I used to be a Castrol guy and my dad is a Valvoline guy. We used to drink whiskey and talk smack about which is better. I’ve tried using different brands through many different vehicles in the past. Now that I’m married, my wife’s new Hyundai gets Mobile 1 full synthetic and my F150 5.0 gets whatever synthetic is on sale lol. Married life. Honestly IMHO, if you change the oil per what the auto manufacturer says, you’re good. Thanks for the video!

Ran Amsoil in my 1998 Lexus GS400 from around 160k miles to 328k miles. 25k to 30100 mile drain intervals, oil analysis each time. Was good to go. Was pushing near oxidation at 30100 miles on 0W20 Signature Series. Amsoil HDD Series 3000 5W30 did the best at 27500 miles the oil still had a TBN of 4. I ran Castrol Syntec Titanium (Black bottle) for 11k miles (5W20) before the Amsoil and it was down to TBN 2. Amsoil typically was in as good or better shape at twice the mileage. I drove the car ~35k miles a year, same drive every day. So conditions remained pretty much the same for 11 years I had the car. The longest TIME I went was 18 months (on the Amsoil HDD). I ran an Amsoil EAO26 filter on the 1UZ-FE VVTi V8 engine. I'll stick with what works. Amsoil.

I have been a Royal Purple user for nearly 20 years now. It lasts a minimum of 12k Miles or 1 year between Changes. Sure Amsoil can run for at least 24K Miles or 1 year. But their marketing is bad. They like to tell people that Royal Purple isnt a Synthetic Oil when in fact it is 100% Base IV Synthetic Oil. So.. Yeah I like them both but Royal Purple has done what it claims without smearing their true competitors and is easier to get when needed.

@@chrissimpkins7676 Well.. I had spoken to several Amsoil reps and dealers in the past who tried convincing me that RP was not a Synthetic Oil. It was several years ago now that this occured, but what they did is try to justify how RP supposedly couldnt use a PAO Base Oil in their formula because it was either too expensive for them or exclusive. I don't know if Amsoil still has people like that working for them but their logic that RP is not a true PAO Synthetic Oil was simply a lie.

I started the journey of using and analyzing synthetic oils back in 2004. At the time I had a brand new Chevy 1500 with a 5.3 and ran Mobil 1 in it. It claimed to be good for 12k mikes but I sent in a sample at 3k miles when I changed the oil, 3 times in a row, and it’s additive package was severely depleted all 3 times. So I switched to royal purple. I ran royal purple for 6k miles, sampled, changed the filter/topped off, and ran another 6k mike’s for very long time. That pushed royal purple to its limits but was acceptable. I discovered AMSOIL and put in my truck, now an 09 ram 1500, and ran it for 13 months and 14k miles with 2 quarts total used in those 13 months. I sent in a sample and to my surprise, it came back with over 50% life still left in the oil. I had already changed it though. I have repeated these results on family’s cars as well and even when used for a full year or longer, with 12 to 17k miles, there was still plenty of life left in the oil. Needless to say, I run it in everything now.

