Hi 2ndhandsouls! Enjoyed very much your reaction to this song. Fun fact: the guest singer (Anneke Van Giersbergen) will be opening for Floor Jansen in her concert, on july 6 next year. She was an influence as an artist in turning Floor to heavier music. If you'd care to check out some more Amorphis music, I suggest the official music video for "The Moon", a single from their latest album "Halo", and a beautiful, beautiful song and video! Keep rockin'!

Guys, meet the great and lovely Anneke van Giersbergen. The Godmother of symphonic metal. I’ve seen her open death metal shows alone with an acoustic guitar and have the entire place in her hand.

Fun reactions guys and gals! \m/ \m/ Amorphis is one of the bands I got into in the 90s as my journey through music and especially metal started to branch out beyond U.S. and U.K. bands. Probably one of the first Finnish metal bands I got into. I don't listen to them as much as I used to, but I still "spin" this track up off the Queen of Time album, as some others have posted before me, the female vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen is worth taking a dive into if you haven't yet. She is regarded as the Dutch "god-mother" of symphonic metal. That song along with "The Way" off of the Tuonela album and "My Kantele" off Elegy as well as pretty much the whole 1993 Tales from the Thousand Lakes album, which for me, if I was making a top-25 metal albums list, would be on it. But if you twisted my arm to pick a song of that 94 LP.... "In the Beginning." Now, a lot of my fellow Amorphis fans are going to give me a hard time because they would probably choose "“Black Winter Day” or "The Castaway" edit: BTW Crissy, you mentioned getting back to Unleash the Archers, if y'all would like to see a video of the band performing live, I've got some better audio quality videos that are uploaded to RU-vid by some of their fans bookmarked. "Time Stands Still" and "Tonight We Ride" are probably the best ones as far as the audio quality.

I started checking out this band after your first reaction. I was not impressed originally, mostly due to the harsh vocals that I felt added nothing to the song but the more I listened the more I like them. I was surprised they have 14 studio albums. Their lyrics are intriguing and often based on the Kalevala, the epic poem of Finland. According to the bands renown lyricist 'Pekka Kainulainen' 'Among the Stars' is the story of man who is searching, finding & forgetting. They are Finnish, so more names Americans cannot pronounce. Sigh. One song I found particularly fascinating was "Death of a King." Stay safe, God bless, keep rocking.

Glad you stuck with them. They are, for a lot of people, a band that takes a few listens to get the feel for. When they release a new album it usually takes a few listens before I start to pick out a few songs I like, then a few more, and eventually it seems like the songs that I originally liked become my least favorite while the other songs on the album overtake them. I definitely like the era with their current singer (Joutsen) the most. I originally started listening to them in the late 90s, and their first few albums (up to and including Elegy) were some of my favorite metal albums at the time. Mostly because of how unique they sounded, even album to album, compared to the other metal I listened to at the time. I didn't care for their singer on Elegy or the albums he was in after that, but the music on Elegy was so good I didn't care about the vocals as much. I didn't find out that Tomi Joutsen joined until they were 3 albums in with him, but I loved the way their energy changed once he joined. They aren't as heavy as they were in their original albums, but they still have a sound that is uniquely 'Amorphis'.

@@ericfisher4736 Yeah, that is what I am finding. Seems their original themes was deathmetal/screaming/not easy to listen to but they have evolved into a band that has intriguing and thoughtful lyrics. Like I have said, I'm a lyrics guy but it also has to sound good. Still digging into their catalog.
@ericfisher4736
@ericfisher4736 Год назад
@@alancarter41 The early stuff is still heavily based on the Kalevala, but was written by the band and not Pekka, so it doesn't have the same feel as their later lyrics. When Tomi Joutsen joined, the first 4 albums he did with the band each focus on a different hero from the Kalevala (Kullervo, Lemminkäinen, Ilmarinen and Väinämöinen, in that order). That helped each album have a more cohesive narrative. Also, fun fact, their original singer (Tomi Koivusaari) is still in the band as one of the guitarists. His growls are deeper, but Tomi Joutsen's growls are easier to understand.

Congratulations on your million + views 🎊 🎉. There will be load’s more. I don’t know the band that well, this is also just my second time listening to them as I am discovering it with you. I most say I really like this one and it was a great surprise to see and hear Anneke van Giersbergen in there,I am a big fan of Anneke. She is considered to be the Godmother of female metal singers in the Netherlands and an influence to many, also Floor. She is in a lot of projects, like Ayreon for instance. Her latest band is called Vuur ( Dutch for Fire).

Great song and cool video. It's my favourite by them. And it's got Anneke - enough said! Another really nice melodic one by them you could try is 'Brother And Sister' (official lyric video). Has a couple of good keyboard and guitar solos too. I love the contrast between Tomi's clean and harsh vocals. I only have their last three albums, but all three are brilliant. BTW, congrats on your 1 million plus views. Keep 'em coming!

I think the song is more akin to Vampires, especially with the lyrics "Don't look up at the setting sun, or the light of dawn" and "Give in to the night".

I think these lyrics too, like so many Amorphis songs are inspired by Finnish mythology. "Path of star" could be a reference to the Milky Way (Linnunrata in Finnish, literal translation is the 'Bird's Way'). In Finnish beliefs migrating water birds are messengers of the gods that are traveling from the upper world. These birds travel between worlds via the Milky Way. Birds like geese and swans were thought to carry human souls to the otherworld. The Milky Way was seen as the heavenly version of the world river, flowing down from the upper world to the middle and lower worlds. I think that the video is about a couple that can't take that path, they try but they can't go to afterworld.

Really didn't like the vocals dude? Because Anekke van Giersbergen is a top vocalist,ex singer of the Gathering and Tomi Jutsen's both vocals clean and growls are fantastic 😊 in my opinion. Last year was new to me also 🤣 and this moment i have listened all their albums and i have buying half of them and i am not a fan of death metal but this band has melodic death metal which i loved. Give them a chance, they deserve it.

I'm not familiar with this band I'm guessing this is supposed to be vampire goth or something? I'm glad you guys are enjoying it but as an old school metal fan it's not doing much for me. But it's great to see you guys everyday. Keep up the great work and as always, God bless 🐱
@jopes4855

Vampire goth is something i count The 69 eyes for, but Amorphis is progressive- melodic- doom- death- and folklore metal, so i guess vampire goth sits there too. They take influence from old finnish folklores amongst other things, but overall i can't really put them in any box. This one was one the more melodic ones with Anneke van Giersbergen as visiting artist.

@@jopes4855 okay thanks for letting me know that. It does make a little more sense now what they were talking about. I just couldn't quite get a grip on the lyrics. Or the dead people laying on the floor. Rock on!
