On August 29th, 2015, I embarked on one of the toughest journeys I've ever experienced. 100 miles through the Cascade Mountains through the worst Summer storm in the history of the Northwest. I battled my inner demons, anxiety and physical exhaustion in hopes of achieving something special amongst the evergreens.
The Cascade Crest 100 was one of the toughest physical feats I’ve ever attempted. But running 100 miles isn’t a singular effort but a cumulative effort of those surrounding the runner.

There's probably some unwritten rule about commenting on a video that's 5 years old, but seriously this is just too amazing. You had me in tears in some parts and laughing at others. You truly have a gift! Thank you for being such a real inspiration.

Totally agree with you Jeff!!! I have bipolar dissorder and the anxiety, the doubt, the shear fear of not finishing just drivers me on. That drive came from this video, making me laugh (the poop hand!) and tears tough points. A real inspriation for me and us all!

Not gonna lie - I cried. You're journey is something that resonates so deeply; your fears, insecurities, weaknesses.. the honesty. Thanks man for all the videos and the inspiration - but thanks most of all for just being real. Congrats on your first hundred! I'll be using your videos as required watching for my crews when I do my first hundred. PS - Gary is SO fucking awesome.

My high school cross country team watched this on our annual Mammoth Training Trip, on our coach's 60th Birthday! He was born and raised in Seattle and just completed the Mt. Wilson Mt.Disappointment Endurance Race, and even came in first place for his age group. This video was truly inspirational to both him and the entire team. He says congratulations and to keep up the good work! Love, Heritage Christian High School XC Team, North Hills, CA.

Wow, Ethan! Thank you for sharing this experience with us in such a powerful and moving way. Thank you for this and all you do for the running community. I am continually inspired by you!!!!!! I hope I have an opportunity to meet you and your beautiful wife someday. :) I have been a "middle of the pack" marathoner but have been putting in a ton of miles the last couple years, working hard, and this fall, I met my goal of qualifying for Boston (which I will register for and hopefully get to run in 2017)! Now that goal is met, and I am soooooo looking forward to running my first ultra!!!! Your videos inspire and encourage me every week, and this one is definitely no exception. THANK YOU!!!! Congratulations on a race well done. You got your buckle! Well deserved! :)

Probably the greatest video I've watched... Like EVER! Super Impressive Ethan and you inspired me to start my Ultra Running Career. Completing my first 50k a few weeks ago at 19 years of age, was an experience I cannot even put into words. If it was not for all of your amazing videos, I would have not decided to challenge myself and try running farther than a marathon. I've been waiting for this video since the day you ran the race and it was well worth the wait. Thank you Ethan for being an inspiration to all of us! I cannot wait to see what 2016 brings you and your wife. Cheers.

Damn it Ethan, I watched this video when you first put it out and it made me cry, laugh, smile and be inspired. Having nothing else to do(I don't have a TV)and since you stuck the link to the video right on the front of your RU-vid page I said to myself; "Self? Why not watch it again, it's been a while, we could use a little motivation?!" So I watched it again(can't lie, for like the 4th time)and again I cried, again I laughed and again I smiled. You are unique, you inspire the very best in people, never forget that.

I’m only now seeing this video for the first time and I’m at the edge of tears (I don’t cry, lol). I can so deeply relate to your fears and doubts. I’ve had a few major missed opportunities in my life that I’ve let slip away and I’ve silently beat myself up for them for too long. I’m 48 years old now and need to prove to myself that I have what it takes to conquer something very difficult like this. You are truly an inspiration and I will keep this video in my mind as I begin training!

Well done. Great video, great music and one hell of a dig man. Good job. Like I say in ultra running "that may be the hardest thing I've ever done. God willing, it will not be the hardest thing I'll ever do." Good luck going forward.

This has to be one of the most inspiring videos ever. I am slowly coming back from an injury that has sidelined me for a few months. Hopefully I'll be back running for the new year. Thanks for sharing this Ethan. I think this race may be on my to do list.

Way to go, Ginger !! I hope to ever finish watching this video, cause everytime after watching five minutes, I have to put on my runningshoes myself!
