On the subject of the Ghul though... I really really enjoyed how he stalked you in the radio building. Like he was climbing that fence and watching me before he jumped back down, When I was repairing the cannon he peeked out and stared. I run by said fence again and his hands barely trail down hinting that he was hanging on it and watching. They did REALLY good with the stalking at the beginning

Speaking of spooky, I finally got into Amnesia the Dark Descent.... All the horrifying hype has fully been lived up to and it’s genuinely fantastic.

This game was developed by a new team of people in Frictional Games, you can even see that in the credits. I do think that they managed to create something cool, but I wish we had a "real" threat... I'm not a fan of most of the plot parts explained in the end.

I think the Wraiths should haw been hunting you when you entered the other world the first time right after the statue there is too much walking in the area and a good chase would improve it they just put in custom stories and mods so lets hope somebody will fix it also too much matches

man, imaging clicking on a charlatan wonder video and thinking how wholesome it is that he talks fondly of being snuggly and playing spookies with his wife *and then immediately being personally attacked* my pain is immeasurable and my day is ruined (i kid i'm not mad i just had fun playing into the bit)

I kind of disagree when it comes to the story, it feels like there was too much focus on it to the point it was too ambitious and the other aspects of the game were simplified or even overlooked, like horror. Spoilers incoming: The story feels like a mix of the goals The Dark Descent and SOMA tried to achieve but Rebirth doesn't do neither one as good. TDD was shrouded in mystery and left a lot to the imagination, the setting was somewhat more relatable and real while the monsters were the most alien and most discouraging thing to engage with, (even being close to them was a bad idea). Rebirth, on the other hand tries to show the "impossible geometry" and have the monsters to be the center of attention (monsters attack involve you looking at them in detail while struggling) so then, the mystery is gone. I think what's Alien should remain Alien for it to work. That's why movies like The Thing work, or, a better example why Lovecraft's writing works. (The roots of Amnesia always had a lovecraftian root anyway) On the other hand, the game tries going for a SOMA-style storytelling as well, this involving the crew of the Cassandra, your baby and the people of the otherworld for a trolley problem scenario. SOMA's scenario worked because anyone could put themselves in the scenario the protagonist was in, while on Rebirth it is most effective if you're a parent yourself, otherwise it will not hit as hard. It's also worth mentioning how SOMA took care of their characters by slowly introducing each one and actually having you engage with them directly. Rebirth's characters felt underdeveloped and all of them are thrown almost at once, most of them simply being expanded upon them by having a card with their Bio on them and a small commentary through a flashbacks. It feels like the characters exist to react to their environment and then die. Also, the reason why I'm saying it was too ambitious is because the game is overdosed in story, the drama of the crew of the Cassandra, the politics and morals issues of the otherworld, the connection to the first game, the backstory of Tasi's family. It's all happening to the point you might have to play it twice to understand it. It's messy. Just to finish, I think this ambition hurts other aspects of the game, the levels are far more lineal to the point it kind of feels like a walking sim for a while, as well as a lack of management of health and fear/sanity. Which means there's no sense of exploration, and no big levels to go through, since there's no need for them. Take a look at the maps of Penumbra or a level like The Dungeons in TDD. There's none of that in Rebirth. I don't think the game is bad by any means, but I don't consider it good either.

personally I would say the Fortress was quite effective at breaking up the exposition sequence with the Ghoul prancing about in the dark but maybe that´s just me one thing I would have changed though, is that I would have changed the scripted chase sequence into a regular stealth encounter or at least moved it to a later stage or remove it entirely since I would say a much better one comes later in the cistern tunnels

I played rebirth first and then the dark descent second and I think I have an interesting take on these games. I liked rebirth more, I also thought it was scarier despite being very few scary moments though. Around like 70% of the scares actually got me while around 20% of the scares in the dark descent got me. I also love the exploration and scavenging aspect of rebirth with their being many more objects that could be picked up and more items that are hidden behind stuff and in boxes. I actually cared about the characters and story compared to the first one where it was kinda just happening without me paying attention at all. I do wish there were more monster chases and hiding segments though and I wish that the monsters were faster than you like in the dark descent but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I also really loved the addition of talking enemies, when the person/creature is taunting, insulting, and threatening you while your hiding is so fun and I wish more horror games had that. I really dislike these type of walking sim horror games with a heavy story but rebirth is the first game like that that just clicked with me.

