That's a bold statement as my knowledge about operatic sopranos is basic. Though to a degree I can go with it, but at this moment, Maria is still the greatest for now. (One does not know how much Amira will develop in the future.
Yes, she has a beautiful voice, but Maria Callas could act and sing at the same time... people fail to recognise this distinction, when focussing on the voice alone. It is hard to compare across generations.
tonight I saw the movie-- "As It Is In Heaven" In Swedish with english sub titles. Now I understand the song and appreciate even more than I thought was possible. I never thought anyone could pull up a feeling like that and I am 85 and thought I had heard it all. But that's Amira for you, She never fails to make you raise your eyebrows. My reaction is invariably "Well, she's done it again now I can sleep happily peacefully.
Amira has arrived she is not just the greatest living soprano she is the greatest soprano of all time we the public are so very lucky that this is happening while we are alive to hear it. I am 70 and I have never heard a soprano like her.

Between the tears and the blowing of my nose, the more I watch and listen to Amira, the more rolls of paper towels I go through. She is something else. Certainly one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard! She turned 15 two months after this performance. I wish her continued success, and may she and Miss Evancho become friends and co-performers. At least for an album or two...Amira is the greatest soprano in the world today at only 15!
She has something that no one else has, she manages to enchant and break your soul with her presence and smile, her voice pierces any soul, and seeing her say goodbye with her hand at the end is unique to her. Always Bravo .... Amira Bravisimo. .....
What more can one say, she's simply a darling in so many wonderful ways. It's like watching a beautiful flower slowly awaken. And after all these years she still remains true to her inner self, and isn't it always such a special treat to see that childlike wave which is always accompanied by that beautiful and never ending smile that draws us towards her, and keeps us spellbound. And the love, you can still hear and feel it in her voice. It's hard to believe that eight years has gone by since her first public performance in the park on Queens day. She's still holding back though while her voice develops in a more natural way. It's almost as though she were teasing us, but I have no doubt that the best is yet to come, she's just saving it for us. I can't help it, but I'm still teary.
By holding back, I don't think Amira is holding back in magnificently and powerfully singing songs like this. It seems to pertain to what Amira said in a recent magazine interview: "I can't sing the same kind of songs forever. There comes a time when I have to start singing the more difficult opera arias, with all these coloraturas and difficult parts." We do wait to hear, as you say, for the best that is yet to come, that she is just saving for us. I think the video clips of her "O Mio Babbino Caro" performance at the Il Divo pre-concert and the video of her "Barcelona" duet with Ruhan du Toit, available on this Gsacni channel, provide us with a glimpse of what lies ahead.
The song is a little more than 3 minutes in length, yet I need to hear only the first phrase to know it will be an incredible experience. For Amira, I never wait until the end to applaud; I click the thumb-up immediately. I don't think it will distract her.

I read everyone's concern in comparing Amira's talent with other lyric singers, my conclusion in this useless effort of many is that even though Amira is not the most technical and qualified lyric singer in the world, as some critics suggest, she is the only one I I would pay a ticket to watch, the first one I look for on the internet when I feel the need for peace and reflection, and this is what matters to me, the rest are fragile, empty analyzes and in my opinion useless ...

I have listened to the others for one song only but could tell they were not in the same league as Amira, her gift transcends our understanding. No matter what you taste is in music, whenever you heat something that is amazing, you cannot ignore it. Since finding Amira, l listen to her every day and everyday l cry so beautiful is her singing. As with any comparisons there will be lots of debate but one thing that should be agreed is that Amira is unique in her own way, and being so young she will improve on her incredible talent. Lets just be thankful to her singing for us. Thank you Amira.

Yes Mike - just listened to this again - and, WOW - it moves you - not Nessun Dorma or Nella Fantasia but this has grown on me and I was actually there at CIG 2018 - a year ago - when I experienced Amira LIVE for the first time - she draws you back over and over again....how many can do that!

'Crystal-clear angelic voice', you made a description of what I was thinking, but couldn't find the words for it (not my native language). Some say that she is not more than average, but for me the crystal resonant in her voice is something I never heard before.

How do you express in words the sound of a singing voice that is so pleasing to the ear? Just as the sound of silence in a forest with the birds singing and the tree leaves rustling is about as beautiful a sound as there is on earth, the sound of Amira's singing voice makes me shake my head in humble admiration. You can use what ever technical terms you wish- tenor, timbre, depth, breadth, soulful, full, rich, smooth-this little girl has it, at least for me. I've said many times before that a beautiful singing voice is one of the talents God passes out very carefully and very infrequently. God gave Amira this talent. I am so thankful my 66-year-old ears are able to listen to her and appreciate the sound. Just as God gave clarinetist Pete Fountain the talent which distinguished his sound from all others, God also placed his hand on Amira. What I could do with Jeff Bezos' money. I would assemble, Amira, Paul Potts, Il volo, Susan Boyle, Jonas Kaufmann, Jackie Evancho, Nathan Pacheco, Laura Bretan, Armenian violinist Samvel Yervinyan and my other favorites and give each of them every possible advantage they would need to promote their talent. Instead of going to Mars, I would spread the talents of these individuals throughout the earth. We have all seen videos on RU-vid of animals listening to people playing the piano, harp and other instruments. Imagine the fantastic concert we could give the animals if we assembled all these singers in a giant field or pasture? The animals would come from miles around to listen. Predator and prey would sit next to each other. Abused animals could feel and listen to love for the first time. I don't know about you, but these are the scenes I want to see in my heaven and the sounds I want to hear.
No she is singing in swedish with a dutch accent. I am from Sweden. I have seen the film where Helen Sjöholm sings the song. I don't know if the film has an english title but translated to english the title is "Like in heaven". The music is composed by Stefan Nilsson who also has composed music to a number of other swedish films. The lyrics is written by Py Bäckman (Baeckman).
I don't speak italian so I cant't give a fair judgement whether her swedish is better then her italian. Her swedish is fine. Her weakest point in my opinion has been the articulation but she getting better and better. Her voice is, as many commenters here say, fantastic. Maybe I'm going to far here but I think that if she go for it she will be one of the best operasingers in the world.
@@hb6175 Hi and thanks for your reply. Opera singing at its finest, is incredibly difficult and incredibly rare. You see, around the world there must be hundreds of fine sopranos who do not reach notoriety, who are at least as good as Amira is, but only very few who go the extra yeard and become extraordinary..Also there have been a few children prodigy in the past that did not make it in adulthood, because you may sound amusing as a kid, but sound like everybody else as an adult..I'll be honest with you, in my experience (i'm not an expert, but i've watched thousands of artists on videos) to a trained hear, Amira is nothing special or above average! She's is just being sensationalised for being a child prodigy, and the winner of Hgt! But from here to stating she will become one of the best of all time, there's an incredible amount stacked against the odds that she has to overcome, in order to make it at the very top! Of course she may well do it, but chances are she won't! Proper opera singing you see, is a different kettle of fish, not to be confused with Popera, or cross-over singing. But time will tell, and i do wish her the best..regards..Sergio.
She is a muse sent from God, and belong in heaven. This pure voice and loving soul, can bring grumpy men, and angry unholy evil women to tears, and goosebumps. We now have Angelina Jordan, and Amira Willighagen in the world of music, and both have the ability to show us the power of love and perfection in their singing, in different music styles. I hope they stay on the narrow path, and are surrounded by the right people, and keep their gift protected in the future.
