Houseprices and free rent in Amsterdam is very expensive. But 40% rent social. That mean they pay from +- 250€ to maxium 750€ a month.

True but the waiting list for social housing is years in Amsterdam. Plus it also depends on your salary so yeah..

@@TheDistantExplorer it is long many years i think in Amsterdam good area more then 10 - 14years. And not everyone can do that. You have work there or you roots in the area of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is so nice city but ridiculous expensive!

I agree, however all major cities are expansive. That's the downside of city life I guess.

The canal houses weren't "owned by ship captains"
@DenUitvreter

The spices, always the spices. The Dutch Republic's merchants did more than half of all Euope's trade in the 17th century. Big chance that house was build on the boring bulk trade on the Baltic Sea. East Indies trade took often two years for a ship too return, so these goods were very expensive, there was also very few of them, the European trade was far bigger and more important.

The building rijksmuseum is not so old. The museumplein is closed because there was so many anti corona demonstrations every week. But that is not the official reason.
@TheDistantExplorer
@TheDistantExplorer 3 года назад
That makes sense actually. I always thought the rijksmuseum was old. I mean in contrast what is old right? I like to think anything over 150 years is considered old

Wow that's too many bicycles around! Is there even a single person in Amsterdam who doesn't know how to bike? Is it legal to park your bike anywhere? Not risky to be stolen? Thank you!
@TheDistantExplorer
@TheDistantExplorer 3 года назад
Well I think 99% know how to ride a bicycle. Its more rare to find someone who doesn't know how to ride one. You can park them anywhere you like as long as it doesn't cause any unsafe situations like in the middle of the road.
@TheDistantExplorer
@TheDistantExplorer 3 года назад
And the stolen part. Happens a lot actually that's why most of the bicycles aren't the newest
@youroneandonli81
@youroneandonli81 3 года назад
Cannot hide the fact that a bicycle plays an important role in the lives of people in Amsterdam. Or even in other parts of The Netherlands? The parking space you showed was so so so huge! It's like a whole parking space for cars.

And by the way, I read the description of your video. Always nice to read before watching. You have a good description because it really has a sensible content.

Amsterdam is, eh, 'an acquired taste'. And comment is from someone living not living in Amsterdam though does live in the Netherlands.

Not all people who speak the language did grow up in the Netherlands. Maybe don't judge a book by its cover? :) or in this case on my accent :)

Why don't you walk on the side walk like normal people, then cyclists like me wouldn't run into you :)