I know Amsoil is expensive but if I could get an anual oil change out of it I would. But then again I live in AZ (110° with short trips). So one year oil changes freak me out. Want to get my 95 Ram to 300,000 miles
@thehappytexan
@thehappytexan 3 года назад
@@pablochavez9087 Amsoil signature series oils, probably 10w-30 or even better, 0w-30 (immediate cold-70 degrees or less- flow), for your truck. Signature series doesn’t start to degrade from heat until you get to 300+ degrees oil temp. We live in Texas and even sitting in traffic on a 105 degree day, my oil temp with Amsoil never goes over 230 degrees. Ever! So at 230 to 250 deg, your not even tickling Amsoil. I drive short trips in my hemi powered Ram, and change it annually. Oil analysis after a full year of short trips still says it’s good to go, but like a fixed schedule. My wife drives 17-20k miles a year around the metroplex in the same 100+ degree heat. Her Amsoil gets changed every 15k miles and still tests good even then. The size of your Amsoil oil filter is important. Smaller filters can only hold so much contaminants, so they are able to go 15k miles. The larger filters can hold more, so they obviously can go longer, 25k miles. From my personal experience, I recommend you run the 0w-30 and Amsoil filter. You can even go to 0w-40 if your engine has decent wear and needs more viscosity.
@pablochavez9087
@pablochavez9087 3 года назад
Thanks for the reply. I live in the desert and hate cold weather so I don't think I need that thin oil. 95 Ram with 160,000 miles. New heads just 25 year old short block. Bigger 5.9 v8. Think 10W-30 is what I will stick too since I still have around 50 psi of oil pressure. I use Quaker State, mobil 1 filters and change out the oil every six months but when I do change it the oil only has about 3,000 miles on it. I have 2 cars. That is why I am considering annual oil changes. Was thinking of just running Royal Purple until 5,000 miles or 8 months. Whatever came first. Clean up engine for 2 or 3 oil changes and then go to Amsoil
@thehappytexan
@thehappytexan 3 года назад
@@pablochavez9087 sounds good man. If you have Oreilly parts stores, you can save some money by using a Wix filter. They are excellent for regular mileage oil changes. There really isn’t a difference between Wix and Mobile filtration wise if your changing oil every 3-5k miles. I sold parts at almost all of the major stores when I was younger, and Wix is the best off the shelf brand in my experience. The same company makes the Napa Gold filters. A Wix filter and Royal Purple is a good combo. I ran it for years. Royal Purple says you can go 14k miles on the oil with a filter change at 7k miles. I ran that maintenance schedule and decided to have the oil analyzed when I changed it one time, that’s when I found out Royal Purple won’t go that far. I tested it at 7k miles also, and it came back with a recommendation of changing the oil in another 1500 miles. So I researched oils and found Amsoil. I have tested used Amsoil out of several vehicles at mileages from 9k to 17k miles. None of the tests I have done on Amsoil samples have ever come back bad. They always say “oil still serviceable, test again in 3k miles or 100 hours”. After spending all of that money to make sure Amsoil does what it claims, I stick with one year, or 15k miles. It’s just easier that way for my family that way. The Amsoil XL line would be perfect for you. Save some money while getting the best oil. It just doesn’t have the extra additives needed for 15k-20k changes. The XL is good for 10-12k miles. Saving money is a bonus if you don’t need oil that lasts until 25k miles.
@pablochavez9087
@pablochavez9087 3 года назад
I actually used to use the Wix XP filters. I get lazy and just get the Quaker State oil and Mobil-1 filters at Walmart together. I get the $5 reward at Oreily all the time so that should cover the Wix XP filter if I pair it with Royal Purple and go 5,000 miles to clean it up. Haven't owned my Ram for more than a year. I just fixed it myself and that thing is my baby. I am gonna try the regular Royal Purple with 5,000 or 8 months oil change intervals with the Wix XP filter. I did see that Amsoil has oil besides their signature series. I don't mind paying the price for the signature series if I can get a year out of it. That is probably what I will end up doing. Just gonna try Royal Purple and clean it up with two oil changes and then just do yearly oil changes with Amsoil. From your experience, Project Farm and other stuff that I have read yearly oil changes with Amsoil with less than 10,000 miles should be NO Problem. Thanks for your input

Pursuant to a 1990’s law suit between Castrol and Mobil 1, courts ruled that group 3 and 4 base oils are synthetic, therefore any oil that contains one or both of those groups, regardless of proportions, can be called synthetic. So as long as Amsoil contains group 3, even if it’s 100% group 3, they can legally call it 100% synthetic. Thus, 100% synthetic and full synthetic are synonymous. Amsoil admitted this in one of their own blogs.

