Good review thanks, I used to run the Amplifi HD but since moving needed a replacement. Have now got this one coming to integrate into the network and hopefully get excellent coverage for the block with both stations.

@Chris Majestic - The metal garage doors are interfering with the signal, which is why you're getting poor speeds when you stand in front of them.

Good video. I'm currently running a 4 unit Eero Pro network (very big house). It's performance has been flawless but there's 1 HUGE ommision. With the currently software it doesn't record total accumulative data traffic or device level accumulative traffic on a monthly basis. With ISPs like Comcast now enforcing monthly data caps, you can't interrogate your network to find out how much data your network or each device has trafficked. Does the software for this mesh system allow you to see daily/weekly/monthly data usage at the device level?

Review is still useful in 2023. I was looking to get a new mesh system for my home and my friend kept telling me to get this. I wanted to get the bundle instead of just the router, but I would need the extra ports that the main router has on the back on the mesh point as well. I found the routers only on Amazon and I'm just going to buy 2 of those so I can get the full functionality of the system.

I was thinking about getting the Alien a while back. Even asked if you were going to do a video on it. Glad to see you did. I ended up getting a NightHawk AX8 because I needed something right away. It was a pain to get working with Xfinity modem at first but finally got it working. It's ok. Was expecting better connection for my upstairs. It is a lot better but not as much as I hoped for. Just too much wall to go through. Thinking of getting the EAX80 mesh extender to see if it helps. Mind you this is not for WiFi 6 devices. Some in my family have WiFi 6 phones but I haven't told them about it yet as they have been irritating me lately.🥴 Anyways I wonder how this Nighthawk AX8 (RAX80) compares to the Alien. Also the RAX80 + EAX80 extender vs the Alien Mesh. It'd be nice to see a comparison. Not just for WiFi 6 but performance between all standards. The regular 2.4, 5G, and WiFi6. A all around performance comparison. Probably a lit to ask but might as well as I'm just curious about it.😉

if I have 2 alien but not from mesh pack, can I still mesh them in the same network? Because I saw the original mesh pack the second one doesn’t have screen.

Hi Chris; first, I’d like to say I enjoy your videos. I’m looking to upgrade my home WIFI with these requirements - in order of importance, which product would you recommend? Whole home coverage with the best speed - 3 floors about 3,000sf Little to no gaming latency Wifi 6 - Mu-Mimo All the bells a Whistles with the app, VPN, parental control, latency control…. etc. From the research I’ve done the Netgear Orbi is the way to go, but I’m open to an alternate setup like the one you described in your video.

I still got the netgear Orbi with voice satélite mesh system with Alexa. I’m happy with it but I got a ton of devices connected. Once the price drops, I’m coming for this router with mesh

This is a great video! I also have the same wifi deadspot in front of my garage where I park my model 3. Question, can you force the satellite to only use the ethernet backhaul instead of wireless backhaul? What about clients, do they move to the close access point easily?

So if I have a combo modem/router, will a mesh system or another router still make my WiFi faster or am I limited by the main modem/router?

Any suggestions for someone who lives in a 3 level townhouse where the main Fios router/modem is 2 floors down? Looking into mesh because right now I have extenders on each floor, which only do so-so? They’re basically extenders with coax connected and PoE.

What isp do you have ? I currently have the nighthawk x6 and am currently using the orbi ac2200, but I just saw theres a new wifi 6. Amazing results from your video review. Great review. I am thinking about using this in a country home that I can only get DSL (1.5 Mb) or Amplified Cell (20 Mb). My question is, can I just connect the existing cell router to the Amplifi and put the Amplifi in bridge mode? In this way, I wouldn't be using the "routing" aspect of the Amplifi, just the WiFi transmission functionality. You do a great job on these equipment assessments! Nice review, ordered a set today. IMO the metal garage door is blocking the WIFI signal from inside the house.

Might sound a silly question (i dont know much about wifi) but is this compatible to work with Unifi UAP-C-LT and LR and Unifi controller? I dont know whether to go for this or the Dream Machine.

Great channel and review. Given the Amplifi doesn't have "dedicated backhaul" for the Mesh, does that affect performance? Or is the raw speed so great that it doesn't factor into the Alien's sensational wireless speeds? Would you say 2 Aliens are enough for a large home? What a piece of kit!

Just switched over to frontier 500/500 should I replace the router they gave me? I got over 15 devices connected to the WiFi and sometimes comments take time to load and only happens on my WiFi

I have 3 of these. One as the main router and the other 2 as extended mesh points for range. My room however is connected to the 3rd one since my room is furthest from the main router. So my question is how should I connect my Xbox through the 3rd one? Through wifi or connect it straight to it with Ethernet?

a couple questions if you dont use this as a router will it work when the internet is lost? the amplifi HDs stop working when that happens. Also will they give you all the features when its not a router?

good video but what is the comparison between the Asus ZenWiFi AX Wi-Fi 6 mesh router vs. Amplifi Alien? Ive seen some videos with the Asus that performs really well and wanted your thoughts? Also how come other suppliers like Amazon, Best Buy, etc. dont offer the Amplifi Alien and its not compared to other WiFi 6 mesh routers?

Can you set up the Alien into "Access point" (Bridge) mode (connecting it to an ISP gateway router) without having to use the Mobile app? Or can you delete the App afterwards and avoid any Vendor based privacy issues?

When you say what speeds you're getting, what is your provider advertising that you should be getting? Is your wifi set at 1GB and dropping only to 800MGs with this router? thanks!

I wish ubiquiti had an exchange program. This review has me on the fence for buying this system since I have the older mesh system. Three floors of smart TVs and phones scattered all over the house.

The router is ideal for academics and university students. If I understand things you do not have to use it as an access point unless you want to. I use my unit to send a powerful enough signal for the home computer to pick up so the internet is not always off when it starts. From your video I understand that the router can handle excessive internet stress. The best part is, for those living under the right conditions if there are bad wi - fi signals the router can make it easier for things to connect, enabling other routers to run at optimized speeds while it would otherwise have been hard or impossible for them to do during internet access limitations. Due to its usefulness for academics this means it is also ideal for graphic designers, doctors, etc.Kind regards from Ásgeir in Iceland.

OMG! You live in my old neighborhood! Anyway, I was disappointed that there was no multi-gig support. Anything coming out in 2020 should offer at least one 2.5gig or multi port bonding.

However, i can cover a large area giving good results. For example, if you have 200 speeds from the ISP, then the Amplifi router should give the same speed on wireless and wired on the client devices. It will not boost the speed above 200 as the ISP is only providing that much speed on your connection.

Great review on this router brother, thanks for testing at different distances. Is there anyway you can do a review on the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX 11000 wife 6 router. I'm trying to figure out which of these routers are better overall and the most future proof.

If you can get your hands on the Wifi 6 Orbi and Velop top of the line mesh systems it would be great to see them benchmarked against the Alien. Keep these great router videos coming!

Impressive speeds, however, what are the walls of your house made of? I'm assuming drywall and wood combo? I'd love to see the same test ran in a house built with steel reinforced concrete floors and structural columns with cinder block walls. I'm willing to bet you'd barely have 10% of those speeds or range.

I'm wondering how this thing will be performing in Europe, we've got some stricter rules about signal strength here, so normally it's range is more limited here..
