In India, Govt planted Eucalyptus trees in forest lands. The result was terrific, Eucalyptus reduced ground water levels, almost all other natural tree species got destroyed, and animals had to leave those forest areas due to lack of food. World Bank wanted every forest replaced with Eucalyptus trees, and they only funded the Indian Govt to plant these trees. Eucalyptus tree plantations transformed the once lush green forests to look like barren land.

That sounds interesting - I've heard some species of eucalyptus take up a lot of water. Do you know the species they used?

Massive invasive in South Africa. Create eucalyptus "deserts" where nothing else grows or lives

The plantation drive was never about reforesting, it was planted to provide pulp for textile industries. The govt and corporate went hand in hand.

@@outofdangerproject I am Not sure about the name of the specious dear. They planted eucalyptus and acacia trees on millions of acres of forest land as per the instruction from the World Bank which funded the project. But now Govt has realized the damage these trees have done on the forest land, and many states Govt banned planting these two trees even on private lands. It is always better for nature to plant fruits bearing native trees in the forest. You can search in Google "Karnataka state govt bans planting eucalyptus, acacia trees owing to impact on ground water level"

I saw one in Florida a few years ago and initially thought it was a fake tree. The colors on the trunk were varied and amazing.

I agree - when they are showing all of their colors, they almost look painted. A very beautiful tree

Amazing video! It is important to note though that Eucalyptus deglupta is nonnative in Luzon/Visayas in relation to its natural biogeographical distribution. Hopefully we plant more of those plants that are suited to the area. Native plants under the genus Ficus could be an amazing choice for rewilding the area. Thank you!

I wanted to give you an update that you can pass on. I ordered my rainbow seeds for bonsai and used the paper towel method and waited until i saw green before i moved them into the peat pods (5-6 days). Out of the 50 seeds sent 40 of them made it doing it that way. I think i would have had more but i lost some due to me messing with them and not the seed.

Thank you for the info! Let us know how the growing process goes. 40 trees will still be a lot! I've read they root easily from cuttings if the tree you get the cuttings from is 1 year old or less, so if you are wanting more, that's potentially a way to get them. Wow! I’ve been looking for a channel like this for a long time now! I’m growing many eucalyptus species indoors since the outdoor climate is very cold for them here. I’ve had a problem with my rainbow eucalyptus, maybe you can help? Its lowest branches die off, and all the upper branches tend to bend to the ground like a weeping willow, don’t know what to do actually(

@@outofdangerproject My rainbow eucalyptus is 2 years old, it’s about 180 cm. It’s near south facing window, I also use growing lights. Its branches started to face down last winter I guess, now it produces such branches often. It really harms its appearance(

@@avdeyfurmanyuk8108 I would think that would be enough light. I'm not sure how they do as potted plants or what the protocol would be in terms of trimming, repotting, etc. One thing to note is that they do well with ectomycorrhizal fungi, so treating it with that might help, but I'm guessing at this point. Sorry I can't be of much more help than that. Maybe someone else will be able to comment with some help.

Thanks! Most have shown a nice the lime green when the bark peeled within the first year. This one is starting to have reddish/maroon bark at some stages of the bark aging, but I'm still waiting for the bright red I see in some of the trees nearby. I'll try to update this one in February again if not sooner. This one has already grown close to another couple of meters since the last video. Thank you for watching!

@@outofdangerproject thank you for answering so fast! I have mine in a pot, grown as a bonsai, it’s about 50cm tall. The bright green is almost gone and is now brown/orange and a little bit rougher than the smooth green. I haven’t seen any of them with rainbow colors I a pot, really hope mine does soon!😊

How high can the tree grow.. I need to surround my property with windbreakers/shieldtrees and it has to grow very tall over 20-30 years - like 40m tall

Hello! I've read these can reach 75 meters tall if conditions are right. I'm not sure if it matters for your plans, but they tend to self prune, so there are usually no/few lower branches. I'd have to read some more to see how well they hold up in high winds. If you research that, be sure the information is about Eucalyptus deglupta, because they will likely have different characteristics from the other Eucalyptus species. Also note that outside of their native range I've read they tend to be significantly shorter

@@outofdangerproject Weird, some trees are tall but some are shorter...What do you think of the native Kalantas? It will grow to 30/40m very easily over 10 years.

@@Bigjoe99 Kalantas is a nice tree. Ours have grown well for the most part, but they do seem to get tree borers in the new branches. Amugis has grown well too for us. I'm not sure about their qualities for windbreaks, though. In the Philippine Native Tree Enthusiasts page there have been some recommendations for windbreaks you might research: Talisay, Molave, Malubago, Bitaog, Kamagong, Katmon, Pili, Narra, Bignay, Agoho, and Baguilumbang. That's a good facebook group you could join to get advice - if you search for "windbreak" in the group you'll see more information on those trees

If i chose not to plant all of my seeds can i store them until fall to start them in the greenhouse? If i am able to store them how can i do it safely?

I'm not sure how long they will stay viable for, but I've read they don't last too long in storage. I've read they will stay viable longer if you store them in the refrigerator, but I've never seen specific dates for how long they will last. Thank you for watching our videos!
