That was brilliant...i saw ray many times on the British circuit late 70s early 80s. bless him for bringing us his pure rockabilly style...we had great times back then...❤
Ronnie Mack is wonderful. You can see the origins of what the European bands with the music in the mid 70's on. This is sort of where original Texas Rockabilly meets the neo-Rockabilly which exploded in Britian and Europe in the 70's/80's.
I was there when it happened in the UK and Europe in the late 70's when Ray was holding a massive Rockabilly torch lighting up the Revival all across the scene..Himself and Colin Winski, The Polecats, Restless, Mac Curtis, Crazy Cavan, Charlie Feathers...were all major forces in the Rockabilly scene long long before we even heard of the Stray Cats...Ray was the KING!!!! I love him, will miss him...Long live Ray, Long Live Rockabilly...
Ray was an icon of Rockabilly. An evangelist of this style when it was endangered. As someone with a lifetime love of this music, I feel we are indebted to him.
A real pioneer, a true legend and an dedicated educator both in the conventional way and as an music innovator. He stayed loyal to the very end to his first true love: Rockabilly!!!! R.I.P.
Watching this video which back then does bring back memories which with nine years I would find myself doing this but many others that were part of that craze Ray Campi was among those pioneers even though he wasn't a major star he simply had a following which the Rollin Rock Recordings he did in the 70's brought him acclaim. I never met the man but the folks who met or worked with him he was a amazing guy that had stories to tell from the scene was like when rockabilly was just exploding. He may be gone but he'll never be forgotten RIP Ray Campi.
The digging and dating performance contains the best dose of really original RAB Energy....a lot of performers in Europe and to a large extent here have the pizza box and some of the ingredients but you don't get a whole (and sometimes none at all) pizza. Too many bands and even a lot of the original artists were by the 70's and 80's playing by rote. So you got the pizza box but not really the Pizza Pie you came out for.