My thing is the anti rust capabilities. I'm a gun owner. Motor oil is a great lubricator for firearms. BUT unlike firearms oils, it doesnt have rust protection. But the antirust that amsoil has is amazing, and as long as I replace my bottle every year or two, it works phenomenally. For most folks, there's no need for engine oil. But if you're like me and you live in an area that annually hits -40... most gun lubricants freeze or become friction points below freezing. 0w40 stays viscous at higher temps, while keeping lubriticty down to -35. With 0w40, I can keep my gun lubricated and functional on 365/365 days a year and 360/365 nights per year. There are ZERO gun lubricants that work below -20f, and we have full weeks where day and night Temps are -20 or lower. I genuinely just want to know how royal purple compares to amsoil for anti rust. Preferably by comparing new stock, then comparing 2 year old stock.

Pour in oil additives are not recommended by any oil company as it upsets the delicate chemical balance of a motor oil, which can have unplanned and negative affects. If we had a cake recipe that called for two eggs, adding two more eggs would not improve the cake, it would ruin it. Many vehicle manufacturers specifically state in their owners manuals that pour in oil additives can void the engine warranty.

I like to call the non Synerlec API formula Royal Purple Light. The problem I see is that everyone compares this version of RP oil to Amsoil Signature Series. That's like comparing a humvee to a tank. Royal Purple Light has actually been a great oil in our Jeep's 5.7 Hemi. No ticking and it doesn't sound like crap while idling. I am actually using 5w-20 as recommended, and I live in Arizona. It's readily available and Amazon sometimes has it way cheaper than Walmart. I use Royal Purple HMX in everything else. It stopped my LS1 from making a strange tapping noise from Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum. It looks like it's stopping oil consumption issues in our beater Toyota Sienna's 3.0 V6. Amsoil is a better base stock, period. Now whether youd ever notice a difference is highly debatable, but it IS better. If Royal Purple used Amsoils base oil it would improve. Likewise, if Amsoil used Royal Purples base, their performance would decrease. Again, not to start a war on a very heated topic, it may not ever be noticed in normal driving or oil change intervals.

. Do the math. Amsoil 12$QT 6Qt-72$ 20K Fram Ultra Oil filter-10$ At 10K pay 30$ for analysis, they say go another 10K. Add 1QT makeup oil-12$ 20K miles you get another analysis for 30$. For 20,000miles you have 144$ in oil and analysis + filter. Schaeffer $6.50QT 6QT-39$ 20K Fram UltraOil filter-10$ Change at 7K 6Qt oil-39$ same filter Change at 7K miles 6qt oil 39$ Same filter Change 7K miles 6qt oil-39$ Schaeffer 127$ for 21K miles with BRAND NEW OIL EVERY 7K. AMSOIL-144$ WITH SAME OIL IN SUMP FOR 20K MILES WITH 1QT MAKEUP OIL. IT COSTS LESS TO FOLLOW MANUFACTURE RECOMMENDATIONS THAN IT DOES TO GO LONG INTERVALS WHICH VOIDS WARRANTYS AND MOST PEOPLE DONT WANT TO CHANCE LEAVING THE SAME OIL IN THE ENGINE FOR 20K WHEN I CAN RUN A QUALITY OIL CHANGE IT 3 TIMES WITH NEW FRESH OIL AND STILL SPEND LESS 👍👌🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁😎

Used Amsoil in my truck from new after the first oil change. At 37k miles the Motor took a shit. The dealer took the engine apart and it was from oil break down. I changed the oil every 5k miles. Amsoil customer service is a joke and so is their warranty! The dealer replaced the motor under warranty and told me NEVER NEVER run Amsoil it’s junk.

Sled Head that sucks man, I don’t blame you for having issues with Amsoil given the experience you had, but I will say I feel like there had to have been some other factor leading to your early engine failure. I wouldn’t expect an engine to fail that soon using any modern commercially available oil, so I’m not just trying to blindly defend them. Unfortunately there’s probably no way to prove that aside from having an independent mechanic look at it, but at the very least it’s probably a good argument to use whatever the manufacturer recommends, at least while the vehicle is under warranty.