This game is good, but yes the scares were a let down. It felt like they chases weren't thought out very well. And it feels like it's missing something, like a good mentor, kind of like a Catherine from Soma, or Red from Penumbra, or yet maybe like Gabriel form Penumbra-Black Plague. (who yes was evil but a mentor nonetheless.) That would have helped my immersion in the game and story immensely.

I thoroughly enjoyed Amnesia Rebirth. Soma however, made a greater impact on me in terms of story telling and immersion. It really got to me like no other game has before or since. I highly recommend Soma to anyone who hasn't played it yet.

I was attacked by/gotten by both the ghoul and the wraith once for each. They never despawned for me.

I watched a guy called Gopher play it and while I was never fully scared by it, it certainly had me tense for most of the game. The fact that the person who played it was basically "in character" for most of it certainly helped with that.

Im tired of people acting like A Machine for pigs sucks when it dosen't.. like at all. People to this day are still salty that Frictional didn't develop it and that by its self dictates people opinion on the game. Its actually kinda sad seeing people so blinded by bias and youtuber opinions that they bash a genuinely good story drive horror experience.

Bro i love the fact that he uses his cat as one of the characters that other commentator channels do. Its so creative, funny, and cute.

A few days ago I jumped into Amnesia:TTD completely blind and sat through the entire thing in one day. I wish I still wore diapers by the end but the story and horror elements were just so good that I couldn't stop. Rebirth seems like a dumbed down version of that experience, decent but not nearly as good as the first game.

You can get a 2 tb SSD for $200-$250 these days. I haven't had a mechanical drive in years.

I wish Frictional tried experimenting with gameplay a bit. They may have invented the run'n'hide horror playstyle, but it's been so oversaturated in the last decade. It's become a very predictable template and while other devs tried doing new things, Frictional haven't really changed the formula since Penumbra.

I personally have no interest in playing horror games. The only one I've ever completed is Silent Hill and I loved it, though. Great video as always. Oh, and to be honest, I get more spooked playing Minecraft than horror games. I instinctively stop getting immersed in horror games and just try messing around with stuff. Games like that also just tend to not keep me interested.

I am dissapointed that you cant linger in darkness like in TDD, instead now it just game punches you for lingering in darkness just to conserve oil and/or avoid enemies. In TDD, I used darkness for cost of my sanity going further and further down and vision shortened to avoid enemies (lingering or that may spawn) and to conserve oil if I wanted to venture trough hallways where I was before so I did not needed oil to know where I am going. Also, rebirth has less inventory spaces and oil wastes much faster. Dont like it. Enemies? I mean, its fine, but I really miss the technique of dodging enemies in TDD, but in rebirth getting close it is good chance they grab you. And I am not in favour of having this game reminded every so often that Tasi is pregnant and baby baby bay pls calm in my belly.

Amnesia: Rebirth isn't meant to be spooky. Frictional Games don't want to make new games to scare players but rather tell a story in horror environment. Monsters aren't meant to be a real threat either, they are there to progress the story and create temporary obstacles. This is basically SOMA in easy mode and I'm perfectly ok with that.

I cant say i liked this much. Forcing a pregnant woman to go through *this* just felt like torture porn to me. Blech

Spoilers Honestly, the endings in this game stung me so badly. It's hard to rely on the Empress since you know that she already lied to you about the fountain and Amari is the only real companion and driving force you have in the game, so it's tear-jerking to have to wonder if you should give her up or not.
