I grew up in an Amish home, and I knew both of Joas's parents, Ora and Orpha. I very well remember those Amish church meals, especially the peanut butter mix. I remember when I was about 14 years old that I learned that non-Amish people actually ate peanut butter the way it came in the can, which seemed odd to me, since our family only had the mixed type. We also had pickled beets and pickles at these lunches, but the pickles were always sweet pickles. If there were small pickles us boys would stab them with a fork and dunk them into the peanut butter. YUM ! I never heard of dill pickles until I ate at a restaurant, and to this day I have not acquired a liking for them. I have been involved with a Country/Gospel music group which has a 3 day music weekend at a local campground, and for Sunday lunch we put up an Amish style lunch with homemade bread, peanut butter, apple butter, and ham and cheese. Our Facebook page is Boardwalk Music Group.

Thank you again for sharing. I'm going to have to try these recipes with my grandchildren. We live in Ohio and take trips to our Amish Country as often as we're able. It's the only place we really love to go. I always buy the sweet beets and once in awhile the Amish peanut butter. What a treat!!! I love wholesome things and wholesome families. ❤ God bless you and yours.

About 30 years ago, I went to Lancaster County, PA. I ate at a family dining restaurant. It was amazing! We sat with people at a big table that were from everywhere. We are scrapple, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, succotash, homemade bread, shoofly pie, iced tea, and coffee. The Amish people were lovely. I remember the famiily name, Yoder. Funny the things that you remember. I wanted to get a quilt in the worse way. I think the pattern was called corn and beans. Thank you for reminding me of a kinder time in the world.❤️

My childhood favorite!!! My Amish great-grandmother used Honey/peanut butter or Karo/Peanut Butter AND when she made homemade Chokecherry syrup she used that and peanut butter! I remember during Holiday's she would make homemade whip cream to add to the mixture. Of course, we didn't have sliced bread... we had homemade fresh bread and buns and OH SO GOOD!!!!! Thank you for sharing an old Amish fav.

Everyone is making comments about the sugar content of the traditional but jam and jelly has a lot of sugar also and no one thinks about that because it’s our traditional. I think sugar is good within limits and so glad y’all shared this. I can tell when you share a part of your heritage that you have many fond memories. It was a beautiful video and a fun time with your children. I came from a large family and we used to see who could eat ten soda crackers and whistle first. I loved this video! My dad used to make something like this and my sisters and I called it “daddy’s peanut butter “. Didn’t realize it probably came from his Amish heritage! His parents were married and had their three oldest children before they left the Amish church. My dad was the youngest of 6 siblings. I bet grandma made this because the older children remembered it from Amish church. ❤️🙂

So glad to see you posted. I love peanut butter and honey mixed up thinly and on fresh hot homemade buns out of the oven. So so good.......that reminds me of high school days after church we went to the big dining room and that was one of the beginnings along with eggs or oatmeal for a big breakfast before the day of school. I used to work in the scullery and wash those big kettles and oh my they were huge. The peanut butter and honey mixed together and spread was soooooo delicious however. I as well love pickled beets.
