AMOS - Reading Files and Manipulating Strings

In this AMOS video I look at reading CSV (Comma Separated Values) data into a program and separating out the CSV values, both manually and via an automated method, making use of the following AMOS commands:
Left$
Mid$
Instr
I finish the video off by showing how this AMOS program will take a CSV file created on an external computer, (in this case on my Mac) and separate those values too, with minimal code changes.

Great to see AMOS in 2024 ❤. I developed a commercial game within AMOS in the 90’s. These videos have inspired me to get my Amiga dusted down and AMOS fired up to update the game on its 30th anniversary :-)

@@YawningAngelRetro it was game called SwitchQuiz. Back at the time I was asked to develop a game that would interface with hardware to play an interactive quiz game for up to 4 players. It was very unique. Game made it into all the magazines but never into the shops and was mail order, which sadly was its downfall (needed hardware and software manufacturing at scale) back in the days of back room stuff it was v hard.

You explaind that really well. I've done this so often in the past it turned up in my dreams. But if anyone asked me how to do it, I would be lost for words. LOL.

Oh man☺ My memories 😊 I spend some nights with Amos. I even wrote kind of dafabase and saved records on floppy and then even wrote bubble sort (i bad 17 years and know only this algorithm) working directly on disk (becuase it was fun to watch and hear)... one sad accent is my friend on whom CDTV i done this tragically deceased few years after this nights...

I find it easier to put a comma at the begining of the whole string too, that way you don't need the qualifyer for the start of the string. (If COUNT=0)

I did think about doing that, but when dealing with CSV files from spreadsheets this won't always be possible, hence I went the way I did. 😎
