We are currently in the buyers market which has been as terrible as the rental market. Getting out-bid by thousands and thousands of euros. We need to just keep our chins up and keep trying with this. I know it's a cliché thing, but all you need is one to work out! Good luck!

I promise to upload a De Pijp video in the spring! After seeing what other creators had shared about my neighbourhood I saw most of them had filmed in the gloomy winter and I want to show it off when all the trees are thicc and luscious 😂🥰

I am so cynical of our decor so thank you so much for this compliment! We haven't done a whole lot because we are just renting but can't wait to buy and make a place our own! 😍

I am not responsible for our housing crisis. The lack of housing and the demand for housing in Amsterdam is the reason why this has happened. Instead of pinning your anger towards expats, rather focus on the way that perhaps the public transport systems need to be more reliable to encourage people to live elsewhere in the country or perhaps more homes need to be built. Perhaps companies need to be incentivized to setup outside of Amsterdam to encourage people to live in a variety of cities as opposed to just Amsterdam. I did not even qualify for the 30% ruling, along with many of my friends who I have met. Additionally, everyone else in my building is Dutch. Single women being able to afford to buy AND rent in De Pijp (How??). I couldn't do this on my salary. So your comment is unnecessary and invalid. Have a good day :)

It's dual income. I'm not alone. I am in marketing. But the lady downstairs is a journalist. The lady upstairs I don't know but she's just started her own events company. There are then two ladies living lower. I know the one is a fight attendant at KLM, but don't know what her friend does. And the family downstairs, I don't know. But they own AND have three kids.

Out of curiosity, is that what it's like in central Haarlem or are you further out? I've been looking at Haarlem to buy as well because limiting ourselves to Amsterdam is making things very very difficult. We had the highest bid on a home last week Friday but they went with a lower bid that had no conditions. 😅 Our only condition was financing within 3 weeks. 🤯

Expats living in Amsterdam can afford it, because their employers pay a huge part of the rent. So, for someone with a reasonable salary, it’s almost impossible to live in the centre of Amsterdam. Such a shame, because it’s a beautiful city, which has a lot to offer…

This is a big generalisation. I don't even have the 30% ruling. Also, every other person living in my block and the block next to me is Dutch.... Most of my neighbours are actually. We are the odd ones out.

Would you be able to afford that apartment by yourself? Unfortunately in today’s world very few people can afford to live on their own. It’s a beautiful place and hopefully it all works out for you.

@@debjh8983 Absolutely not! 🥲 But living in a 2-bedroom apartment alone would be a big waste of space. If I wasn't married then my life would be in a totally different space and I would be in something half the size, or I would be in a flat-share.

I mean, I can't convert it back to ZAR (south African rands) because I will vomit. But for a European city I think it's just "normal" 🫠

Haha hellooo! Thank you for your comment! Yes, we earn in euros but we also live in euros. Something to note with the Netherlands is that people don't come here for the salaries. They come here for the lifestyle. The average annual salary for our age group is apparently €39700 which is around R66000/€3300 monthly. We pay a lot of tax as well. Of course there are outliers in certain industries. If you have any questions I'm happy to chat on Instagram DM. 🤗
