for me: 1st 6505, huge sound and tubular 2nd Diezel: lots of low end weight love it, and close 3rd the marshall really surprised how good it sounded! cuts very well can I have any of those amps? lol
The ENGL really popped ...But the Diezel and Marshall sounded great also ..... Was the Kracken a tube amp? , geez it sounded flat - almost old school SS. Meh
@@eriklamelakillingspree7690I had the Driftwood. It hissed and just had this constant static sound. I sent it back for the EVH STEALTH 100. EVH was better. Now I have the Fireball 100 and the SE FE Engl. Probably need to sell one, but I can’t. I just can’t.
The Driftwood, and the Redseven stood out in tone more than the others. They both have unique sounds that separate them from the others. Great video John 🎉. Cheers 🍻
Nobody compares these monsters better! I wish I could pick a favorite but they all bring something unique to the table. However, I know we both agree ENGL is a hard beast to best. Great video, Jon!
same that was my favorite in a tie with the Purple Nightmare. I have an Italian high gain amp the Mezzabarba MZero and that is a killer high gain amp as well. The Italians and Germans really know how to build high gain amps and high performance cars!
I wish you would include the Soldano SLO-100 in one of these videos, you are the best at dialing these amps and you'd make that thing sound like a beast!
Hooooooo boy that ENGL is a monster.. I also enjoyed the Marshall so much more than I expected to. For the price compared the the rest a DSL is looking pretty attractive!
Engl takes the win here for me. The driftwood sounded better than I expected in this comparison as well as the redseven. Not to take away from the rest. Most of them were killer. The marshall did not seem to tickle my fancy though. Definitely my least favorite from the bunch.
The Driftwood sounded pretty good to me. One of my dream Amps. Agree with you on the RedSeven! That thing sounded incredible! Not familiar with RedSeven. I'll have to look into them now.
Diezel VH2 and the Redseven were my faves! Hope to see a VHT or Fryette amp (Pittbull is my fave) added to the channel one day, I really think you'd dig them and they have something of their own character that I think could earn them a deserved place in your collection. Looking forward to the next vid 🤘
Awesome vid as always man! Would have liked to hear the Driftwood compared without the boost to keep it equal though. To me it sounded the meanest but that’s probably why. Good work!!!
Diezal and Engl- awesome beefiness Driftwood- looks and sounds amazing Red Seven- dangerously aggressive midrange crunch Peavy- Fuckin classic Victory- Darkest out of all of them by far Marshall- signature Marshall upper mid-range sizzle thing
1)Red Seven 2)Fireball 3)DSL100 4)Purple Nightmare 5)56505 6)Kraken 7)VH2 Thats my ranking score for that comparison. But in the end of the day thats all very cool sounding amplifiers. The Red Seven has a unique tone in the high end that sounds very cool🤘
With your recording approach in general, all amps sound great, which remains the case here; the rest is down to personal preference and differences in voicing. The Fireball 100 definitely brings the fires of hell to the table, leaving the Driftwood Purple Nightmare and the Victory Kraken as excellent compliments with something distinct and different. These three are my picks in this line up where one really couldn't go wrong with any of the amplifiers.
Liked before watching....😁 Wow, holy crap man!!!! They all sound tight as f$#k!!!! Diezel, Engl, Driftwood, Red Seven did the most damage, for my taste!!! Excellent video, I'm waiting for the next part.
they all sounded great, but diezel was my favourite, with fireball and red seven close seconds, while the victory let me down, Was not expecting such a good sound from the marshall, very classic.
I would go with the Driftwood. Mainly because it had the fullest sound without it being too over the top. My 2nd choice would be the Marshall DSL100 cause it has such a great tone and full sound to it.
They all really had their own subtle thing going on. I really Favored the Deizel overall tho. Engl for the nice scooped sound with solid bass. 6505 for the nice mid sound.
That Diezel sounds so WIDE compared to many of the the others, which is rarely a way I explain guitar tone! KT77 tube's extended headroom compared to EL34's perhaps???
@@SonicDriveStudio yes the bantamps are just amazing and overly loud for its lower wattage so this would really be interesting to see if there is just so much difference as anyone would expect
Woohoo what a great and fair amp comparison! I'd like me some more of that 😁 To me, the Driftwood stood out. Very surprising. The Victory could have been the winner if it wasn't so dark. Great video, great service to us tone chasers. Thanks Jon 👌
The Diezel sounds so angry, love it! That together with the 6505 and potentially the Marshall are my favourites. The Marshall got an identity that just almost hurts and 6505 simply sound very balanced for heavy music. Found the Red way too sizzly, Engl just a bit flat and boring (probably good for a mix) and the Victory sounds like it is covered in pillows.
ENGL, Red Seven, and the Marshall. Then all the rest in a bunch. In the context of this comparison, I like the Kraken the least which really surprised me.
Also for me the Engl in this serie of amps but be honest not one really impressed me that I would think lets buy one of these for the collection..but it remains very difficult to compare and everybody has a different taste. Maybe do some leads if possible . But I appreciate the work you do . great ..
This video is why my next amp will be a Fractal Axe FX III and Kemper Stage Profiler. Less space and amp sound in a nice FRFR powered cab to make recording and travel easier.
it's incredible how if you record them with the same ir they really sound 90% the same (except some like the victory kraken, which sounds significantly more boxy). I know for personal experience that in the room they do sound and feel under the fingers very different, but when recorded most those differences disappear. This channel is great, but all the video comparisons have the same problem: in the conclusions part, John never gives his opinion; it's very rare to find a video in which he says which amp is better, what are his honest thoughts and suggestions.
I honestly love them all! That's why I own them so it's hard to pick favorites. Some amps work well for certain genres of course but everybody has different preferences. With these comparisons I like to let the gear speak for itself and also let you guys decide for yourself which tone you like
Fireball. Victory. DSL. for me the rest just sounded almost the same but this 3 amp i picked personally because they have own flavor it could not be the meanest or the angriest but it has this character that it separate from others. i only own a Mesa and Randall so my pick was base on what i hear from a $300 speaker and a headphone(AirPod) lol
well i am a big engl fanboy and i play also one.and for the next Video were you compare 3 and 4 chanel amps you should try from engl the victor smolsky Signatur this little m***f*** is a beast of an amplifier
