Come along and watch as the AMISH of Paradise in Lancaster County fill silo with corn to make silage. Teams of Belgian draft horses and draft mules pull the chopper and wagons as the silo is filled with food for the winter.
Hard working horses for sure and it will feel good to have silage for the cattle all filled up ready for the winter! And the hay barn full as well. I am sure things are winding down for harvesting! Thanks to the Amish family for welcoming you to videograph them and their horses. I was surprised how one gentleman take on the GoPro on his hat to show us how his horse will start off the row to be cut.
All that work to open a field, you could almost just leave a gap when planting be easier. I have an old mare almost 30 and she is fully retired I guess. She just can't keep up with the younger ones at real work. I've helped change heads on NH harvesters before...we did it a little smoother than that lol. Anyhow, nice to see boys working, reminds me of when I was that age on the dairy farm.
Thanks for watching. Land is at a premium here and most everywhere. Not much of a farm is left unused. Changing the head was a hoot. We couldn’t find the chain usually used.
Thank you sir for maken such a informative video I had no ideal this is how it was done. im going to subscribe and like .. this is one of best videos on youtube
The emulgents you mentioned spraying on silage before it enters the silos . Is that like a syrup base or molasses just curious . And its obviously applied for a reason what does it do . Thanks for a great video I hope I spelled it right !!! Beautiful work animals, doing what they love to do ,what a wonderful sight . God Bless Don’t worry about my question I found the answer . I’m sorry I asked I should have did my homework . The fermentation process is quite a story in itself . To a person that dosent know these things it isn’t really thought of .
That guy needs some practice driving horses so that he doesn’t miss any corn that would’ve not worked on our farm. We picked up every year that we missed with the horses that’s interesting. Is they use tractors but not for everything and some of them have steel wheels, and some of them have rubber
@@mrdenson3101 , where do you see animals being abused? Working an animal isn’t abuse just as a human doing manual labor isn’t abuse. Do you hold animals in a higher regard than manual laborers?
@@LancoAmish no sir, I am not against your work. Quite the opposite. You rode on a motorised device and used modern technology. This makes me believe that you are not against using technology tools to do your work. Most work is manual and I would have no issues with you if you use horses because you can’t afford more advanced farming tools. But burdening God’s creatures to unnecessary labor as a political statement against the world just doesn’t sit well with me. God gave us the world to look after it and not to abuse it
Family owned dairy farms that are still economically viable while tens of thousands of others have been shuttered over the past half century. Perhaps it’s not as stupid as you think.
@@randyturnquist1254 , they don’t pay what taxes? They pay everything anyone else does except Social Security taxes…which they do not draw from. In fact they pay double the school taxes everywhere they live…their own and the public schools. For someone that “knows it all” you don’t know much. Why have the Amish been able to continue their small family dairies at a much higher rate than non-Amish? Perhaps they’re onto something using a combination of horses and powered equipment ehhhh?
These people don’t I’ve a fk about the animals. They are just tools for them to use and abuse. When they get sick they just throw them aside and let them die slow and painful death then dig a big hole and dump them out back. They don’t care about their animals, women or their own children. The men are the only ones that have any say. The women are treated as insignificant. Only for cooking, cleaning and breeding. If they want sex they turn to smaller animals or other men in their group. Ive lived close to these people for decades and seen some stuff that would turn your stomach.
@@LancoAmishhe’s right! They treat their animals like shit!!, I know these people and what they are capable of. The men are vile human beings. They treat their women like shit. They are only for cooking, cleaning and breeding. If the men want sex, they turn to smaller barnyard animals or other men in their group.
