Jennifer Garner and Jessica Chastain presenting director Michael Haneke with the Oscar® for Foreign Language Film for Austria's "Amour" at the 2013 Oscars®.
Amour is one of favorite films of the decade but I personally wish “No” had won best foreign film (For me it’s one of the best political movies ever made) but I would have been okay with Amour beating Argo for best picture. How did Argo win best picture again? Lol the academy snubbed the best American film of 2012 The Master
I think the reason why Lawrence won instead of both Emmanuelle Riva and Jessica Chastain (whom I think should've won) was because not a lot of people in the academy has actually seen Amour.
Definitely. The Oscars being all American is an old story. The nominees for Best Actress that year should have been Riva, Chastain, Lawrence (all around, the fifth or fourth choice in an ideal category) , Marion Cotillard for Rust and Bone and Greta Gerwig for Frances Ha. Wallis didn't need to be nominated (and the movie is not as good as it was made out to be back then - as is the case with Silver Linings Playbook), and I love Naomi Watts, but the Impossible doesn't come close to being in the upper echelon of her work.
Yeah sure but she had a good chance since The Academy seemed to have seen the movie they gave the movie 5 Oscar nods including Best Picture and Best Director which basically doesn't happen a lot even Bafta awarded Emmanuelle Riva so idk they must be behind big politics
@@1998Cebola have you seen Barry Lyndon, Full metal jacket or clockwork Orange? Though haneke maybe a better artist Kubrick is far from a commercial director.
I love Amour and I it deserved Best Foreign Language Film!!!! However, I wouldn't have mind seeing A Royal Affair winning it as well. They were both good films!!!!!
I love this non-american artists, they are not used to Hollywood and everything it implies. He gets up, picks up the oscar, says a couple of thank you and lets his great movie speaks for itself
Kon Tiki is in English so In place of it should be The Gatekeepers from Israel and Wadjda from Saudi Arabia in place of A Royal Affair and China Heavyweights from China in place of War Witch. And War Witch should say Democratic Republic of Congo and not Canada. Also Amour should say France
I haven't seen Amour yet, but I saw Kon-Tiki and thought it was excellent. I can really recommend it if anyone is interested in watching the other nominated films.
Well, the directors of Kon Tiki have been hired to direct Pirates of the Carribean 5. I think being hired to direct the next instalment of one of the biggest franchises in the world, is some pretty nice compensation.
I always thought that this Oscar counts for the director and producers. Turns out no single individual wins this category and it goes to the nation! So if you are from Austria, you are a de facto Oscar winner! 😜
I’m assuming that nobody saw the other nominees. So I would recommend you watch No and A Royal Affair. Not Amour level but pretty good. Kin tiki is OK and war witch shouldn’t have been nominated. Intouchables (France) is so much better.
If Amour had won in the Best Picture category, would it have also won the award for Best Foreign Language Film or would the award have gone to another nominated foreign film?
Creating a separate category for "foreign" films participates in the process of selective exclusion, they really need to look beyond language and nationality to start rewarding films on the basis of merit. This film was a remarkable piece of art, and deserved best film. Haneke is so much better than a lot of mediocre filmmakers in Hollywood. His craft is so unique, and yet he is so underrated ...Sad..
@@Lalo-dh8xq Really? Would you mind sending me the links to some of those interviews, I don't think I have ever seen him speaking English on camera prior to this (and at the Golden Globe)
Should have been Amour from France (Not Austria) The Gatekeepers from Israel Wadjda from Saudi Arabia China Heavyweights from China No from Chile Winner Amour
I like how he still manages to sneak in a way of shitting on the Oscars "Without them, I wouldn't think of staying here". Great win, sad that he had to stay for the whole ceremony.
He said "Without them, I will not stay here" (he probably meant to say "I would not stand here" or "I would not be here" but his broken english didn't help). There was no "think" in the sentence though, it doesn't seem like he was shitting on the oscars at all.
