still rememnber when this came out. dark tanquillity and in flames were already stars in the making back in ´98 but amon amarth was fresh blood on melodeath scene, they were different and found their own style
wow never heard their debut before and I am stunned! what a beautiful raw melodic death metal with black metal influences. And those stories... Pity they do not make such music anymore...
Fate of Norns, in my opinion, was their peak. Personally I'm glad they evolved past this, because black metal sounds really bad and it's hard not to notice the influence. It's like the drummer couldn't keep up at certain points and it screws with your head. Plus, yknow, being able to understand Johan is pretty cool. And I value hearing metal about my ancestors and theirs in a way that I can understand without a visual aid.
Love the black metal influence in Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds, This and The Avenger. The near melancholic guitars (such as in the closing section of the title track of the Nine Worlds) and the raw, almost painful screams of Johan really make them stand out.
Nothing about the first two albums is black metal lol. Tremolo picking is literally a foundational technique of the death metal genre and its hilarious how surprised you people are the fact that Early Amon Amarth is rooted into OSDM.
@@RedgraveGilver You are totally wrong. Oldschool death metal never sounded like this record. Obituary is oldschool death metal and it has nothing to do with Amon Amarth's early work.
The first song set the tone for all other songs to follow and established Amon Amarth as the greatest band. I grew up in the 70s and this was the sound I was longing for. Thank you! 🤘
All albums up to Twilight of the Thunder God were all-killer, no-filler Melodic Death Metal. In my opinion everything after was repetitions of themes and sounds that worked, and what was more broadly popular in the metal fanbase. But these formative albums were sonic Ragnarok; a valkyrie charge of driving force and a berserkers war cry of vocals. This debut is one of the strongest debuts in the genre, and for me hasn't been matched since.
Every Amon Amarth album since has been them trying to outdo their initial effort. They've come close a couple times, but their first is still their best.
@@chinhoification For sure. Andersson's drumming is great - it's furious, tight, and powerful, but Lopez's drums on that first album are absolutely ferocious. There's an intensity to Once Sent From The Golden Hall that I've always attributed largely to the drumming, which Amon Amarth just never recaptured without Lopez.
I have the feeling everyone in the Metal Scene forgets how AWESOME and ORIGINAL this album is. It is raw, brutal, there are sooo many great riffs in each song and the two monumental 8-minute epics are great🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 A live show where they play the whole thing would be fantastic ;)
Once Sent from the Golden Hall’s anniversaries through the years. 🤘🎸🗡️🇸🇪 1998: First being released 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003: 5th Anniversary 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008: 10th Anniversary 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013: 15th Anniversary 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018: 20th Anniversary 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023: 25th Anniversary
Such a fantastic work, I remember when this was new I mustve listened to Victorious March like 1000 times that year, when I was like 15 lol killer track!
Yeaaahh victorious march was something else. I used to run a lot in college and I listen to that song in particular towards the end of the run to get me thru haha
I DO NOT CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK ,BUT FREDRIK WAS THE BEAST BACK THEN, AND I AM 60 AND PROBALBY 10 OF THE BEST DRUMMERS IN MY LIFE TIME. THAT I LIKE AND ADMIRE..
@@vagueofficialMartin Lopez played drums on “Once Sent From Golden Halls”. This is the only album that features Martin Lopez before he left to join Opeth.
classic. perhaps the best live band i know, if you get the chance go see them. If you do, say hi, im the guy in the moshpit shouting all the lyrics on the top of my lungs
@@Chaoslorden idk they're still pretty death metal just not as raw which is fine. Their newer stuff is great. Definitely not heavy metal. And they're old, what do you expect? Literally every band isnt how they used to be when they get old.
Yeah. This album is top 3 AA for sure. For me, these guys are another one where the tr00 kvlt attitude of "first albums" only kind of rings true. Sorry AA dudes but I've not even truely bothered to listen to the latest albums, not really since Twilight... Plodding, templated and cheesy. Their earlier works seem far more inspired. Melodic but still badass. Turning to the myths makes for better lyrics than the tv-show-esque "VIKINGS! HORNS! SHIELDS! THOR!" of the last ten years or whatever of releases. Even the more 'mundane' viking themes like in Dragons Flight come across better here. I wasn't "far" into non-mainstream metal when I came across these guys. I'd not really heard guitars like this unti this album, or early Opeth. It was a pretty cool discovery.
DAS ERSTE OFFIZIELLE ALBUM WAR SCHON EIN BESTSELLER!!!! ABER DAS WAR SCHON DAS 2 TE,,,,,, ES GAB SCHON EIN INOFFIZIELLES ALBUM DAVOR!!!!!💥💥💥💥🤟🤟🤟👍👍👍👌👌👌🤘🤘🤘🤘💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💥💥💥
I listen to this, and the algorithm decides that I need to see a movie about the Chippendales. Not that I mind, but what is the Venn diagram of Amon Amarth fans and male stripping enthusiasts?
@@BlastinRope yeah because it’s illegal to be white. I get the joke. Don’t worry tho. Breaking point is soon, it’s not going to be banned before race war
Put this album on high volume, drank some mead, braided my beard, sharpened my axe, went out and slaughtered some invaders, then came home and drank some more mead. It was a great day.
