The most impressive part is not his speed , but the way he handled the disappointment. I would be crying and blaming everything. Great lesson learned. True champion

The idea to start far ahead of course record at your first 100miler is foolish to say the least. That's like you never have done a Marathon before, run the half Marathon 5 minutes faster than Kipchoge's WR pace, and wonder that you can't stand the pace. Well, there passes the first runner, the second,... the first woman, the next runner ... and finally starting first finishes 20th. I think, he needed this humiliation to become humble.
@annaschiltz7171
@annaschiltz7171 6 месяцев назад
@@rennleitung_7 his speed or endurance wasn't really an issue, he said he missed the turn while on the highway and ran essentially an extra 4 miles. He probably could've broken the course record if he didn't get lost.
@rennleitung_7
@rennleitung_7 6 месяцев назад
@annaschiltz7171 I don't question his endurance. My take-away is, there's no price for the fastest or longest detour. I will not run a 100 miler anytime soon, but maybe a 50. In my experience exhaustion grows with distance. As they say at the beginning of the video, you have to do your homework. That means to me, I have to make sure to stay on the track even if I can't spell my name anymore. But different people have different experiences and so different take-aways.

Coming back after Jim's UTMB course record win. "You have to dream big. If you don't see yourself reaching those goals, you will never gonna do it. Whether you are a person that talks about it or doesn't talk about it, you have to believe in yourself and really have to see yourself doing those goals." So many people has the raw talent, but only a few has the determination and the courage to reach the top, what a champion's heart Jim has!

It’s pretty crazy to see his last few (four) blocks walking to the finish line at Placer HS. I literally live one street over and two years ago, I couldn’t make it up the hill walking he was going down. Now I am about to do a 5k and ran my PB since 7th grade. What an inspirational film. I feel blessed to get to live here in good ol’ Auburn. PS: my mom won the Teva cup in the 80s on horseback.

It WAS inspiring...until he took a wrong turn! And didn't win and didn't set the course record. Then it became a SAD STORY and reminded me of bad course management and terrible course markings!!! Not that that is the typical case at a "class" event such as Western States 100... Like the time I ran hard to get to my drop bag, only to find it was NOT THERE...

A fantastic film guys. Well done to Jim and his crew; good humans. If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream - and not make dreams your master, If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
