for the Pi 4 & 400 only, and there are lots of users who are having no issues. Ive been a contributor on their forum for a few years and don't see significant numbers of Pi 400 issues. Well, not many more than with any other new build to be honest.

@@smurphoid Hey Stephen, would I be able to pick your brains on getting my Amiga games working on PI400 via Recalbox? Probably a couple of easy questions!

The makers of all these Amiberry distros always include a file manager for a reason.

@@retrofriends I understand, but can you not use samba or ssh to load the games and roms?

@@stephenwoods4175 Well, you can't use SSH for that because It is simply a remote way to access the OS command line. I recommend you look at the DietPi website for more info. I am not a part of their development team - I consider myself an Amiga expert, not a Linux expert. I do know you can install and enable anything you want if you are familiar with Linux (RaspberryPi OS technically). Options include file server, an NVR, VPN, Wi-Fi hotspot, router, etc. etc. The purpose of this video is to show how to use DietPi in the simplest way possible.

@@stephenwoods4175 Of course, it's a full Amiga emulation. Use exactly the same methods outlined by others to install WHDLoad. So many tutorials on it, that I felt redundant including it.

I think you should contact the developer about those issues. They were very responsive when I did. That was before they knew I was doing a video.
