There are a few reasons why the Code would show rather than the output; the most common reason being missing percent signs to "open" you AMPscript function or code block; you see this sometimes in emails where it reads "hi there %firstname%%". It could also be the Subscriber you are previewing is causing an error in the preview. Look for a RED error box on the screen to see if this is what's happening for you.