AMSOIL solves problems the others don't.. Thousands saved in repairs (lost a radiator hose and the oil never even carboned up) and our transmission lasted twice as long although Ford had a recall failure common around 65K. I was sold on AMSOIL mainly because the smoothness as no other oil is a true synthetic. I choose to reward the American company who is honest. RP has changed hands how many times now?? And I don't think they use any synthetic at all..
@RJ-vb7gh
@RJ-vb7gh 4 года назад
@@zappatxI agree, we all want the oil that will make our cars last the longest and perhaps provide the best fuel economy. But there comes a point where all of the better "synthetic" oils are so similar in performance, (or rather that they will perform equally well) that price comes into the equation as does availability. The "synthetic oil" I use is excellent oil and far exceeds the manufacturers requirements, but I would just as much use Amsoil if availability and price were at least roughly comparable. Some of the purple products contain a bit too much zinc for me to be comfortable with it around my 4 overpriced catalytic converters, but otherwise there are at least a few oils that I would class as better than required. As far as oil goes I believe Amsoil is a fine product, if price isn't a concern and availability isn't an issue to you. As far as transmission fluid goes, if your car manufacturer has tested it and issued it an approval number, it's good to go. My particular car requires Mercon IV which has a specific Ford standard and certification. Just about every aftermarket trans fluid is Mercon certified but almost none of them are Mercon IV certified... and I don't mean "compatible" I do mean certified by Ford. Transmission fluid is pretty special stuff... if Amsoil has the appropriate manufacturers certification than by all means use it, if not... I wouldn't.

My story is practically the same. Huge RP fan. RP rocks...BUT... AMSOIL has ALWAYS BEEN and continues to be developed by the extreme oil enthusiasts who will NOT SETTLE for SECOND BEST. So I as you am switching to Amsoil full-time for all oil products, especially their filters rated at 20 MICRONS. You get what you pay for. There are three main oceans of people out there regarding the glamorous world of motor oil. The extreme enthusiasts who want to protect their engines to the extreme, the people who don't really care between best and 2nd best, and then the vast ocean who really don't care at all, and change their oil once every year or two. I change my oil religiously every 3K per the old school ways. Period. Amsoil has been sold for over 40 years. It is INCONVENIENT in HOW you have to buy Amsoil, but that is about the only negative anyone can complain about. Amsoil has gone through many competitions and tests out in the universe, and all the ones I have read and seen show that it edges out the competition, sometimes by huge margins. Otherwise if it came down to any other oil I would run Shell Rotella non synthetic due to it's zinc and phosphourus levels . I disagree with you somebody that races for a living Royal Purple oil definitely cools the temperature of your engine down game where horsepower 100% it's been proven so I don't know what kind would you use first of all it doesn't work that great on trucks it's a performance oil if you use it in cars that are supercharged or turbocharged or designed for drifting or racing it's the best oil to use specially if you have an Audi RS or an Audi S4 or an M3 it keeps the engine temperature cooler cuz they run hot game where horsepower how to use the oil filter to we run it all the time I actually in Audi mechanic We Run The hpx the Royal Purple oil and he keeps our temperature cooler I run nothing in my Audi R8 except that you're wrong 100

