Twice I have had visited Lancaster, Pennsylvania as the Amish community as I have had seen the simple life of the Amish people in the Amish community in my field trips in my previous experiences in a fact.
Do not buy dogs from the Amish. They are really well known for being incredibly abusive to their breeding stock, and dumping them on local rescues when they are no longer able to produce. I live in Lancaster county Pennsylvania surrounded by the Amish and it's a huge problem.
I agree that it's a very disciplined group, but I found it interesting about the Rumspringa and that they give a chance to enjoy modern conveniences and socialize outside their community before making a commitment to being Amish.