I want to try Amsoil and actually put the 1 year claim to the test. I've seen many reviews on people doing 15k miles or 12-13 months and I'm so far confident in it. Many have reported that lab tests show the oil can still be good even after a year as long as the filter is changed, so I have no doubt it can go as long as they claim.
@freakfiveoh
@freakfiveoh 5 лет назад
Yeah, I'm sure it can, as long as you're not driving too crazy. They have separate mileage guidance if you drive you vehicles hard, or in rough conditions.
@sasquatchcrew
@sasquatchcrew 2 года назад
My experience: 1)check your oil on a regular basis, any oil is better than no oil 2)ensure that you know or have an idea of how many miles your putting on the oil, in what conditions 3) check that oil filter after 3-5000 miles regardless. If not replace it outright 4)Using just about any synthetic, don't worry as much. I burn 1 quart every 1500-2000 miles. I've ran Castrol Edge pro up to around 18,000 before the engine started sounding different. I've ran Pennzoil Ultra to around 15,000 with 4 added quarts. I've ran regular castrol Edge to 15,000 twice with adding say like 3 quarts on a regular basis. I'm going to swap out my current Castrol/RP blend I got going on with about 6,000 miles on it for Royal Purple HPS 5w30. -Similar full synth to Castrol Magnetec, hopefully its as strong or stronger. -Royal Purples Full synthetic + Synerlec + ZDDP (if zddp works at all, we will see how this oil does) -Not too concerned with my cat converter, as Im swapping it out and the new exhaust manifold and converter are laying next to me. To be honest, it probably all makes little to no difference. However, whatever has the 'ester' technology really piques my interest. I've driven this car so long its the little things I notice. Like starting up the car after it sat for 2 months. Metal to metal contact. Lots of commutes to work. I want it for everything. The regular synthetics do a good job, but if the oil gets hot it gets thin... Excited to try this HPS.
@mistamaog
@mistamaog 2 года назад
@@sasquatchcrew So I actually managed to use it for 2 years, with 1 year oil change intervals. Had little to no oil burn, had a full amount each oil change. Although recently I kind of got screwed with the oil filter back in the winter, because their brand of oil filter wasn't in stock, so I ordered the wix filter. The filter ended up not fitting and support said that the part number is correct and that it should fit. They then just directed me to another number to contact, and I hate doing phone calls, so I eventually got a little petty and switched out. Eventually I may go back though.

I use 0w40 ultra platinum Pennzoil for my Challenger 6.4, however I have used Amsoil in other cars I've had, and I am considering switching over to Amsoil Signature at 36 thousand miles. As you know Project Farm and all the other RU-vidrs agree that Pennzoil Ultra is runner up after Amsoil, however I've been doing a bit more research and I have my eye on Ravenol, and Redline high zinc Easter based formula, but I can't find anyone that has put it up against Amsoil. On paper the Redline has more zinc, and phosphorus, and is an Easter based, while Amsoil from what I understand is group 3, wish I could find a test of Redlines Easter base, against Amsoil Signature. The RU-vidrs test the Redline that's available at the Auto parts Wich is not the Easter base formula. Like Amsoil you have to order it. Another thing I've been contemplating, be s using an additive called Bestline. I have use Ceratec before that Manny recommended when I had my Mustang, but then I discovered Bestline, and soon after STP Ceramic, because STP is available readily at the Auto Parts. I tried it,band while I don't have any scientific proof. The car actually felt faster, smoother, and my mileage went up noticeably. I was blown away. There is a RU-vidr called Bates interactive, like project farm he does similar testing,band according to his testing STP had a way smaller wear scare on the bearing, and improved the oil flow. Again lol. Wish someone would put Besline up against STP.... Project Farm did get top results with Bestline on his additive comparison. If anyone here has experience with Amsoil Signature vs Redline his ZDDP Easter based formula. Let me know Wich one is best. On paper the Redline Easter seems best, and don't need a membership, but I would like to have facts

Not personally. I’ve heard lots of people say their engines run a little quieter, especially cars with overhead cams and what not, but with my truck I think it would have to make some pretty big changes to actually notice them.

@Andrew Atm I'm on bobistheoilguy forum and Project Farm gets slammed. They say his tests are nonsense and not real world. Ask any tribologist or Certified Lubrication Specialist his tests mean absolutely nothing compared to the API and ILSAC tests.i believe they prove something to a certain extent but not to call it the "winner". Again I will say Amsoil is the winner if you wanna spend the most cash 👍

@Andrew Atm Schaeffer is a industrial grade lubricant. It's on another level compared to amsoil. Why do you think most of their lubricants go in massive farm equipment and industrial machines worldwide. Schaeffer also exceeds amsoil in yearly revenue and happens to be the oldest oil company in the USA 👍

First off I’m sick of seeing the “signature series” going against royal purples base line motor oil. It’s takes amsoils best high end oil to barley beat royal purples entry level oil. Make a fair comparison and then people should decide
